You never know when/if you ever need to call 911. Remember, Skype does not allow emergency calls. Just something to think about before making the switch.

Keep a cellphone with an inactive sim handy - pretty sure they are required to still allow emergency calls, even if there is no plan.

In Atlantic Canada, at least, you don't even need to have a SIM (inactive or otherwise) in order to place 911 calls. Any GSM or 3G phone with frequencies compatible to one of the local carriers can place calls to 911, even with the SIM card removed completely.

just another thought, since its only skype on 3g on iPhone that gets charged, what about tethering laptop to iPhone and using skype on the laptop, bet that will remain free, if so thats flat out discrimination....

Something strange going on with Skype now. I used be able to make free 3G calls, thanks to the update. But now all of a sudden every number I dial Skype tells me "You need Skype Credit to call this number." This is even happening with numbers that used to work just a few days ago. What is going on?

 Maybe you need Skype credits... Making calls to phones requires credit / subscription..

?!?!?!

Guys with iOS 4.0 and Skype, are you able to "background" Skype so you can receive a skype call while not actualy in the Skype app?

Thanks!

They will need to release another update once iOS 4.0 is out. I suspect it will come out very close to the release date, but I am only speculating.
