I bought one a few months ago when it became apparent it was going to be phased out.

It's great for the use to which I put it ... but oh, I'm glad we've moved on from the wheel and that interface.

I was actually thinking of stocking up on a couple of 30 pin to lightening convertors while they're still available.

The classic was the last device to use the 30 pin, right? There isn't anything else current?

Yup. Classic was the last one.

If anyone is looking for a 80Gig Classic let me know, mines will be up for sale real soon.

Called around to a bunch of Apple Stores in search of the Classic. All were out. Several stores said they sent all unsold Classics back to Apple.

I've noticed the prices have shot up on Amazon. I paid £170 (normal price) for a 160gb the day after they were "discontinued" so I'm happy. Also got an 80gb from 7 or so years ago that's still going strong.

(the screen is a perfect size for me for watching TV shows without needing my glasses on :))

Sounding Suspicious there...

next month they will update the iPod line and when they do you'll forget about the classic. hold on to your money

You can't lead with a comment like that & say "wait n see".

Hook a brother up, what do you know or that you can tell me?

Tried Walmart. None.
I'm pissed at Apple and I hope there's backlash.
They need to at least replace it with a large capacity flash player.
Did I say I'm pissed?

I can't foresee a need to bring 1000 albums with me anywhere. Throw 25-30 albums on the iPhone and be happy.

I very much doubt that. The classic is what brought vast numbers of people to the world of Apple; while the classic may - in some strange as yet unforeseen dimension - be replaceable, I doubt it will be forgotten.

Well, no, a number of us are not all that happy.

This is because some of us like to be able to carry our entire music library with us in one portable device.

And, additionally, some of us have issues - serious issues - over trust (do we trust them with all of our data), and ownership of that same data.

Let's face it. The market for digital downloads is dwindling as well with services like iTunes radio, Spotify, and Pandora.

Check your local Targets. I've found that a couple around me still have one in stock. Picked one up yesterday for $245.00. Worth checking out.

Been searching for a backup iPod classic, as I worry my current one won't last forever. Amazon is very highly priced. £314.99 is way overpriced. So I try ebay and came someone selling it for £999

Don't need to go buy a bunch up for me. I already have like 5-6 of the current generation ones I used in cars and for speaker docks, but now everything seems to have Lightning or I've replaced with iPod touches, so...

I've since gotten a Sony ZX1 and it plays all my Apple lossless media.

I am waiting for them to get harder to find and then sell my final generation version. I have touched it in like 2 years my last iPhones have been 64gb and had iTunes match and pandora. ITunes Match kind of sucks but you don't need 10k songs on your phone.

Hated the nano too. Was too tiny for my hands

I have not rushed out to get an iPod Classic. Mine still works and as long as it does, I won't need a new one, once it fails, I'll either have an iPhone that is big enough to hold my music, or I'll just do without my music. It will be on my MacBook Pro until it dies, or I get a new one.

After making numerous phone calls and checking loads of web sites I managed to find a Black Classic last one in stock at ASDA in Brighton UK - had almost given up hope :)

With the way carriers charge for data and the way streaming hiccups, these services are a far cry from having a massive library and the quickness of local access.

I am actually dissappointed in the general population; they have allowed these streaming services to become successful which will only lead to less rights and less control of the information you're paying for. The idea I have to depend on a companies server that has no promise that x video/music will be available at any time and that they can terminate my membership for any reason doesn't sit well for me. Nor does the idea of them being able to just delete what they please.

I think consumers are being foolish, this gives more control to the companies than it does the consumers. Not to mention the potential security issues, privacy issues that comes with steaming/cloud services.

Its unfortunate that many don't realize the kinds of freedoms they are giving up with these services. In fact these are the services that have essentially halted the expansion of local capacity because these hardware developers want you to pay monthly for their services to get space. If it weren't for these streaming services and cloud services I would guarentee you phones would be at 128/256 GB capacities. These cloud/streaming services are hurting advancement in technology in my opinion.

As for the classic, I am having a hard time moving from the classic to other devices. I have started to use my Note 3 with an external 64GB + Internal 64GB card for music but its cumbersome and touch interface is annoying for music having to look at it all the time.

I purchased my last iPod Classic a couple of years ago. It's 160GB and I keep it in my car's glove box where it is connected to my Kenwood CD Receiver. It is my 6th iPod. My only regret is that I didn't save the box of my first iPod; it was a thing of beauty and very much a part of the early iPod mystique.

The reasoning the masses have gone for streaming is because it's easy to pay a monthly fee. It's not easy to curate a 100GB plus iTunes library.

It's now the same with video, everyone has netflix, well that's great until they pull the series/film. (I do have Netflix but wouldn't rely on it beyond my own collection).

Streaming is great if you want to pay, consume and keep paying, like food. I believe with media it's a pay once item. However, if all you own is a phone or iPad then yes you must stream, having no access to iTunes.

They should both run side by side. I will never use Netflix as a substitute for my 500+ DVD collection, it just isn't good enough. Goodfellas and Casino are 2 examples of films that aren't on it, hardy niche films are they.

Same with streaming. There's no way I'm giving up my OCD-level constructed 95GB library - the amount of rare stuff I've got on it that doesn't exist on the itunes store or on Spotify justifies my decision every day. Let us have both.

That's true, with the introduction of a 128GB iphone Apple clearly see a market for higher capacity devices, not ones just dedicated for music only. We do have a choice in that regard, 128GB to do what you want with. (Whether it's enough is room for debate, although in time logic dictates eventually 256GB will be possible in time - iPhone 10?!).

It's a far better choice than what they are doing with photos - iPhoto and Aperture are just being killed, that's far more worrying (especially as I have around 22,000 photos in aperture!). Imagine them killing the actual database, I.e iTunes, it's a scary thought.

If you live near any of Agos's four Clearance Bargains outlets, you might be able to pick up a refurb for £140. I got one last year (was £110, then) and it was as good as new. Most seem to be ex-display from Argos branches (i.e. behind closed glass cabinets) rather than repaired units. There were both black and silver available at the Walsall branch.
