Ok Guys,

Though this might sound silly and very rare, but it is a thought in my mind so I though let me ask you guys on what do you think about this. I plan to buy the 10.5” iPad Pro but frankly speaking after reading all the feedback of people here and checking it out myself. This iPad Pro is a finger print magnet, it just gets finger prints on it on a mere touch to hold it. This is kind of bugging me. And I strongly feel and believe the kind of experience you get using the iPad without putting any screen protector on it you don’t get it if you put one on it. So I am not willing to put any screen protector or tempered glass on it. Do you guys think any sane person on this earth would skip this year’s iPad Pro for sheer this reason, thinking that Apple might address this issue in the next year’s model. I have an iPad Air. so I am not as if that I have no iPad at all. I know it may sound silly but still is a fact.

Can you please advise people.

Thanks.

Yes but I can't be cleaning the iPad like every moment when I touch it. Like touch it, wipe it, touch it wipe it. I can't do that right ?

All of the iPad devices (and phones) retain smudges from fingers and hands.

But this year's iPad seems to be suffering from it a lot !! As I Apple has not put the finger resistant coating on it !

Latex finger cots or gloves? Surely OCD precludes a satisfactory answer.

Screen protector! I have an anker tempered glass screen protector on my pro 12.9 and 9.7 and works great. The glass feels better (IMO) than the actual screen. No smudges or scratches either. Since then, I apply the protectors on all of my devices, even if it is just for how it feels to my fingers.

Don't buy it.

I for one very strongly believe screen protectors kind of minimize the experience a little bit, which a naked screen gives you. So no I do not have any plans of putting a screen protection on it.

Not sure about the iPad Pro covers, but my iPad mini cover is lined with microfiber. When the screen gets a little smudgy, I use the inside of the cover to clean the screen.

What did you expect? You are touching a glass surface repeatedly. Sliding and swiping your finger back and forth. Up and down. It is a TOUCH device. You will never be able to avoid getting fingerprints & smudges on it. My advice is to not focus on smudges or fingerprints, and focus on using the ipad how it was intended. You really will drive yourself nuts if you don't. Other than that, i have learned to live with the smudges & fingerprints. And if they get too bad, i just wipe my ipad down with a cloth. Real simple.

This problem seems to have come into existence only from the last year's iPad Pro 2016, the earlier iPads were not all that bad. Apple's finger print resistant coating is not doing anything on these iPad Pro's.

The 2017 iPad doesn't have the same coating as the iPad Pros (or the Air 2) and so it doesn't show fingerprints as badly as the others.

When I had my Air 2 I thought THAT was crazy (compared to my iPad 4) but sweet fancy Moses! The 12.9 iPad Pro is worse!

Some of the people here are being incredibly sarcastic and unrealistic. I agree with you OP. I love my iPad Pro 10.5 but while I’m sure all iOS devices retain the smudges, the iPad Pro makes them so unbelievably visible the device just looks so dirty! It’s the first Apple device I’ve had where I wipe down the screen daily. My last iPad was an iPad Air and my phone a 6s plus, neither are like this.

So yes I agree with OP, It’s annoying, but certainly not a deal breaker for me, I love this tablet. The experience is just incredible, I can live with having to wipe down my screen once a day for this thing.

I moved from an iPad Air 2 (I think) to an iPad Pro 10.5". Fingerprints are a lot more visible and annoying. I wish they were not, but it is still very much worth the move. It is a great iPad. The fingerprint issue is the only drawback I have found. I just wipe it often.

I for one very strongly believe screen protectors kind of minimize the experience a little bit, which a naked screen gives you. So no I do not have any plans of putting a screen protection on it.

I was very much of this opinion for a very long time. I have had an iPhone since the very first iPhone in 2007. I use my iPhone to play action type games, and thus losing any screen sensitivity is not an option or it will ruin the gaming experience. So I never got a screen protector.

Then about 6 months ago I was at a Zagg kiosk in the local mall looking at an iPad Pro keyboard case, and the salesperson noticed I did not have a screen protector on my iPhone 7. He asked why, and I told him. He claimed that would not be an issue with the Zagg screen protector, and showed me his iPhone 7 with the Zagg tempered glass screen protector. He offered to load any game I wanted from the App Store onto his phone for me to check out, and I took him up on his offer. So I tried using his phone for a few minutes, and he was indeed correct. It felt like there was no difference at all.

So my point of this story is that the new tempered glass screen protectors, at least the better quality ones, are good enough that you cannot even tell they are there. The screen is just as sensitive as without. I ended up buying the Zagg Luxe screen protector and I still have it on my phone. I game for at least 1-2 hours per day, and have no issues. Plus, it does cut down on fingerprints significantly. That said, I don't have one for my iPad Pro as the fingerprints don't really bother me very much. My main reason for getting the protector for my iPhone was to protect the screen against scratches and/or drops.

I always wiped my devices on a daily basis, and after a year I think the microfiber cloths for gadgets aren't effective anymore. These microfiber cloths need to be washed after a while, and after a year I started to notice that using them dry or moisted wasn't removing the smudges as they once did, or maybe the coating was worn out.

And if we do this often (and I noticed this after a year with my Pro 9.7) the naked screen will be more worn out than what we remembered in the first month or so, and perhaps the smudges won't be wiped and remain there, even if it's just a little. I believe fine scratches will appear, even though we don't see them while looking at the screen turned off and against the light.

Maybe if we really examine it carefully. It seems that even though the microfiber cloths for gadgets don't harm the iPAD screen, it does exactly that on a microscopic level OVER TIME.

At 2m20s you can see how
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscose

Would look like if magnified 200 times. Cotton at 2m30s, wool at 2m40s and finally microfiber at 2m49s. The first 3 mentioned will scratch the eyeglasses lenses, since their material is not nice to it. We won't notice it at first, but after a year or two, just like it happens with the iPAD, the fine scratches may become evident.

Micro-fiber cloths are usually made of a combination of nylon and polyester, extremely small fibers of that material. They are the best material we can use to clean anything prone to scratches, and is said the cloth itself is almost guaranteed not to scratch. Of course if there is any sort of dirt or debris that gets caught in the fibers, that dirt or debris can still scratch. This is also said about the tip of the Apple Pencil (that also need to be replaced after a while).

In that Youtube video a woman says at 3 minutes that cleans her eyeglasses 8-10 times a day with the microfiber cloth. And at 3m10s it is said the dirt in the dry cloth scratched the lens (we should never clean eyeglasses with any cloth dry - it's required to wash the lenses in water FIRST, and do the procedure described here). Also: never rub hard, only gently.

In the case of iPAD, using water and ph-neutral liquid is out of the question. I only use a drop of water in the cloth to clean some parts of the screen that will remain there if I apply it in a dry state.

My advice is to continue with the microfiber cloths (suited for the iPAD), just don't overuse them. Only when necessary. And "bias lighting" might help with not noticing too often the iPAD has smudges.

As for screen protectors, I also share the opinion they impair our experience and technological improvements from newer models.

Yes, it is an iPad, with a "TOUCH SCREEN" You "TOUCH" you leave a fingerprint. You are OCD, and NO TABLET, will ever give your mind peace, stick with a laptop, unless you are a germophobe, because keyboards are NASTY!
