My original iPhone 4S has a faulty front camera and so Apple sent me a brand new boxed replacement today. I have been comparing them both side by side and they both definitely have different Siri voices.

I am in the UK so I have the male voice and the difference between the two is very noticeable. My original Siri sounds more fluid and clear, where as my new Siri has the original more robotic tone.

I remember my original sounding like that when I first had it but then it changed to a more fluid sounding voice as described by other people on here. I can only assume the same will happen to my replacement Siri in time.

I know for sure now that there is a difference the only thing I dont understand is why does it change??

You know what? I think the voice changed too. I noticed it a few days ago. It sounds clearer and more distinct now.

since you have both, can you make a youtube video?

I considered doing it but on my point and shoot camera, as with all the other you tube videos demonstrating Siri, Im not sure you could detect it.

As an example of how prominent it is to the ear, both my partner and her daughter mentioned that they could hear it very clearly. So I sat them side by side and asked Siri the same questions on both phones. The difference was striking.

I switched to the US version of Siri (female voice) and found that it was also noticeable but less prominent. The UK male voice is much more noticeable.

Siri's voice starts its life more robotic and muffled, and then for whatever reason evolves into a clearer, more human/less robotic sounding voice after an undetermined length of time.

Im very interested to know the technicalities of this change, and wonder if its Apples cute way of making a deliberate change after a while to give the feeling that Siri has evolved, but not enough of a change to make others think there is something wrong with theirs LOL

WHY would you delete the video damnt

I would have like to have seen the OP's post as well. If I get time tonight and IF the sound quality is good enough that you can hear it I will post it to YouTube and provide the link here.

For some of you reading this you are probably thinking "yeah right", but you would be surprised at the results of being able to compare two 'identical' iPhones side by side.

my Siri's voice changed as well from when I got it two weeks ago. I also googled looking for news and found nothing. She sounds more fluid, less robotic, with a bit different tone, and she pronounces a few words differently.

It is noticeable, my girlfriend even noticed it because she liked texting me with swear words (not that mature I know) and having Siri say them. Siri would always say the word motherf weirdly, now says it normally.

My girlfriend noticed it when she tried to make it say that and it didn't do it the funny way anymore. Also she was surprised it said my last name differently. She used to pronounce it wrong. And she originally didn't believe me.

It's definitely a change for the better, but it's definitely different.

I think there must have been some sort of over the air update done by apple..
I went to add some more keyboard shortcuts today, and the way it is laid out has definitely changed.
I didn't know updates could happen unless you done a software update?

first image from google is how it used to look, second image is how it looks now!

Voice has definitely changed and not for the better that's for sure.

This has also happened with my phone and is really annoying. I know I don't like change much but this is just not acceptable. If it had 'evolved' into a more fluid voice I might be able to understand the change but it is more robotic, very tinny, almost like the difference between someone with a smooth voice and someone with a screechy voice.

This is how it should sound,

OP put your video back up as well so we can compare.

I'm confused, the videos (that haven't been deleted) sound just like my Siri has always sounded....How can Siri change without a 'update' anyway?...

check the two I posted. very different qualities in the voice.

And this is my question posted to Apple in a service request, how the hell can the thing change when I didn't authorize any updates.....

this link doesn't work, complains about malformed url.

Regarding the difference in voice, I had a 4S a week ago which was replaced on Saturday just gone. One of the first differences I noticed was the voice, it sounded more robotic to me such that I thought that the speaker of the phone wasn't working properly.

It was very strange but I never thought that the voice could have actually changed somehow.

Thanks mate, copied from page one of this thread.....which was shortened. I updated my entry and here it is again,

so....bump.

anyone come up with a fix or find any information about the loss Siri functionality accompanied by the voice change? The fact that she can't even answer a simple question like "what time is it" is incredibly disheartening.

Hi i just got a replacement iPhone 4s and Siri sounds exactly like you described. Does it sort itself out in the end or should i take it back to the Apple store?

Thanks

L

That sort of thing could get annoying if, even after a couple of years of use, Siri stilll doesn't pronounce the names correctly for people that you talk to it about every day.

It would be nice if there was some way to tell Siri how to pronounce unusual names properly. Maybe one day Apple will introduce something that tries to work out the pronunciation by listening how you say a name in your contact book and updating its output accordingly. Yet another of thousands of enhancements that's probably on Apple's to-do list.

Maybe this is the time to establish a nickname for your daughter, just make sure that you run it through Siri first so that you know that it can pronounce it. Your daughter might not be impressed though, especially if you come up with something like "snuggles" and she's 17 or similar :) .

I didn't like the way Siri pronounced my name so I told her to call me by my nickname. That was not much better, but the way she spelled it made it so funny I kept it.

My Siri's voice suddenly changed yesterday. I went from sounding just like it does in the ads to sounding much robotic. It also forgot how to pronounce my last name (it always pronounced it perfectly before but now it's completely wrong).

I even know what I was doing right before it changed: I was screwing with it. I asked it to "Open the pod bay doors" about five times. It has funny responses, a few of them, in a sequence, acting offended about me comparing it to Hal (from Kubrick's "2001" if you don't get the reference). I also switched it to UK English to hear it from a man's voice.

After it finally gave me the response I wanted, I stopped playing with it and tried to call my wife, and it pronounced our last name wrong. That's when I also noticed its speech pattern was more stilted and robotic than it had been before. It also won't play the 2001 game anymore, as it only gives me a single response (something along the lines of, "I should report you to the Artificial Assistant's Union for harassment.").

Weird and annoying.

let me guess. tweaking about with Siri addons tends to do funny stuff.

btw nice of you not to make a new thread. Post screenshots for our amusement pls.

I turned Siri off for about 4 hours, then turned it back on. Working normally again. Weird.

Edit: found this on YouTube...
