They ("Geniuses", et al.) never want to believe that we might know something they don't.

When I backed up my 12" Macbook using single-user mode in front of them because it wouldn't boot up, I think it was pretty clear to them that knew more about Macs than they did.

So I had my GB appointment for my ASK this morning. Technically my keyboard was out of warranty and they weren't going to cover it. I had to be politely persistent with the AG and showed her the Mac Rumor story about the ASK warranty being extended to 3 years. She said "that's not our web-site and a lot of what they post is just rumor." I persisted and she finally saw someone in the back and told me that they would cover my keyboard after all. Unfortunately they don't have stock (huh?) so they have to order one and it will be 3 - 5 days then I will have to go back again to pick it up. Too bad it is a 60 km round trip to the nearest Apple Store. They really need another further east.
[doublepost=1504701097][/doublepost]I hope to be a have this luck and invoke this magic as well. My keyboard crapped out and after two phone calls and a rejection from the Apple service center to replace it, I plan to pull this one out.

Apple replaced my defective keyboard.
Was it in warranty period?

No. Specialist said it was a known problem with the keyboard.
Thanks. Would you happen to have any paperwork
Showing it was replaced outside warranty period or because of known defects? I’m having issues with Apple to get mine replaced. Thanks!

Nope :( I don't even remember if they gave me anything other than a brown box with no marks, no apple logo.

I have an ASK connected to an IPP 12.9 2nd Gen on iOS 11 b8. I've had both about a week. Yesterday the ASK started acting up. I would connect it, and I could tell the IPP knew it was there because the onscreen keyboard was absent, but when I tried to type something nothing showed up on the screen. If I disconnected the ASK the onscreen keyboard would appear. I had to turn the IPP off, then on again, to get the ASK to work. I thought it might be a beta bug and reported it to Apple, but after reading this thread, I'm starting to wonder. The ASK was an open-box purchase from Best Buy.

Interesting, I don't have an ASK but all my Bluetooth devices were acting up yesterday, ie my page flip pedal which loads as a keyboard and my Apple Pencil. Said it was connected and onscreen keyboard disappeared like it is connected but it would not work. Tried resetting, reconnecting etc and finally rebooted my ipp. Maybe something in the water yesterday, lol. Seems to be fine now.

Hi - is anyone having issues with the smart keyboard? (I have an iPP 12.9").
For the past couple of months each time I turn on the keyboard for the first time after the iPP has been in sleeping mode I get a "This device can't be connected" error message.
Usually detaching and reattaching the keyboard fixes it. Also, if I reboot the iPP the problem is fixed. Any idea?

Welcome to the club. This keyboard is a piece of ****...! Buy the Logitech

No issues since updating to beta 11.1. Was losing connection a dozen times a day up until then. They might have finally fixed the issue (and those 4 ASK's I returned probably weren't the issue - as this 5th one was having issues as well staying connected up until 11.1 was released).

I'm getting a few problems, when I check the serial (dont have the box), it just says "repairs and service coverage expired" I can't remember the date, can't prove the date as no receipt etc, can I go for an appointment with basically the keyboard and no proof? Its a 12.9" used on a 2015 iPad Pro

What will they do/ask/try? Do they replace on the day? I have a pickup appointment for an X on Fri (in UK), I was wondering, if I could take it along, and then maybe cheekily ask to give me some support? but it will just be the actual keyboard itself?

If they say, tough no receipt, and they do a serial check and no coverage, can I say theres been problems and its covered for 3 years?

Also just noticed that I dot have the £ sign on mine, whereas there is 2 options on the UK Apple site, with a US English and a British English. The £ still comes on screen if use shift+3 but would Apple argue that its not from here (I bought it 2nd hand thats all)

thanks

[doublepost=1509747668][/doublepost]I went to apple store in California in March 2017 with TWO keyboards experiencing problems described in this thread. ONE was purchased in Japan and the other in california. Only the california purchased keyboard had become unusable. At the apple store, they denied any issues existed and because I had bought it 13 months prior, that it was out of warranty. Now the Japan purchased keyboard is also malfunctioning. I was about to buy a logitech product and saw that apple has finally recognized an issue and has a 'program' to fix it ( http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/05/08/apple-offers-free-ipad-pro-smart-keybo ard-repairs-in-wake-of-functional-issues ) as long as it is within 3 years. Just 5 minutes ago I got off the phone with "nathan" a "senior manager" on the phone support. He declared that they do NOT currently have a program and that they will only deal with issues if it was within 12 months of purchase (i.e. the warranty). I highlighted the websites and this forum to them and they said that they do not acknowledge any issues. Can you believe it!?!? I'm just one guy... but my family has easily purchased 40k usd of prodcuts over the last decade or so between phones, computers, ipads, nanos, etc.... I highlighted that I'm not sure how I will react but that putting our next decade of business at risk over a 129 dollar keyboard with OBVIOUS problems seems to be a silly decision. SO this ONE guy is going to go thru a lot of inconvenience in the coming years and abandon apple products as much as I possibly can. Anyone have the logitech keyboard?

I am shocked. The technician that replaced my keyboard stress free said that it’s a well known, acknowledged problem.
Write to Tim Cook and calmly explain the issue and point to this forum if necessary. Five or six lines. Someone should contact you within days.

[doublepost=1509811403][/doublepost]Thanks. Have sent a message. Feel that I have gone way beyond normal protocol to actually help them now.... but as a shareholder, I guess its the right thing to do.

I’m becoming really frustrated with this keyboard. I have never spent so much money on an accessory in my life, but in my mind the 10.5” IPP was going to be my MacBook replacement, so I needed the keyboard and it would still be cheaper than a new MacBook. For a $150+ Keyboard, this thing has so many bugs. The typing is actually fine on it, but not being able to enter in text until you do “cmd+tab” and just the weird stuff like switching to an app and trying enter in text to a search field but needing to tap into the field first (such as calendar) just make it a frustrating and a not very “apple” like experience. i feel like the ASK has been an afterthought and as much as they promote the iPad Pro to be a laptop replacement, you’d think they would put some more effort into it.

I have 2 malfunctioning keyboards. If its still less than 1 year, you can bring it back. I’d get a refund. Its clear that the newest versions have problems and not jsut the ones that i have from 18-20 months ago. I just recieved my Logitech keyboard today. Based on your ‘replacing Laptop’ comment, i would highly recommend it. Its a bit heavier but a much more classic feel to it and sturdy. I’m a little clumsy with it at moment, but like anything new it will take a little practice.
AND i can’t tell you how good it feels to have not bought an APPLE product. It will be the first of many purchases that are NOT Apple going forward.

I just picked up the keyboard for the 10.5’ iPad Pro but am considering returning it since the one-screen keyboard is larger and fairly easy to type on. Reading about all of the issues people here are having with them long turn is helping the decision as well.

I picked up an IPP 9” after the 10.5 was introduced because it was on sale. I bought a Logitech keyboard for it because or the issues I’ve had with my 12.9 ASK. This was also after a long trip where I lugged my 15” MBP and my IPP 12.9 and I was thinking something lighter might be better for that kind of travel.

But I have to say the Logitech is so thick and heavy it kind of defeats my purposes of trying to be able to travel a bit lighter on long trips. It does at leas have a sleeve for the Pencil to be stored but the magnets on it are also pretty weak and I’m not thrilled with it. Looked like the best option at the time but so far no keyboard for any iPad has impressed me much.

I have just got a replacement for the IPP 12.9" ASK. It was a brand new one out of the box they gave me.

However when I got home and used the keyboard part doesn't stay flat on the bench/table it's getting tipped back.

It doesn't look like it can be bent back to make it go flat either. Should I take it back?
