Been on the iPhone 6 now for about 10 hours and finally have it the way I want it. Getting used to settings being hard to find or nestled deep within another setting (changing keyboards for instance), the lack of a back button has presented an issue in a few are apps as the page appeared to have no way to move forward or back and then figured out it was a swipe from left to right to move to the previous menu.

I have noticed the screen is brighter than both my Nexus 5 and Motorola X and almost as crisp as the 1080p Nexus 5. Almost. The phone is perfect in its size. Love it. I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

How are my fellow Android and WP users reacquanting themselves with the iPhone?

So whom else is getting used to iOS again? Toughest things to overcome.

There's a learning curve. As I mentioned in another post, I am missing some of pure android features.

But I'm glad iPhone finally made a bigger phone; it was about time.

Not having to necessarily get reacquainted with iOS as I switched back nearly full-time last November but I am getting familiar with a much larger iPhone experience on my new 6+. It's only been about 5 hours since I restored it from my 5S backup, far too soon to pass any sort of judgement but a few first impressions.

- It pretty damn big. That being said, if you've ever used a phablet sized device (I own a Note 2), is not unfamiliar or daunting in anyway. I haven't found it slippery as some reports/reviews have stated and actually find it quite comfortable to hold--the curved edges and very thin profile make it feel a bit smaller than it is. I did slip it into an Apple leather case--has a very thin profile and was a big fan of it on my 5S. But yeah, it's still pretty big.

- Screen quality seems superb. Again, no specific comparisons or detailed analysis, but the colors seem very natural, great brightness (a touch brighter than my 5S at max brightness) and very crisp. I did notice a little 'fuzziness' with a few apps that clearly haven't been optimized yet for the new resolutions but nothing jarring.

I've been using the iOS 8 betas for a while so I've become familiar with many of the changes and a large portion of my apps have already been updated for iOS 8 so kudos to developers for that. I haven't had a chance to really explore the new extensibility functionality as apps are just starting to incorporate it but I've already noticed new additions to the share option in some of my apps. Some of the functionality also isn't completely available yet or was removed from the final release (tied to Yosemite's release) but Handoffs has worked great, including the ability to read standard SMS on all my devices and take phones calls on my iPad or Mac (when it was active on the betas). Needless to say I'm excited to explore the full breadth of iOS capabilities (including Apple Pay) over the coming month or two.

I'll do a brief physical comparison to the other devices I still have (5S, HTC One (M7), Note II) in a few days in case anyone is curious to see how it measures up.

I am with you...... I wish I could access the 64Gb of storage. I wanted to send a movie to my friend but could not......Samsung phones will let me beam it to another person. How can you do this in IOS?

Just played with my wife's new iPhone 6 for a few hours, mainly to set it up to her liking. For the record, she HATED the Moto X. Mainly because of the awful camera and battery life. Maybe she got a lemon.

ANYWAY, iOS 8 on the new iPhone is fine. But there's a lot I'd miss if I ever went back. No thank you.

Not via NFC. Apple has it locked down to be used only with Apple Pay. Only way to xfer files will be via an app of some sort or maybe via BT?

How have you found the Touch ID? I was expecting a few random failures to recognize, but since this morning I haven't had a single miss. This Touch ID is really, really good.

-------------

Also, curious if anyone is using SwiftKey? I have found it to be really accurate with what I want and nearly identical to swiping on Android. Only thing I find missing is the mic key. Wish I could long hold a key in the top row for numbers too.

----------

How about Air Drop?

How about Air Drop?

I tried to use Airdrop but I could not see it as an option when in the video folders. I would try to highlight the video i wanted to see but using Airdrop was not there. Wish we had access to the file system or storage in IOS.

Neither have I but I believe that's Apple way of sharing files between devices.

TouchID has been great...very easy to use instead of a pin. I haven't tried any other keyboards yet. the builtin keyboard works great for me.

Stock keyboard was good, but the lack of swype and no period key made SwiftKey my go to keyboard. Works really well.

Gonna have to give it a go later on.

I've been using Touch ID on my 5S for about 9 months and while it was a little inconsistent early on, since iOS 7.1 it's been nearly flawless. I'm really looking forward to its integration into apps--I know 1Password and Amazon will support its use to authenticate identify rather than using a password.

I've been using Swiftkey for a couple days on my 5S and it's every bit as good as I remember on Android--even like the theme better. It's been a little wonky in that on occasion the iOS keyboard first appears when I select a text field, then reverts back to Swiftkey. Also, if you are entering text into a sensitive field like an account password, only the iOS keyboard is available, presumably as a security precausion to prevent keystroke tracking. Haven't tried yet on my 6+ as the extra screen real estate has me flying along on the stock keyboard.

I use Airdrop all the time to share quickly between my iDevice, with my kids, or with my wife, though admittedly it only to share photos/video, contact cards, or webpages. Don't think it's available to share a movie or music.

I believe You can't transfer files between phones easily, especially media... It's one of those holds that android users don't like apple for... I believe apple want you to purchase the media through iTunes... Might be wrong though unless it's changed since I last had an iPhone

I have both Android and Ios phones and tablets - Used to be an Iphone man but changed years ago. It is things like this (nfc limitation) and others restrictions that keep me from going back to Ios on my daily phone. There are many other examples that in themselves are small things but when you add them together they just drive me nuts. I don't mind it so much on a tablet but not on my phone.

Best of luck with your purchase. Have fun and let us know how you get on.

Had a gold 64gb iPhone 6 in my hand, and instantly I thought of everything I like about my S5 that I would lose.

1. Being able to share between apps with reckless abandon.

iOS is not fully supported with app extensions. Sharing between apps is still very limited.

2. Lots of widgets for glance and go.

iOS 8 has few widgets, and what is there I don't care about.

3. Water resistant.

iPhone 6 brings me back to the days of being concerned about humidity and water damage

4. Two apps at once.

iPhone 6+ especially has a very big screen limited to one task at a time. Seems like a waste.

5. File system and robust cloud storage support.

iCloud drive is still not functional and it's flexibility is still dubious. Cloud storage can't be used for anything and everything like android.

6. Ultra power saving mode. That first time you go an extra 2 hours on a 5% charge, you'll be thanking the samsung gods.

I'm confident the 6+ has a long battery life, but the iPhone 6 is concerning at this stage.

This is no way means I wouldn't be gaining quite a few things with iOS, but this is just what occurred to me while I was playing in the Apple store. iOS 8 will need at least until Christmas to get all it's apps supported with its new features, while my S5 has much of all that today.

I found Touch ID to be my favourite feature not on Android. It works really well. I have it remember 4 of my fingers on my 5S.

Also, curious if anyone is using SwiftKey? I have found it to be really accurate with what I want and nearly identical to swiping on Android. Only thing I find missing is the mic key. Wish I could long hold a key in the top row for numbers too.

I tried SwiftKey on my iPad Mini. I found it to be lacking a lot of features I am used to having on Android. The split layout is what I really need and that is not available, so I'm not using it.

I am not authorised to install iOS on my iPhone 5S yet as it is as work phone. There are some compatibility issues with something we use at work. I only have it on my iPad Mini as it is a personal device.

One of the things I would miss IF I went back to iOS is the ability to close the screen by swiping up on the homescreen. Nova Prime Launcher swipe up gesture linked to Screen Off & Lock app/Z-Shaped & Zoom Out animation.

Also Bluetooth file transfer and the ability for Android to be read as mass storage. Just the other day, my 32GB micro-SD got damaged while trying to OTG. Hundreds of videos, songs, and photos lost. Luckily, my M7 has many of my photo albums and music intact but I lost many sub-HD videos like multiple seasons of Family Guy, horse races, and NBA mixes. Some videos I've had for 9 years. Had most of my files depended solely on iPhone, I would have a tougher time to recover it all. I'm not into iCloud. I used SharePod, but it doesn't recover photos in the original size. Bluetooth transfer would be an easier fix since I don't own a laptop anymore.

I'm getting used to not having to type in my password all the time , although I which the consistency was there , for instance I have to type in my pass lock when I first switch on the device , and when I first go into iTunes after switching of the device , but that is just because I have already got used to using it a little bit , can't wait for app developers to use the APIs, wish there was a way to have all websites use Touch ID for my log in as well , it makes so much sense.

In the past on my nexus 5 I also used to turn of the screen when I was on the phone and it didn't end the call , so there have been a few times with my iPhone 6 were I have done the same and ended up ended the fall lol

Main miss of android is the back button; on Google music especially. Such a pain in the arse having to scroll right back up to the top of the back, then press the corner of the app to get back, but if I have been searching multiple artists and songs etc it takes about 7 taps to get right back to the beginng lol

But overall it's a beautiful operating system and I'm still sort of personalising it more and getting it the way I want it to be

Thank you for sharing!

The Nexus 5 is also my daily driver. I'm not in the market for any new phone right now (can't afford it and love my Nexus) but the iPhone 6 has me a little tempted.

Like you I think the size of the 4.7 inch iPhone would be perfect and I'm really frustrated with the ever increasing size of the current android flagships. Going up in size to the nexus 5 was a stretch for me and I daily encounter situations where I think to myself that even a marginally larger phone would be really inconvenient. I would also LOVE to finally have a great camera on my phone. And of course with an iPhone you don't have to worry about carriers or bloatware or support which is really important to me (That's why I have a Nexus 5).

But I prefer android especially for my phone (I have an iPad Air too).

Things I'm worried I'll miss:
Widgets - quick glanceable info like my calendar in a month view (any other view is useless to me) is very helpful. Right now I have a whole home screen dedicated to this.

Being able to manage WiFi networks easily. - thankfully apple let's you turn WiFi on and off in quick settings but to manage WiFi networks you need to open the settings app and there is no other way to get to settings (a shortcut to settings from quick settings would be useful)

The back key - I've run into situations on my iPad where I literally did not know what to do for like 30 sec because getting back to the previous screen or dismissing a dialogue box was so non obvious.

Having contacts shortcuts- the favorites implementation in iOS 8 in the multitasking screen seems messy. The main person I communicate with on a daily basis is my fiance and I like being able to unlock my phone click on a picture of his head and go.

Lack of customizations - I don't root or ROM anymore but I still appreciate customizations like launchers, custom gestures (I can turn my phone off with a swipe up from the home bottom which is super convenient), etc. At least 3rd party keyboards are OK now :)

I'll wait until my Nexus 5 dies to see if android can pull back (just a little) from the screen size madness. Hoping I can stick with android but we'll see.

When you hit the share icon in an app on the S5 you can damn near share with every app on the phone. iOS 8 still has few apps with extensions for sharing. This might change but it's still limited at this time. Very limited actually

It is they have only added about two more apps.

Personally I'm not sure if I can get used to iOS as a daily driver again. I tried in January of this year and couldn't. From what I've seen of iOS 8 so far, nothing much has changed.

#4 was pushed back to iOS 8.1. It was supposed to have been included in iOS 8 but they weren't finished with it according to 9to5 Mac.
