When you hit the share icon in an app on the S5 you can damn near share with every app on the phone. iOS 8 still has few apps with extensions for sharing. This might change but it's still limited at this time. Very limited actually

Well, it's only been 3 days since developers were allowed to release updated apps with support so this is understandable. If it's not much different in a month or two, I'd agree it's a problem.

So whom else is getting used to iOS again? Toughest things to overcome.

I now have an Health app in IOS8 that does absolutely nothing.....

There's also a ios 8 Tips app. Why do I need a dedicated Tips app on my phone? ::confused::

I tried to use Airdrop but I could not see it as an option when in the video folders. I would try to highlight the video i wanted to see but using Airdrop was not there. Wish we had access to the file system or storage in IOS.

Bloat that can't be uninstalled.

The last person who should be complaining about bloat is someone who uses a Samsung device. ;)

Of course you don't, but there are probably millions of people that could use it, the same people that aren't going to know to go find it if it's not there by default and only available on the App store.

Any stock app you won't use is bloat--every device has it and there's some on every device I've ever used. I'll agree that it would be better if Apple would allow disabling (or removal) of some of their stock apps but unfortunately they don't. That being said, if you don't need it, then just don't use it.

I think Apple removed them for security reasons. Should be released again soon.

I have both Android and Ios phones and tablets - Used to be an Iphone man but changed years ago. It is things like this (nfc limitation) and others restrictions that keep me from going back to Ios on my daily phone. There are many other examples that in themselves are small things but when you add them together they just drive me nuts. I don't mind it so much on a tablet but not on my phone.

Best of luck with your purchase. Have fun and let us know how you get on.

i kept an iphone 4s to play around, but i can't use ios (regardless of iphone model) as my daily driver. there are just too many things i have to compromise.

* access to file system - this is HUGE. this not only allows you to use phone as a portable disk drive, you can you use it any way you like on any computer. if a file is on your phone, you can share it in every conceivable way.
* auto answering calls while driving.
* auto sms reply depending on the person, time, missed calls, meetings, profile etc.
* T9 dialing, saves time, no need to look through call logs or contact list. just use the dial pad.
* password protect individual app
* encrypted messaging / file encryption
* firewall (block internet access to apps) / ad blocking
* ROOT only feature - start pc/laptop from phone

and so on.

Apple could have gone a different route. Perhaps a bookmark in safari. Nonetheless, it kinda sucks.

Now, Android does the same but there's ways of removing it.

The point I'm making is that all devices have boat. Plus in the UK we don't get all of that carrier bloat like you do in the US. The majority of the non Google pre - installed stuff can be removed or disabled.

Can the Samsung software/apps be removed (without root)?

Having contacts shortcuts- the favorites implementation in iOS 8 in the multitasking screen seems messy. The main person I communicate with on a daily basis is my fiance and I like being able to unlock my phone click on a picture of his head and go.

OHMYGOD. I had no idea you could do this. You've literally revolutionised my life.

I miss the App Drawer, honesty. The Android home screen is meant to be more for staying on what with Apps and Widgets, where as iPhone's springboard is just that: A temporary place where you go to another app.

I don't miss widgets at all, however. Most of them are completely useless to me.

No, they can't. You can just disable them. They will always be in the ROM partition.

Not true. Titanium Backup, if rooted, will uninstall and completely remove bloat.

EDIT: Not 100% sure on TW, but I believe you can still completely remove it. Again, only if rooted.

Yes you can get rid of EVERYTHING with TB, even Touchwiz.

Yeah this feature is just awesome. You make a shortcut (it's really a widget) of any contact, and specifically any number you have for that contact. You now have an icon of their contact picture on your desktop. You just tap it once and it dials the number, no more opening the phone app and scrolling through contacts or favorites. You can do the same with text messages.

Widgets are so extraordinary, nothing iOS has can come close to competing with them. The amount of instant and live information you can have at a glance is amazing.

I think you can disable them and they will not show in the app drawer anymore.
No root needed.....

Pretty sure there is no bloat on my Windows phone....:p

Update included AT&T apps.... but easily deleted. Only thing on there is what I want on there.

Yep, WP can delete any app easily and can move apps direct to the SD card (if the phone has one.) There are some things Microsoft does that no one else matches.

I'm aware of that, but for those looking to make the change this weekend, they should be aware that many of iOS 8's nifty new features aren't even supported by the majority of big apps.

Going to be awhile.

I'm personally fence sitting until October or November partially for this reason. Once Yosemite goes live I'll probably make the change.

This is what we like to call 'fragmentation' issues. ;) Or Apples teething pains.

I think something like All In One Gestures and any swipe gesture apps might still be a bit foreign to Android users. It's like blind iSheep fans who don't really NEED wireless charging. How could they miss or need it if they never experienced it in the first place? How come you can have a conclusion that you never even tried before? It is like trying to describe color to a person who was born blind.

I would love these features to be standard to all smartphone users -

VOCC fast charging that is found on Oppo Find 7a. If we don't get lithium sulphur batteries just yet, at least fasten the charge times under 1 hr and increase capacity on the LiPo and Li-ions.

Wireless charging option

Double tap wake screen feature thanks to LG. Basically more swipe gestures to turn off and on screen for less wearing out physical buttons.

Dual front STEREO speakers thanks to HTC. It doesn't need grills as seen with the Sony Xperia Z2 and its successors.

Some element-resistance.
