If I’m understanding correctly, this means that since the phone will be more break resistant, it will be less scratch resistant. Is that correct and therefore would need a screen protector more to provide that scratch protection?

As far as I understand, more break resistant results in more scratch-able.

I already spoke with a local Zagg business owner and he said they'll have screens out in time for launch next week. Will have one set aside for me. My phones get a case and protector as soon as they come out of the box, which I've never had to replace an iphone screen and why they sell for top dollar a year or two later.
Even if it's just one of those knockoffs you can buy for ten bucks for a pack of three, like what is protecting my current temporary SE 2020, it's silly not to get a screen protector. I tend to replace them every three months and it's surprising how scratched up screens get through normal use, and how beautiful a pristine piece of glass looks on that Apple display.

I use the glass ones because I have broken several screens and shattered mine on vacation once. I rarely drop my phone but the few times I have with a glass protector, the protector took the impact and broke, saving the screen.

For both my phones (11 and XS Max), the highly glossy reflective glass gets in the way so I put the Belkin Anti glare screens on top and it makes a huge difference.

Wished that the new 12 would have the Nano glass that the iMacs have as an option...

Haven’t used a screen protector since about the iPhone 6... No problems for me, or my wife and she is more high risk because the phone goes in her bag with loose stuff on a regular basis.

Shatter resistance is inversely proportional to scratch resistance. Tensile strength vs hardness. I’ll guess the screen is more scratch-prone than before.

i’ll wait until someone actually tries to scratch it to see if it’s more prone to scratch then before. But now, I don’t know who to believe. Unless you are an expert in this field weigh-in. Yeah if not, then I will not believe anybody on this thread.🤪🤪

It is impossible for the screen to be scratch proof and shatter proof at the same time. One or the other aspect will be the dominate factor.

I have always used a screenprotector since the iPhone 6 Plus and will keep doing that. I had a Belkin one now (45 euro’s), but still they get lose after a few months.

That said, I bought an Amazon screenprotector now. Two for 15 euro’s. I know they might not be of Belkin quality, but we’ll see. If it sucks, I’ll go to an APR and put a Belkin on it. I mean, it’s only 15 bucks. For that amount of money, you could try. I had a lot of cheapie screenprotectors that held up better than the Belkin.

But... what if it doesn't? Will Zack blow up on camera?

There is no what if it doesn't, magic doesn't exist even with Apple. Laws of physics are laws of physics and unless you're using real sapphire the glass will scratch at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7.

Also nowadays shatter resistance (which is what Apple was specifically talking about with this new screen) usually means a more scratch prone glass not less (that's why some older iPhones seem to be more scratch resistant than some of the newer ones). That's also why they don't use sapphire (along with the added cost), because sapphire is very brittle.

A screenprotector is way more annoying to me, than a few micro scratches that i only notice when i'm trying to...

How do you guys "NOT" us e ascreen protector? I can scratch my phone just by putting my keys on the same pocket as my iphone lol
