There are more and more rumours that say that only 2 of the new phones will have the new design.
So I expect one 6.1 and the 6.7 to get this and the same iPhone 11 design for the 6.1" and a scaled down version for the 5.4". I'm really disappointed... I was really eager to see a flat edge design on the size of an 8 but seems that this will never happen...

Just my thoughts, but I think the last thing I think of when upgrading to a new phone is ‘flat edges’. Seriously, I get it, but it’s not something I think I would factor personally. Just sayin.

I'm more peeved by the fact that they're yet again putting us in the situation of having to choose a small size OR the latest and greatest. I would even be happy if the smaller Pro model stayed at 5.8" but now it's getting even bigger and that' a bummer. I'd love to have all the new bells and whistles available on the smallest model possible.

Probably not going to happen. The SE2 is a budget phone, don’t fret over it.

could not agree more. I would be willing to pay flagship prices for a “small” iPhone that isn’t gimped. There has to be a large enough market that feels the same.

I prefer the size and shape of my SE, and the 5 that went before it. So I'd love to see a 5.4" that got down to near the size of the SE. One way to do that is flat sides, which also has the benefit of being more secure to hold. I used to worry about having the latest iPhone, but having being stuck with the SE as there is nothing better available, I have got used to something that is useable rather than cutting edge.

I like small phones too but it not going to happen. The new SE is a small phone again if you use a bigger one.

Totally agree, the current lineup is a complete mess. A lot of options, buying an iPhone seems like buying a car lately. Let see what happens, I hope Apple make happy the SFF fans!

True it’s a personal thing, but you also pay for the design and to be honest the round edge design is way too explored already..

Yeah I agree this is a strange choice by Apple. With the future 2020 iPhones they are forcing you to go with 6.1" or 6.7" for the Pro features. Very weird. The 6.1" model is very large. I know the 5.4" model is going to be a huge seller. But it's weird that they won't offer a Pro version of it.

On a similar note, if I want the 6.7" iPhone, I have to buy the Pro model. They won't offer a cheaper non-Pro model like they will for the 6.1" models. That really sucks too.

Honestly it's too early to say. It's very possible all four new models will have flat edges. Just that the 5.4" and 6.1" models will have aluminum sides. And the other 6.1" model and the 6.7" model will have stainless steel sides.

To be honest, I think it makes sense for them to limit the Pro models to flat edges. The Pro models should look different than the non-Pro models, beyond the camera on the back.

I can definitely imagine only the 12 Pro models coming with the new 5s inspired design, and the 12 keeping the X style design. Under screen Touch ID will also probably be an exclusive to the Pro models but that's business, ain't it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't expect under-screen Touch ID until 2021.

I hope the 5.4" iPhone has a 90 Hz or 120 Hz screen. Don't care if the resolution is closer to 720p than 1080p, as long as it has HDR and a high refresh rate, that's all I care about the OLED display. Rather not have to pay $1000 for the refresh rate.

I think 120Hz OLED would be asking too much at that sort of price point, it's still in its infancy and restricted to the very top handful of Androids. Most likely it will match the panel spec of the X and XS - dropping pixel density any lower would look awful on a PenTile display.

If it's on the $1000 iPhone, I guess I might just splurge on it because I am planning on using that device for about 2-3 years. I just hope the trade in deals being offered aren't duds. T-Mobile loves "add a line" promos to get people to add to their subscriber base. It sucks for their current customers.

Hopefully PenTile will be dropped from the OLED screens soon. It is not inherent to the technology.

all fones will get new design, the fact that they all fones are getting OLED, no sense in not making all the fones flat edges

when the flat edges is easier to make than curve

also it has always been for every iphone release that all fones are similar in design (except the 8 series/x)
but 5s/5c, 6/6plus, 6s/6splus, 7/7plus, xs/xsmax/xr, 11/11 pro/11 pro max.

difference is just in material

with 5s/5c the colors and metal back, xr/11 getting aluminum and x/xs/11 pros getting steel.

Hopefully, I guess it depends on if they can fix the blue diode lifespan issues. I know a few earlier lower density panels (480x800 resolution) were RGB because the blue diode was big enough the lifespan was considered 'good enough'. If not there's always micro LED on the horizon to look forward to!

It makes too much sense for the iPhone 12 (including the smaller 5.4”) to retain the older rounded design.

This will differentiate the newer iPhone 12 Pro phones and their redesign reminiscent to the iPhone 4/5 even more.
