I do. I've been a Sirius subscriber for 5 years and it's worth every penny. I find that most of the people who put it down have never actually been a subscriber.

You are exactly right. I've found the people that constantly pan Sirius or XM have either had a really bad experience, feel it's too much or have never been a subscriber.

This device looks good, but I do agree that it's a bit much. Under $100 and it could sell well to existing Sirius or XM subscribers. Also, since it's XM, I wonder how much it is to add Howard 100 and 101 to it.

I've been a subscriber for almost 4 years now with 2 radios. Great for the car on road trips, which works so well almost anywhere you drive.

Who pays for radio? I've never heard of anyone doing that. Complete waste of money when the whole country is covered by FM and the majority (even the rural areas) get the 30+ DAB channels.

Either you are in Junior High School, live in a trailer park, or are just an idiot! Over 18 million people have "pay" radio. If you don't know anyone that has satelite radio, you must be a kid or you just have a lot of broke a$$ friends, family and neigbors..I hope you are a kid...I teach and none of my 6th graders heard of satelite radio ...they thought their ipod shuffles were the hottest thing in the world. They laughed at my xmp3 which costs more than twice as much and had 10 times the capabilities...lol...you keep listening to FM and AM in your little box you must live in. You don't even have an idea what sirius xm is, to compare to FM you are obviously ignorant to what SIRIUS XM offers. You can say it cost too much, but to say why have it because of FM is just dumb...

True true. He might be 13, given the "13" in his name

Just plain rude.

Oh! And condescending, too.

True, but then again its the truth.

right on the stelling whell. ?

Nice invention. What is it really?

Ever been on a trip more than 50 miles? And I don't mean in a circle. Stations come and go, then the radio needs to be re-tuned to a station that will come in clearly. Setting my iPod to my playlist allows me to drive without worrying about tuning a radio.

who drives 50 miles in a circle? I think you mean round trip, and yes, many do. Many don't do one way.
As for everything else you mentioned, I don't need to take my eyes off the road to make those changes.

Don't tell me your the type that just strairs at the road and doesn't pay attention to whats on the side (people, cars, annmials etc) or even behind you.

Whose car did you take a photo of ... or maybe I should have said which car ad did you use?

I take it you never heard of google?

Maybe in the UK, but that's not the case in the US. Don't talk about things you don't know about.

haha,.

Well the UK is known to do stupid stuff, like cause a fire at Google HQ.

DAB is free, why pay for any more than it offers?

What country do you live in? In U.S DAB is not an option that I know of. We have HD radio, which is just FM stations with better clarity and other features such as displaying artists. Still many commercials and censored by FCC For your information satelite is not just "radio" it is premium audio that offers variety and is not controlled by FCC, therefore music can have explicit language, talk shows can say whatever they want without being censored, and there are no commercials. You can travel anywhere in the country and get a signal, not controlled by your location. FM and DAB do not offer all of that. Also Sirius XM is only offered via satelite in U.s and Canada, if you live in Europe it is not an option via satelite for you and that is why you never heard of it. People pay for satelite radio for the same reason they would pay for HBO , SHOWTIME , ESPN, and all the other pay tv stations instead of just getting free television. I hope you know people that pay for pay tv...

To neiltc13 : I am new this web site. I did not realize you were from the United Kingdom. I just noticed it under your name. I apoligize if I came of rude. However, your comment seemed foolish until I realized you were not from this country. However, you can't talk about SIRIUS XM if you don't live in U.S or canada. So, there is a big reason you dont know anyone who has Satelite Radio...um....You can't get SATELITE IN UK!!!

and that sucks. kind of. They seem always uptight all the time, aside from that annoying accent.

Try driving for any extended period of time, especially through rural areas, and see how excellent that free internet radio is when you get poor cellular reception.

I commute every day and i live in a rural area, and i haven't had any problems.

XM with best of sirius package.... 16.99 a month, same price as sirius with best of XM. Personally Looking at the price of XM receivers, it actually is one of their lower priced receivers. only thing that is keeping me away is well I don't have an ipod touch yet nor will I have one until October or November. And the fact that the skydock doesn't have a DVR like function that most of the sirius receivers have. But that is a minor problem to me and I plan on switching to XM w/ best of sirius upon buying the skydock as it would make it a lot easier to move from car to car.

Even though we got my father an XM radio for his car a few years ago... and he loves it... I never thought much about getting one myself.

I live in a mountainous area with almost no AM or FM reception, and had simply gotten used to playing my own music.

Then one day I had to rent a car for a while, and it had a satellite radio. Talk about opening my eyes! No more problem with hills blocking signals!

Add in the huge choice of stations, and I'm pretty tempted.

but of course. These kids need to know that theres more to music then their hanna montana and solder boy crap. Satellite/HD radio is nice. and trust me, you will get tired of youre music fast, no matter how much you download.

We have had XM since about 2003 and have no plans to give it up. The service will end first before cancel it. Like others have said, we got it for the music that regular radio have given up on. Even with bands such as Black Sabbath, regular (terrestrial) radio treats them as if they only had 4 good songs worth playing. On XM, i've such great songs as The Writ, the Sign of the Southern Cross, the Shining and some even not so great Sabbath from the 90s, and it's commercial free!

We used to have four radios activated but over the last year with the increases, we've had to cut them down to just two and one internet sub for the iPhones. When it got up to $43 for four radios when it used to be under $30, well that's too expensive. Now it's $23 for two radios when it used to be under $20 back before the big increase several years ago. This is still one service though that I can't do without.

It's a good thing being able to drive from Denver Colorado to the west coast and not lose the radio station that I am listening too. I remember before XM came around, driving through New Mexico and there would be a few hours of no radio station to be found and all we had was CDs and they would get old. I think from Denver to L.A. the signal was only blocked three times for a few seconds due to the highest mountain peaks blocking the view of the sky. Long live XM! :)

Thank you for the pricing on that. I wasn't familiar with the monthly prices as I do annual subs for the 2 radios I have in each of our cars.

I'm hoping this works with all ipod touch models as I still have the 1st gen model here.

Nice write up. I echo those words as a Sirius subscriber. I plan to keep mine for as long as they continue to operate.

Sirius Xm

I have been an XM subscriber since 2002. Yes, there were about 8 million XM subscribers before the merger. That means XM actually had a little more subscribers than SIRIUS who had Howard Stern exclusivelly. Now all of sudden critics act like the only reason for SIRIUS XM is Howard Stern. My drives are realy enjoyable since I got XM radio. There is always something new and fresh to listen to. I listen to Hip Hop on Eminems channel, other times I listen to Oprah, on Saturdays I lisetn to Deepok Chopra. My tastes are very varied and that cant be matched by Pandora, or anyones mp3 collection. Musically, I listen to the best Dj's in the country with guest appearences by the top rappers. That can't be matches by downloading songs. Deepok Chopra talks spirtuality that is unavailalbe anywhere else, as well as Oprah having very positive talk shows. So, on one road trip, One channel says shoot kill, get tht ho's, then I switch to positive talk from Oprah with Dr Robin..I'm never bored in my car no matter what mood i'm in. I think people under 30 have more limited interest and can be happy with just listening to their same songs over and over. Or listen to the song they just dowloaded over and over. If I want music, Id rather have a professional dj select and once in a while hear something new rather than all my old "canned" songs...Not to mention I listen to sports and sports talk....

nice to know so many are easily pleased, but then again terrestrial radio always enjoyed big audiences playing the same 40 songs over and over and over and over in between 10 minute commercial breaks.

yes i have xm, just let it lapse, because of too many COMMERCIALS to be able to enjoy what very little in the way of interesting talk programming and as far as their music, there'd be only one or two i found worth listening to. i'd rather just d/l programming i like off the internet into an mp3 player and plug that into the car.

Well, any talk show will have to have commercials if not to make money, but to give the host a break. As far as downloading programming off the internet and putting on mp3 player, that is great...however, would most people want to do that everyday before they go to work? On the drive home, would the programs still be releavent? ie politics, sports, news, they change and would be old in a few hours..Sirius XM best service to me is my ability to just get in the car or listen to my device anywhere and be entertained without any effort on my part. I don't need to search for stuff to download and listen to later. No service can please everyone though...They do offer a large variety of talk shows..Im surprised you say "very little interesting" who do you consider very interesting in talk radio?

Nice post. I enjoy satellite radio for the reasons you mention. I enjoy music and originally subscribed to XM. While there has been some consolidation of the music channels under the merger, I still find much more to listen to than commercial radio, and in a wider breadth of genres. It is also nice to be on vacation in a different part of the country, or even on a long drive, and be able to get my same favorite music channels.

The only thing that can compete is Internet radio, but the playlists are often shallower (OTOH there are thousands of channels if you're willing to search), but, mainly, I can't get Internet in the car. If there were a way to reliably stream Internet to moving vehicles in all sorts of locations, sat radio may get competition, but that day isn't here yet.

So let me get this straight, this SkyDock is actually a satellite radio receiver that just uses the iPhone/iPod as the graphical interface.

So, that means:
1) You're not actually using the iPhone XM application to pull in the signal via 3G network
2) The Skydock has a built in FM transmitter, but also includes an aux cable for cars equipped with an aux input
3) Since the Skydock is a receiver, you will have to register it with XM and pay the monthly receiver cost
4) The XM Online streaming service that casts $3 a month so you can currently use to get XM on the iPhone has nothing to do with this device.

Am I accurate with the above statements, or am I misinterpreting this device?

Thanks!

All 4 of your points are correct......the ipod touch can use this dock and get full XM satelite service with the monthly fee.......the $3.00 premium internet will allow the iphone or ipod touch to get signal thru wi-fi or 3g

Hello,

I'm Brandon Matthews of Satwaves....the site that broke this story months ago....I've had the pleasure of seeing the skydock at Sirius XM's media event.

If I can answer any questions, please ask....

There is always a lot of misinformation put out there as Satellite Radio is to Radio what Metallica was to Radio in the 90's....

First I would like to direct your attention to the XM PowerConnect feature. This is an FM transmitter that works like no other. It actually uses the existing wiring of a car to transmit directly from INSIDE the radio itself....There is almost ZERO distortion of the signal...For quality of sound, there is no FM transmitter like it, and with a new patent pending there is not likely to be anything similar for a decade.

The FCC cracked down on FM Transmitters and they are very weak now and subject to interference. This new technology from XM eliminates that problem. The Dock itself has auxillary inputs for direct connections if you so choose as well.

Whether or not you ever subscribe to Satellite Radio, this is the best way to play your iTunes collection through an existing car stereo, on either your iPod Touch or iPhone.

The biggest "dig" on the apple devices has been a lack of live content. This device allows the user to add Satellite Radio to the apple device. With live Satellite Radio you get everything that Sirius XM offers with an XM subscription with the best of sirius package....that means you get CNBC, Howard Stern, NFL Football.....EVERYTHING!!...Live on your existing Apple device....Best of both worlds, all through your existing car audio system...

The app that allows the skydock to function has some pretty nice features also...Live scrolling sports scores and stock quotes for example.....if you choose...

Feel free to drop me a line at BMatthews@Satwaves.com if I failed to answer any specific questions .

I did some research, and out of 40 million ipone/ipod touch users. The ratio is close to 3:1 ipod touch. So, there are about 30 million Ipod touch users and 10 million iphone users. The significance of that is that the "pandora is a win, XM loses" is not valid. Ipod touch users have no audio options in their car , besides their playlists ,other than SIRIUS XM. Pandora or any other internet radio is not an option for Ipod touch users in their car. There are 3 times as many ipod touch users than iphone users.

I don't know where you got your research, but it's way off. In July, Apple said it had sold 45M iPhone/touch devices as of June quarter-end. Apple had sold ~26.5 iPhones since 2007, so the difference is ~18.5M iPods.

Apple just announced last week that it had sold more that 30M iPhones and 20M iPods so your 3:1 ratio for iPods:iPhones is nowhere close.

you want it you got it..

Not only is sirius giving cash back (prepaid visa card) of up to 100.00 for new subs, apparently they are offering a lot of deals if you call in. One guy posted on my forum that he called and got the skydock for 60.00. So you might want to try that...

blue tooth

but could you use the bluetooth audio on the iPhone 3GS to listen to sirus app? if your radio was bluetooth?
