Hang on what's a 11" pro going to do for me that I can't do on a 9th gen iPad?
$1199AUD v $479. $720 diff

Only you can answer that based on your usage and preferences.

At least for me, the Pro 11” doesn’t constantly reload Safari tabs and apps so it offers smoother performance. It has higher storage capacity for storing part of my media collection on-device. USB-C also makes connecting accessories/peripherals a lot more convenient. Camera is better for scanning. Laminated display feels a bit easier on my eyes. There’s also ProMotion, Pencil 2 and quad speakers but I don’t really care about those.

It’s kinda like flying business class vs economy. Both will get you to the same destination. Business class is just more comfortable (better service and amenities).

Have you considered you don't need either? Reading through the thread, I see a lot of my past self - I was always searching for that upgrade or next device. I was never satisfied with the devices I already had. The way I changed that was getting out of a consumption mindset and into a creative one. I simply see my devices as tools to get work done now rather than anything special to acquire. Once my devices no longer meet the creative and work needs I have is when I start assessing what piece of tech might do what I need. Full disclosure is that's where I am right now - the iPad Pro 12.9 doesn't meet my current work and travel needs so I'm carefully considering what might do the job within a budget I've set for myself. But equally I'm in no rush to pull the trigger and purchase anything until I'm 100% sure.

You already know the iPad Pro 12.9 doesn't work for you. You already know the limits of iPad OS and that's not going to change regardless of the model size you choose. The 11", Air and Base iPad all have the same limitations. You mentioned you have a 24-inch iMac and 13 Pro Max which are meeting everything you need or want to do in your life. So my question is what will adding another device or upgrade into the mix do for you?

If the answer is nothing, why not take that money you worked hard for and (a) save it into your emergency fund or (b) spend it on an experience (e.g. vacation) that will provide you greater value than another device that does the same thing you already can achieve with what you have.

Ok for me.
1.doubt safari tabs would worry me
2.64gb would do me as I have 2TB icloud
3.us-bc just means another lead hanging out of my iMac when I can just use the lightening I use for keyboard/trackpad/mouse and iPhone, also when travel only need one charger/lead
4.Not sure on laminated would it be worse than mini 6?
5.Pro motion doesn't worry me, don't use a pencil and mainly use AirPods max or AirPods.

Home button seems a backward step though.

If it's a iPad probably just a bigger iPhone lol

I really like apple track pads that's all I use mainly with my iMac, I know that much.

It's mostly about level/quality of execution rather than raw capability differences. There are some things the regular iPad just won't do that the Pro will, though.

Sounds like you should save the money and get the base iPad.

Thank you for clarifying we're in the same space haha ? Looking at the language you used it sounds like you're not enthusiastic about the iPad anyhow. If this is just a bigger iPhone for you what's the point?

I'm standing by my original comment. If I was in your shoes and a third device is just going to do the same things you already do I'd keep the money you worked so hard to earn. But if this next device of yours is going to fill a need that currently isn't being filled I don't see why buying another iPad will solve the issue you're having. You've tried the iPad and it didn't work once so why would it work again just in a different size variant?

Are you open to considering options outside the Apple ecosystem that might meet your needs better as that's what I'm currently researching. I've been entrenched in the Apple ecosystem for so many years now that I'm really taking my research slowly and making sure it would be the right move for me before departing with any of my money. I'm in no rush to spend my money on another gadget unless it fits all my work needs.

Nah I am happy with Apple and the eco system, hate android and moved away from windows along time ago.
What I really want is a 14”MacBook Pro ?

I totally understand not wanting to move out of Apple's ecosystem. As I mentioned, I've been in it for years now. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't sell a device that meets my needs right now. I need a fully portable computer (not limited by iPad OS's current restrictions) which also has the capability to draw directly on the screen. Hence why I'm currently researching options like the Surface Pro 8, but I'm not going to rush my purchase until I feel certain it is the right move for me. I've been to the store to test it out and I'll probably make another trip to test it out further soon.

You just answered your own question. Buying another iPad isn't going to solve anything for you. You want a MacBook Pro 14". Assess your needs and make sure the MacBook will do what you want it to achieve (even go to the store and test it out if possible), assemble or save up the money, and when you're ready make the purchase.

You're on an iPad forum so naturally our first inclination is to recommend different iPad models ? But if you go out and buy another iPad, you're just flushing your money into something you don't really want but feel you need. And that new iPad you get won't serve what you need it to do. Get the MacBook Pro 14".

Bought a 14” 16/1TB MacBook Pro, was on sale today for $777AUD off, was too good a deal to pass up. Won’t get it for a week.

Wonderful to hear, I hope you’ll love it! Definitely check back in next week once it arrives and let us know how it is 😄

Just sold my 12.9" M1 iPad Pro I got on release day, so 1 week short of a year old. Only cost me $200AUD to own for a year.
Was mainly used as a TV in my office which I can do on my 24" iMac anyway, and for browsing crap at night on the lounge while watching TV so could use my 13 max for that or just don't lol.
My home office is central so easy to come in here, have had 1 holiday in 2 years, don't travel for work anymore only do day trips and my 13 max is all I need for that.
Tried a mini was good for books/apps not much diff than my 13 max for browsing, but also have a 11th gen kindle. Was thinking about a 13" MB Air or 14" pro but it's doubling up with macOS, i like my 24" in my office.

So what's next? I dunno? maybe nothing!!

Sorry for a bit of a derail, but how did you go about selling the iPad 12” in Australia? I’ve got an 11” to offload and I’m finding FB Marketplace a bit of a waste of time .. to only take a $200 hit after 12 months is really good!

I got it cheaper for about $1600, I just put it on FB marketplace and only had one person enquire, Sold for $1400 with a apple folio I got for free.
So I guess was really $399 hit if paid retail price. Which would still be ok iPads don’t hold their value well.

Nothing I see in iPad 16 has made me regret selling the M1 12.9, used prices will probably tank now.
Glad I didn't wait for Air 2 same config would of cost me $60 more than I got the 14" pro for.
