Is owc the best for buying Mac ram upgrades? They sell the 16gb upgrade for 115.

Or is buying from crucial a better deal? I want to make sure the ram works 100% when I buy it.

Replacing the Stock drive with a 60GB or 120GB OWC Mercury Pro and connecting to 3 x Lacie 2Big Thunderbolt Drives (chained RAID).

Ordering for 2 Workstations

I have never had a problem buying RAM for Macs from OWC.

@RaceTripper, once you receive your stuff, please let us know if the upgrades you bought from OWC work. Thanks!

Why, do you expect it not to work for some reason? There is no reason it shouldn't. My MacBook Pro uses RAM and SSD from OWC. I've never had a problem with them.

I already have one two Minis (2007 and 2011 models) and dammit now I'm looking for an excuse to get a 3rd one. But right now I don't see any reason to replace my current mini server.

But I'll probably wind up with a MBA to replace my aging Macbook Pro.

I was originally planning the imac, but this mac mini might be a better deal.(Also since they say that you cannot upgrade ram in Imac yourself it would be very costly. Also the Imac processor is not as good as mac mini.

The kind of stuff I will use the mac mini for would be audio stuff (recording) and some video stuff.

I was thinking of the mac mini with the 2.6GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 option, still thinking about 1TB Fusion Drive option (i am first trying to understand what it actually is and if its worth it), and of course i will have to buy an apple keyboard and mouse. I can still use my existing monitor.

I would like to get the maximum RAM as possible which is 16 gig, but the apple price is very high. Would I be able to buy my own and put it in easily, like in a regular pc?

Also, does anyone get the apple care policy for 150? I have had two old macbooks and never had a problem, so I was thinking of not getting apple care.

These are all tough choices. When it gets like this this my mind freezes and I don't buy anything. LIMB

fusion drive is a combo 128gb ssd and 1tb hdd blended with software to act as one drive.

if it works well it would be good. I have used the tech with some diy pc builds.

I would not pay 250 to order it . why be apples beta tester?

you have 365 days to buy apple care don't rush to buy it now.

Wow, can I have a job please?

That is a nice setup.

I'm seriously thinking about picking up the server with the 2.6 and making it a Handbrake encoding/media server monster. Very tempting.

Why not get the non server. It is 200 less.

I go for this setup:
Current Radeon Mini with 16Gb Corsair Mac ram
New i7 2.6 BTO mini again with 16Gb Corsair RAM
Going to put a Samsung 830 256Gb in both in the empty space, together with the built in HDD.
I tie them both to a NEC PA301W screen with built in KVM switch and 24P display. The Radeon runs Snow Leopard with Sketchup and a few games, the 2.6 processes my D800 raws and movies on Mountain.
Wacom Large and DAS keyboard (a Mini needs black cables and peripherals I think, so the Apple stuff looks shît on it) are shared by the NEC to both machines.
I take one home for continuing work late with a crying baby in the back.

So in a way I use spaces, but between 2 macs and by using the NEC input selector button.

Ordered the midrange Mini with the 2.6Ghz option tonight. Grad student discount saved me $30... nothing to write home about. I also ordered an OWC second drive kit - I'm also hoping it's the same as the 2011 model in that respect!

Now I just gotta wait for a good SSD deal to roll on by. Newegg has the Samsung 830 256 for 169 - wonder if it'll drop any lower since the 840 is due out very soon.

Also keeping an eye out for a 16GB ram deal - Newegg just had one the other day :(

Will be ordering the 2.3GHz Quad i7 server model. I know its cheaper to get the mid and add the second drive, but its a pain in the backside trying to find this damn second HDD cable in the UK, so may just go with the server version instead.

Just purchased my 8GB RAM for the system, comtemplating whether I need a SSD or not just yet, considering it will be mainly used as a headless server with plex, a few other tools, and some video rendering/encoding etc. Not sure if I will see the benefits of a SSD.....

Ordered the base-model yesterday, and got confirmation that it shipped today! :D Hopefully i'll have it before friday!! I'm really excited. Also will upgrade to 8 GB ram as soon as I receive it.

I was going to, but I'm now seriously considering updating my Mid2010 Mini:
- 8GB of RAM (Can it handle 16GB?)
- Swap ODD for SSD.
- Upgrade HDD to a 1TB drive.

I'll be more than pleased with just this €200 upgrade I think.

I ordered the baseline model. I'll upgrade the RAM myself to 8GB.
It will be used as a server. Too bad changing the HDD is a bit tough, I'm guessing it will definitely void the warranty?

It will be delivered tomorrow.

I've also ordered the base model and will upgrade the RAM to 8GB if I need it.

The HDD is not listed as user serviceable so it would/could void the warranty.

Bummer, that's alright most of my data is on my NAS storage server. I'm just using it as a general purpose server (multimedia, virtual machines etc).

just ordered my MacMini
- 2,3 I7
- 256 SSD
--> 990€ (Edu)

Wireless Trackpad and Keyboard already at hand :)
Monitor: hardware calibrated NEC PA241W
Data Storage: QNAP NAS via Gigabit Ethernet

Hope that machine fulfills my needs for mainly:
- Office, Web
- Photo editing with lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6

Estimated Delivery: 7th-9th November

which RAM can you recommend?? Want 16GB

Hi All,

Im new to the world of mac and have just ordered the new 2.5Ghz i5 mac mini.

The only thing I plan to do is upgrade the ram. Im looking at the 16gb crucial memory for £60. Would this be a good bet price and performance wise?

Thanks for any info and appologies in advance for my n00b like mac questions. Be gentle
