I'd strongly consider the XZ Premium, if it were not for that fact that it does not currently support VoLTE and WiFi calling on T-Mobile.

@AppleRobert , I'm intrigued. I did listen to a Verge or Android Central podcast one time and they recommended using the international unlocked version here in the US for the fingerprint sensor. Also, that model is $670 USD on Amazon. But obviously, they can't beat the financed deal you got at BB

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Premium...071ZDMFJ5/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

I may try this phone out and return in the 30-day window if I don't like it. FP sensor is a big deal to me but not necessarily a deal breaker.

Well I do see Amazon is offering this for substantially cheaper, thanks for the link. But I see the US version is cheaper as well.

I need to decide if it is worth me price matching at BB. That will probably only give me 12 months financing instead though so I will have to weigh that in my decision.

Amazon version is cheaper as its the International model. The version BB is carrying is the US unlocked with US warranty, so I highly doubt BB will price match.

I always loved Sony's squared design. I have used Sony Z3 and Sony Z Ultra GPE in the past and love both devices. I wish they were more popular. I feel as if they do not do any advertising

Likewise ... the last Sony I want and still having a hard time looking for time relevant (from release) pricing is the Z5 or the Z5 Compact (especially here in Canada). Craigslist is a joke, kijiji worse and Amazon Canada - I might as well jump back to early 2016 time machine and purchase one at full retail no contract!

My bank doesn't support Android Pay but they have their own version which uses the NFC chip and it's the same as contactless debit card payments so I'm set whatever device I have. Just needs an NFC chip. But I understand re the fingerprint scanner. Sony really shooting themselves in the foot.

not Sony but the US legal patent office is restricting Sony from exporting into the USA as their patent license does NOT cover the USA.

Local Best Buy by me had them on display, was totally unexpected as it was setup in a dedicated Xperia area. Held it in hand and played around with it, fell in love instantly. They're having a promotion where you'd get $200 off the MDR-1000X Bluetooth/ANC headphones with the phone purchase, so that sealed the deal since I was looking to buy a pair of Bose QC35 tonight.

Moral of the story: Go to store to buy Bose QC35. Ends up with XZ Premium + MDR1000X. If I wasn't using my iPhone SE as a stop-gap phone I think my wife would've murdered me.

Awesome. Let me know what you think. I ordered the international one from Amazon and get it tomorrow.

How is Sony with software updates? I expect that it'll get Android O eventually, but do they support the phone for at least a couple of updates?

It is a busy week for me so I have not spent much time with it.

So far the experience has been excellent though. Oh and that display, just watch some 2160p videos on YouTube and watch your jaw drop, quite immersive using a good set of BT earphones. There is a tweak on xda to lock in the maximum resolution but I rather not as that would kill the battery. And there is a display setting to adjust the color gamut and contrast, for now I have super vivid mode enabled. And a biggie, you can adjust dpi within developer options. Every smartphone SHOULD have this option with Nougat.

For its size it will be unweilding for some, about the same size as the iPhone Plus models. It is pretty grippy though, I have not fumbled it even once yet. I like the placement of the power button, I just pick up the phone with my left hand and my finger is right there to turn it on. No double tap to wake or sleep, maybe down the road with a rom perhaps. I’ve kept the default launcher and swipe right gives Google.

Is it Fast? You betcha! And the device is a looker as well.

And thanks to BB for 24 months interest fee, I could have just paid it off outright but why would I? :)

If interested, At least go to BB to check it out (where applicable). On second thought, you might not want to. :)

Have you tried swappa? I'm not sure if swappa works in Canada though ...

Such a nice looking phone! I have always liked the Sony Xperia smartphone line. I first had the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, then I had the Xperia S before jumping to iPhone. If I could convince my wife, I'd switch us to using Sony Xperia's, but she's just all about having an iPhone

Absolutely in love with it right now. Really enjoying the quality I'm getting from the LDAC as well as the HD Bluetooth for music (been streaming Spotify for about 4 hours today).

On the battery front I don't want to jinx myself but I'm at 8.5 hours of standby with 1.5 hours of SOT, and I still have 80% battery left. Thats with WhatsApp and Hangout chats going all day, streaming Spotify for about 4 hours, and 2 phone calls. This is on Wi-Fi and full LTE+ signal at work.

Another tidbit. 10 apps opened including two games and chrome with three tabs.

Smooth as silk switching, no refreshes and 1.5gb ram remains free.

Where have they been hiding this beast anyway. :)

I was not made aware of the offer for the headphones when I bought mine. They are excellent as I tried them out back when but I returned them since I did not want to really spend $399.

Just to chime in here, I received my black XZ Premium a few hours ago. I'm using the international version with working finger print sensor. I was even able to select US English as the default language and region.

-this thing is huge! I had a 7 Plus for about 6 months before going to the S8. But I always have loved the Sony Xperia design language. Gorgeous phone but has quite the heft to it.
-I got a system update right out of the gate, it was already on 7.1.1. but I got the June security patch as well.
-screen is gorgeous, I just have to see if the bezels are too large... but... I love having front facing speakers. I hate the quietness of the S8 single speaker
-the phone is very fluid responsive. feels like stock Android
-I'll be porting my Verizon number to T-Mobile tomorrow, so I'll be able to give it a go on the SMS/MMS/call front. Not having VoLTE and VoWiFi may be a problem though... but we'll see!
-Android Pay works out of the gate. I was able to add my card easily. Now I just need to test it.
-this FP sensor is quick. and I love the placement of it! I wish more OEMs put the FP sensor here.

so far, it doesn't seem like bringing the international version over here is an issue. I don't think any of these phones (US or International) will have VoLTE and VoWiFi for T-Mobile, so that may be moot.

Glad to read all the positive thoughts!

Seems like if people can look past the bezels (which I actually like!) Then you're in for a treat.

And at least they're not just bezels that are there for no reason. The front facing speakers are very good.

Love that we now have a nice little Sony representation group going on! :)
[doublepost=1499377487][/doublepost]Oh also, I'd love to see what home screens y'all are rocking on your XZP's.
It's such a good looking phone the wallpapers can elevate it further in my opinion!

My XZ Premium has been lagging and freezing up all weekend :(
No rhyme or reason why, been using it as I normally do, even closing all the apps that are open so there's nothing in the background.

It froze on me yesterday when trying to use the camera but then eventually fixed itself, and today it has been really slow when googling something just now and it just froze up again altogether. Screen went black and no buttons were responding. Eventually it flickered back to life.

Very odd. Don't understand what's going on with it. Might try a reboot, see if it helps.

When it comes to Android, to quote a former Apple employee "it forces you to brush up on your Comp-Sci degree and use the task manager to figure out which application/process is using up cpu cycles and ram..."

I'd do the same to figure our and narrow down to the source.

Hahaha I'd rather not have the hassle!

Reboot seemed to do the trick though :). It was not normal how much it was stuttering and lagging so hopefully it was just a little glitch. I haven't rebooted it since having it so maybe that's all it needed :)
