So does your mac work?

You always hear about the problems with peoples macs and such and I know this is because people tend to be very loud about the negatives. So lets get some perspective who has gotten faulty macs strait out of the box.

My 15 inch PowerBook is now two years old. When I first got it, it had the problem with the backlight being pinched and had bright spots. Apple over nighted me a box, over nighted it down to a facility in Texas, and two days later over nighted back to me fixed, I was without it for a total of 72 hours. They've also given me a brand new battery for free when it seemed that mine wasn't up to snuff.

Other than those two problems which Apple dealt with quickly and at no cost to me, it has been an absolutely flawless experience.

Rev. B 20" 2.0GHz iMac G5-- busted Superdrive, announced DOA, drama for 3 weeks, and then fixed.
12" 1.33GHz PB-- dead pixels, no luck.
12" 1.33GHz iBook-- squeaky around the trackpad/mouse click; but it's okay? one dead pixel now, and a weird dimple on the side of the screen (the plastic part)

I would still buy another Apple machine anyway, I can't work w/ Windows as my primary OS.

No, my Macs are all past retirement age. They hang about at home watching the soaps while I go out and work to support them...

I've had four macs, and only one ever had any hardware problems. My 1Ghz eMac had its ethernet port fail after about 6 months. Apple fixed it for free. It's worked perfectly since.

So that's and iBook 500, iMac 233, and Centris 610 that were flawless.

edit: iBook 500, 4.25 years old. World-travelled. No dead pixels.
edit2: iBook 500, after 4 years, one of the internal speakers blew out.

I've never had a problem with my PowerBook, worked fine as soon as it came out of the box. My Dad's iMac G4 runs like a dream, and we still have a 10 year old Mac running 7.5 that we turn on every once in awhile for fun.

The only Mac problem I've ever had was with my refurbed iMac (the original G3), which just seemed to slow down, and then the DVD drive starting skipping like crazy. That's really the only thing that's happened though.

I've had one Mac, a dual 2.5GHz G5 from last year, and it works well enough that I'm having problems getting motivated to buy Applecare for it...and only a few days left too....

Family computer: Rev. B 17in iMac G5 with combo. Came to me perfect and is still in great working condition.

My iMac: Rev B. 17in iMac G5 superdrive. Came to me and the first time i started it up it i got the screent o set eveything up....well...it hung on me for about 40 min. I tryed everyhting i could (short of reinstalling the OS) but no beans. So i finally called apple and they had me reintall the OS and now everything is working fine. Guess i just got a bad install of tiger.

On a techy note i thing the error i had was a bad "B node tree" or soemthing like that. I have had the iMac since middle August and everything is working fine now!!

My iBook: Got it almost the same time as iMac and it is working great since day one. The only problem i seem to be having is one that is highly talked about here .

The only thing i have done to my iMac and the iBook is intsall ram and they both seem to have this problem when using wireless internet. I now have the iMac pluggeed directly into the router but my iBook goes down sometimes every 4 hours sometime every three days. Kinda weird.

iBook G3 logic board failed twice, but that was a manufacturing problem that recalls were made.

Couple of months old iMac works, couple of more months iBook works, 8 year old Performa still works, except we no longer own it.

Performa 5200 & Beige G3 300MHz: Worked out of the box as far as I can remember. The G3 is still working, the Performa's screen died a few years ago

G3 iMac (slot loading): Worked fine out of the box and haven't had a problem since

G3 iBook: Again, worked fine out of the box. The battery can only last about 30mins now from full charge, browsing the internet with IE on OS9.2.1

Dual 867MHz G4: Worked fine out of the box, but Photoshop 5 + Dual processors + OS9 = corrupted HD. Within about 3 months, we had to reformat. Recently, we put a second HD in (160Gb), maxed out the RAM and installed Tiger (best move yet ) - it runs better than it ever did

G4 PowerBook 1.5GHz (August 2005 model): Worked fine out of the box, despite the Apple Store not installing the extra RAM we ordered. After a couple of hours of haggling with the store manager (we were about 2 hours drive and a £2 toll away from the store, and didn't fancy driving the PB back down there to get the extra RAM installed), an Apple Tech came to our house and installed the chip of RAM. It's worked great ever since Only problem is the battery doesn't do that good a job of holding its charge...

Oh yeah, one other thing that went wrong on the G4:

Somehow (probably by being kicked), the mains lead fell out of the back while the computer was asleep. It didn't like this and refused to boot up. The power light came on, but only for as long as you pressed the button. A quick call to Apple Tech Support (based in Ireland), and a quick press of the 'Reset PMU' button (after a lengthy search ) resulted in one working G4, and a credit card with a £35 dent in it

Also, we had a dodgy chip of RAM recently, that was labelled as a 512Mb chip, but the G4 only recognised it as a 256Mb - that was fixed with a replacement chip.

all of my macs, multiple G3 iMacs, the G4 iMac, my powerbook, and any other mac in the family (a LOT) all woek perfectly, never any flaws or defects i sure hope i'll be able to say the same about my new iMac G5

G4 dual 450, iMac G3 400, 15" TiPB, 17"ALPB, 12"ALPB, dual 2.5 G5 ... All are still running strong.

In the G4 PM my SCSI drive died after two years of hauling it to live gigs (sometimes in the desert). No other problems.

I've had hardware AND software problems with every single PC i've worked on or owned.

Sometimes I had to put up quite a fight to get what I wanted.. then again when Dell did me wrong all the complaining in the world didn't make them fix the situation. I will never buy a computer from them again!

I took in my Rev. A 1.25Ghz Pb and they installed the new monitor for free in the store in ~30mins. It was almost 2years old at that point so basically i saved my monitor 2 years of usage on this logic board.

iMac G3 rev B - No problems, added ram, bigger HD, my parents now use it daily.

iMac G4 800mhz - No problems, still running all the time.

Powerbook 1ghz Superdrive - No problems, still works nice as a secondary computer, going on 40 days of uptime.

iMac G5 2ghz 20" - Only had it a few months, but this is by far the greatest computer I've ever owned, no problems at all.

Performa 630CD: No Problems, whatsoever.

Power Mac 7500: Perfect. Also additional RAM and VRAM, CPU upgrade and an extra internal HD all worked just fine.

PowerBook G3 Pismo: The machine itself was perfect. But had to replace both a 3rd party RAM chip. Later a 20 GB HD I put into it proved to be defect, but I got a new one on the warranty. Neither RAM nor HD bought from Apple.

iBook G4: Arrived with a bad speaker (or possibly something wrong with the sound chip on the mother board). The iBook was replaced fairly quickly, although the phone calls to Apple took forever and some of the (many) people I spoke to should never have worked with support .

Edit: iPod mini: Perfect.

powermac G5: worked flawlessly until it was damaged by a 3rd party

overall, my experiences with apple hardware have been great

Beige G3 - Worked great for years until I started screwing with it. It never ran horribly but there was a month there where I was going software reinstalls constantly

PowerBook G4 - No issues. Loved that little guy.

LC520 (rounded grey mouse) -Perfect (purchased at same time as other mac)
Powermac G3 -Perfect, except monitor which they eventually replaced with another
Powerbook G3 (the one I'm on now) -Failing hard drive after 4.75 years. Failing battery and power adaptor after 5+ years
iMac G3 -Perfect
iMac G4 -Perfect
Powerbook G4 -Perfect
Powermac G5 -Perfect
And yeah, that's about all our macs.. (There was a couple of older ones dad had before I was born, but these are all ones I have used at some stage)

My iBook G3's logic board failed, got it fixed for free. Everything else (G4 tower, iMac G5) has worked fine so far.
