Regarding battery life: first things first, tests of a single app - video playback, for example - generally don’t correlate with standard all-around usage.

Secondly, what were some people expecting? Xʀ-like battery life? 11 Pro Max-like battery life? No way. Of course it’s lower. It’s the same as every other 4.7-inch iPhone on its original version, 5 to 8 hours of Screen-on time depending on usage. If you need more, buy the iPhone 11 or Xʀ. People that report a significant improvement coming from a 6s or a 7 probably have updated devices which are 3-4 iOS versions ahead. Not comparable, at all. Therefore, in my experience, processor improvements are negligible. Why? Because iOS 13 is more power-hungry than iOS 9, and the new processor merely compensates for that.

My point is, don’t buy the SE expecting 10 hours of Screen-on time with heavy use. You’ll be disappointed. I had a 6s on iOS 9. My Xʀ on iOS 12 lasts twice as much as the 6s. There’s no comparison.

I bought this as a secondary phone, mainly for when I'm out running/hiking/outdoor activities. My daily driver is an 11 Pro Max. I love my Pro Max but it was annoying to have while working out just because it's so big/heavy.

I love the SE for what I use it for. It's so light I don't even notice it's there when I'm outdoors. It almost feels like a toy though lol

I keep it on low power mode all the time since it's not my daily driver. So far it's been working out great.

I swapped my X for the new SE and I'm very happy. It's faster and lighter! The camera technology is much better, and the only thing I miss is the telephoto lens on the X.

If you are home all the time and have access to charging, returning the phone because it needs charging makes no sense. That is akin to someone buying new clothes every week, because said person doesn’t want to take the time to clean the dirty clothes.
LOL that's what my dad said my one aunt would do.

The iPhone 8 was $449 here in the US before it was discontinued and replaced with the iPhone SE for $399. Call it an 8S if you want but bar 3D Touch (I always disabled that anyway), it's a better device for less money.

Particularly so if looking at the iPhone 8 256GB model. Iirc, that one didn't get a price drop and was simply discontinued when the 11 series was released so carriers were still selling it at previous MSRP of $699 last I checked (and I did check during the holiday sales since my 7's battery just wasn't holding up anymore).
Yea if 8+ wouldn't have been out of stock everything except privately, I would have possibly grabbed that over SE2020 since they didn't concurrently have SE2020+, but there was no reason for me to go for a regular 8 over it.

I would do low power if it didn't force lock to 30s which dims the screen way too quickly. Is there a way in settings to simulate all the other low power settings except lock time?

Exactly me. The only thing that bothers me is not being able to quick reply from lock screen w a push on the notification. Other than that it’s been great!

If you need to have 2 phones then it means the pro max is just not the phone for you or you just like to trash money in the window. You could just buy the SE and an iPad when you’re at home. For what I read, it would be a much better option for you.

Purchased a 128gb black SE (Verizon) today from walmart. Came from an iPhone 7 128gb jet black.

Zero regrets purchasing the SE. It is noticeably faster. The only thing I don't like about it is the glass black. The jet black 7 is by far my favorite iPhone I've ever had (have had every single model up to the 7).

You cannot beat walmarts deal, $249 for the 128gb. Sales taxes were only ~$17. I'm selling my 6S and 7 on swappa to cover the cost of the SE. Because prices of the old phones are still (IMO) high, this is an even trade and purchasing the SE is a wash for me.

It is a no brainer. Sell your old phone instead of trading it in, and go to walmart to get yourself a new phone.

Unless you’re on T-Mobile, then pay more for a 64gb than someone on Verizon pays for 256gb

I would say Apple made this phone for the US market with those sort of deals above, here a 128gb is $829AUD.

FYI, The carrier negotiates the pricing with Apple. That said, this phone has been slated with that $399 price point to be a global phone for other emerging markets. I can tell you right now, the iPhone SE 2 will probably be vastly more popular in China than it will be in North America. Look at the trend for phones in North America, you’re looking at displays that are 5.5 and above, very few consumers are using phones with a 4 inch display anymore.

I think the iPhone SE 2 has a place in United States, but Apple wants this phone to be successful in other countries where the pricing is absolutely ludicrous, where this phone has a chance to survive in those types of markets.

I think Asia moved to bigger smartphones more quickly than US did. I remember seeing lower cost large screen devices like the Samsung Galaxy Mega in Asia first.

The problem with the SE 2 is it's still very expensive compared to income in a lot of countries. In the US, there's a ready-made audience of iMessage users and I expect there a lot more customers willing to take the cheapest iPhone in exchange for access to Apple's ecosystem and services. That's probably not a huge factor in most countries where WhatsApp or FB Messenger may be the norm and there's not much vendor lock-in.

Not necessarily. I have the 11 Pro now, but with this deal being so great, I would totally upgrade to the SE 128 and pay off, and keep as a backup phone.

I don’t think Apple will replace it unless it’s under 80%, which would be difficult for most people to hit within a short period of time. I’ve never had apple care, but I assume it’s 2 years?

Like I said, if a person lives in a hot environment, the battery dies fast. I have a MacBook Air (2018), cycle count of about 200 for the batter, and it's about 70% capacity now. However, I live in a place where the daily high temperature almost never drop below 90f (and can get up to 120f during the summer). If a person lives in most parts of the USA, then I can't imagine the battery get drained that quickly.

Had mine a few weeks now and I’m really happy with it. Love how I can leave it in my pocket when I sit down (unlike larger phones). Also love how I can type a message one handed without doing hand gymnastics.

Battery life seems to be getting better the longer I use the phone but I have bought a £25 battery case for those times I know I’ll be away from a charger for extended periods.

Having said all that i’m curious to see what the 5.4 inch iPhone 12 looks like.

Yeah I have the 11 pro but considering using my upgrade on Verizon for the SE, then paying it off after about 1 or 2 payments since it’s so cheap.

I upgraded from a 6s. No regrets since I gave my daughter the 6s asa first phone. The only thing I hate is I can’t long hold and reply from a text on the notification screen like I used to. Sometimes it was preferable than going and logging in and having to open up messages.
This was more done in cases where I was going somewhere and was wondering when I was going to be there or replying to if I could pick something up. It was nice for quick answers not conversations. I miss having the option.
You should see if you can slide to the left on the message. On the original SE, as it has no 3D Touch or Haptic Touch, they do it that way and it gives you options to reply from the lock screen. Maybe they have it the same way on the new SE.

You can slide over. Not super convenient but it’s manageable.

I’m surprised that people who have any of the 11 phones purchased the latest SE as a replacement phone without realizing that the phone is essentially an iPhone 8 with a few updates and understanding what that meant. Apple isn’t selling a device for a $400+ price difference without compromises. To take that on as your main mobile, an 11/Pro/Pro Max owner would be giving up features and would need to be at peace with it.

Not sure why 11 (any model) owners would switch down to the SE at all given the features and newness of the current models, unless for financial or TouchID reasons, which are both perfectly valid, but again, the SE is basically a 3 year old device and Apple was going to only improve it so much with a $399 price tag. It was never meant to live up to the 11 models, probably not even the Xs/Xr models either.

There’s a place still for the SE with 6/6s/7 upgraders and TouchID fans, but it’s misplaced as a replacement for those with newer models who value their newer features.

well said I think this is often overlooked by 11 series users who have been disappointed with the battery life etc of the SE

Not without a jailbreak, unfortunately

this is the one thing I didn’t understand with the SE 2020 I had, especially if you can use Haptic Touch on the lock screen w XR/11/Pro and 3D Touch with 6s to XS On the lock screen

it must be something related to the Touch ID/security but that doesn’t make sense why with the Face ID phones you can quick reply. Maybe because Face ID checks your face?

I have had my iphone SE for a few weeks now and really like it. The biggest worry I had was its battery life compared to my 8 plus, but I have consistently been getting 2 days battery life amazingly, using it maybe slightly less than my previous phone. Love the snappiness, light and compact form factor, and one handed use. Also the camera is very good, constantly taking google pixel quality pictures (Exposure and dynamic range in particular). Me and the wife both agree that it takes better pictures on average than her galaxy s20 plus! All this for just £390, so very happy.
