I'm totally agree with OP.

the new features are just eye candy and resource eating trifling matters but new bugs are introduced and 20 years old features as Screen Zoom are tweaked to something unusable it doesnt change focus at edge anymore, but BEFORE reaching it!! crazy nuts.

I dont play games, so I dont know about that feature, but I regret updating from Monterey last week

Final Cut and Compressor doesn't show the estimated time accuracy as before, it shows 0% for one hours, and the GPU and asitop shows just around 50% resources used when rendering 4k h265 even doing 2 renders at once...

Spinning wheel looks erratic, and many programs show spinning wheel more often kind of hang for a while, then come back to life, making the workflow annoying.

Is my Mac Studio Max already old??

I was waiting to update later in order to save some bugs, I wont know for all you have got pass since september 23

Its been a week so all spotlight stuff has been done and check permissions, and even boot in safe mode

may i suggest you backup, erase and perform a fresh install of monterey - the last stable macOS from cupertino.
my M2 came with it so that’s what i did and am content.
that said, there are millions of Macs out there running Sonoma with aplomb and w/o any issues at all.
full erase and fresh install of any major OS update has always been my mantra.
good luck 🤞

Nearly no complaints for Monterey, Ventura and Sonoma at this moment. Upon the initial release, there were some problems but these are solved now. Only occasional beachballs.
Running it on a MacStudio M1 and MacBook Pro M2.

this is a singular experience, not everyone's experience, and does not represent what should happen on your M1. perhaps call apple, get help with these things, they're not common. and apple is good with support even out of warranty. good luck!
I think that was the point. You can't admit that Apple "might" over engineer the OS to make people want to buy a new computer? Apple is in business to SELL HARDWARE....I've worked with Macs for 35 years and I can attest that this does take place even before changing from Intel to Apple hardware.

i can certainly admit that you have a theory.

what does 'over engineer' mean? advancing the tech? because i'm all for advancing the tech...

I am having the same problem as this thread on the latest MacOS Sonoma 14.4.1 on Macbook Air M2 13 inch

Relaunching Finder fixes the problem, but the issue comes back on the next reboot, even after removing all login items. The issue does not occur in safe mode.

I notice that the problem only happens if I leave Finder as the last active app before restarting (leave MacOS to show Desktop). For example, if I leave Chrome open and restart, the issue will not happen. The option to reopen windows when logging back in is checked.

The issue also happens with a new Admin user.

You can test this out by doing these steps:

Leave finder the last active app (show the Desktop)
Restart with the option to reopen windows checked
After restarting, open Chrome or any other apps
Open System settings
Close System settings -> focus switched to finder instead of Chrome (or any other last apps) -> the problem

Has anyone had the same issue and found the solution? Thanks for your comments.

This probably has been discussed before but I just need to vent my frustration with Sonoma. As I traveled to my other location I decided to update my 2019 Intel Macbook pro that I use to work here that used to run like whipped cream. What is this now, so slow, overheats, the fan that I never felt running feels like a blowdryer, the animations lag like this was a Pentium and it has been 3 weeks since I installed Sonoma. Never before a MacOS affected an older machine so much that it's basically unusable, the battery life lasts less than 2 hours vs 6 with Ventura. All of this for what? What's really new?
Now I have to plan and downgrade to make this machine usable again, something that I never had to do with any of my Macs before because I used to buy new ones them simply to get the newer shinier hardware. I also have to stress that my M1 Pro at home won't be as future proof as previous gens used to be and its battery life will be affected.
How bout the TV App, it has been a disaster since its conception. But, with Ventura is finally got as good as it could get, and with Sonoma it has returned to a big box of #$@@! Can't keep preferences with list and views, VERY hard to organize. and it keeps crashing too. TV App on Ventura works good (For the TV APP). With the beta of Sequoia it has not been changed. I also still wish they would include the import and export playlist feature that was on iTunes and still in music. But who am I. Just someone who likes it easy. Apple has great stuff, but the TV App is the worst app I've ever used in the last 25 years...I like iTunes..anyway thanks for listening.

Not like Apple has a history of slowing down equipment with bloatware
It would be nice if Apple would let users who don't need gigabytes of animated desktops, animated emojis, apps containing instructions in dozens of languages and fonts. Why do I have to keep 16 fonts in each language when I don t need any except English, French and Spanish. Apple!!! Stop making me keep $#!t I don't want!!!!
In 1992 Apple let us have it our way.....now it's their way or the highway. Not just bloatware... bully company.

Given the performance delta alone between Intel-based Macs and Apple Silicon Macs, the issues you're describing seem to be related to the older hardware in your machine rather than anything legitimately OS-related. You're talking about 8th/9th generation Intel CPUs coupled with either an AMD Radeon 5300m or 5500m GPU, none of which would even approach the middle of current benchmark charts. At least Apple hasn't pulled a Microsoft and deliberately made the latest OS incompatible with thousands upon thousands of PCs simply because they lack a TPM.
Why to people have to list all their equipment and do dahs? One may as well list all their stocks, home and cars values too.

totally agree, the amount of "everyday bugs" is not super high but super annoying, I reboot at least once per day in order to fix common tasks bugs in Finder, Final Cut and Compressor.

I did a clean install in order to see if there is any hope with the minimum amount of apps I need, spending so much time reinstalling everything, and nothing was solved.

A clean install???? There are .5 billion preferences to reset.... all nested some place you would never think to look for what you need. 😳

Apple is in de business to sell software .... in nice hardware.... but it is software why people buy the pretty boxes:

And I'm not saying that everything mr. Jobs said is 'right by default' I do think he makes a valid point.. a Mac without macOS is a pretty useless box.....

Well this last update really cleaned up Sonoma for my iMac M3. I no longer have the delay or stuttering trackpad issue that has plagued my iMac since the update from Ventura to Sonoma. It's running really good on my iMac M3 and my wife's MBA M2.

Even if its bad, its still the best consumer OS out there.

BTW I'm up to date on an ol' 2011 iMac care of OCLP and not complaining.

I am running Sonoma on my 2017 iMac Pro, M1 Mac Studio and M1 MacBook Pro 16. I have zero complaints about it. There were a few bugs when it launched - which I consider normal but this late out, macOS is usually rock solid.

To be honest, I don't think Sonoma is a bad system, but it has more beachballs than Snow Leopard and isn't as fast.

You are so correct. Sonoma is without doubt the worst OS released by Apple. I have been a customer since 1978, yes 46 years and without question this one is horrible.
