You may not care about your personal info being collected but I do.

It's already being collected man. The moment you make a purchase both your credit card company and the vendor mine your data and sell it. Amazon is a great example of this.

I have options. They're called apps.

Sure you do. Tell me you can freely choose any navigation app when clicking on the link inside your calender. No you can't. iOS says use Apple Maps or jump in a lake.

If you dislike iOS and will never use it unless they make changes you want, why are you even on MR?

I've owned and still own plenty of iOS devices for both work, my wife, kids, etc. Been on here for a while now.

Do you make a habit of searching for threads where people are excited about what Apple is doing and try to throw dirt at it?

I don't throw dirt. I'm correcting inaccuracies and representing the Android viewpoint based on my experience using both.

So what! We like iOS.

Great, but don't get all bent when inaccurate points are corrected.

I can understand if you use multiple platforms but you just admitted you don't use iOS.

Did I say I never ever used them? I still use a company iPad but really just for surfing and email anymore. It doesn't take long to outgrow it's limitations.

Serious, just in this house their is 5 iPads, 2 iPhones, 1 iPod touch. No one uses Siri, useless as tits on a bull :)

Voice assisted functions are what you make of them. And convenience is a factor. If Apple has made Siri available to be used without touching the phone, like the Moto X does, then more people will be inclined to use it.

For example (and you can interchange the iPhone 6 and ios8 with the Moto X here), I am driving along, listening to my music via my phone through BT connection and a text comes in. The phone automatically pauses playback and over the cars speakers tell you there is an incoming text from Joe. You choose to listen and then respond to the text, which was in regards to a meeting later in the day. Before your music automatically restarts you say hey Siri/okay Google set reminder/appointment for 2pm to meet with Joe. Phone then adds the meeting into your calendar. Music now resumes. And not once did you take your eyes off the road.

And yes, I have done this on many occasions. Not to mention drafting texts and emails via voice.

Will everyone do this? No. But make things simple and easy to remember and more are likely to try. Just saying. BTW, this one simple feature that has been added to ios8 is a big factor in me already deciding to get the iPhone6.

Sooooo iOS 8 anyone?

You obviously don't know how to use the iOS device. I can go to my scheduled appointments and touch the address and select which app I want to use to route me. It even gives me suggestions for navigational apps on the AppStore to install if I prefer. Now that's what I call options.

I'll stand corrected if the above is now finally on iOS but will still LOL that it took them 7yrs to finally provide their users a freaking choice! I wonder where they got that idea! Congrats for now having a choice in this one area. I'll have to pick up my wife's phone and try it again.

Keep throwing dirt.

Keep throwing dirt.

Calling Apple out on their sloooow rollout of a basic smart phone function is dirt? It's their dirt/delay dude.

Call me when I can actually pick up an iPhone and print to any wireless printer vs needing airprint. That might actually make using my iPad more useful or finally allow my wife to use her phone to print photos with ease.

Is there also finally a way on a windows machine to access my phone/text messages or pics or files from my desktop while at work? That's another PIA with Apple. I shouldn't have to pick up my phone off it's charger to reply to a text. Just give users access to that from their desktop without having to own a Mac.

You just can't let people be happy that Apple is providing new features. You always have to try to find some negativity. I use both Android and iOS but I don't go around this forum killing everyone's buzz. Again, we know Android has had these features. Why do you and a few others keep bringing it up.

I can print to any printer on my network from my iPhone. I just touch print and select the printer. I just add the printer to my WiFi network and I can select it. I'm not sure what's so difficult about that. AirPrint isn't some proprietary thing. It's just the name they give the option to wirelessly print from the iOS device.

I'm not negative. I even said congrats! Seriously, hell....you finally have the ability to do what you just showed me? I'm happy for iOS users. It's not negative to LOL that it took so long. That's reality. Especially in light of Apple supporters ragging on Sammy when they tout "the next big thing is already here" It's very ironic that for all those commercial plays they were actually correct.

Why do you and a few others keep bringing it up.

Because they are pretty basic smart phone expectations that one would have nearly 7yrs after the first one hit the market. If those points don't keep being brought up and pushed back on Apple, they will have little incentive to provide them.

You're a better man than me as I have both HP and Epson wifi printers and none of our iOS devices see them and all of them on are on iOS7.1.1 Of course ours aren't Air print compatible.

They come back with "no airprint Printers Found"

Contrast that with my Note 3 that see's all our wifi devices just fine.

It is proprietary. It's not offered on other devices and not all devices are compatible. Again, why Apple is so constrained is crazy.

Maybe it's some setting on your router or WiFi network. My HP printer doesn't have any "AirPrint" logo on it. Just the "WiFi Wireless" logo. I would think printer manufacturers would place a logo on the printer somewhere to indicate it was AirPrint compatible. I even searched the HP website to see if they mention AirPrint in my printer or any other printers. I couldn't find it. How old is your printer? Do you have the latest firmware on your printer?

Nope, it's an Apple thing. iOS devices aren't point/click compatible with just any wifi printer. Mine are about 3yrs old.

It seems the Epson Artisan and Stylus series printers don't have too many printers compatible but a lot of the Epson Workforce and XP series have compatibility. I'm not sure why the manufacturer couldn't just update the firmware. It's not like it requires special hardware.

Agree here--Google Cloud print is terrific and its versatility is something I miss on iOS. I have an AirPrint compatible printer in my home so I have no issues printing from any of our iDevices while at home. With Google Cloud Print, I loved being able to print to my home printer from anywhere. For example, my kids weekly school schedule and homework would be available mid day on Monday--could pull out my Android tablet or phone, requests the printouts and they'd be sitting on the printer ready for my kids when they got home--much to their chagrin. ;)

That functionality has come in handy numerous times--hoping Apple implements somethin similar in the near future.

Just to clarify, the above isn't using cloud print. That's just plain wifi and a printer on the same network as my phone.

I have used cloud print for my Okida 5xxx series color laser printer though. Does work good.

That has been there since ios 7.

^^ Must be your specific phone. Niether of our 4s units offer those screen shot options on 7.1.1

I tested it with a calender meeting on my sons phone and it jumps right to Apple Maps. If I click and hold the address it will offer me an 'open in' selection but Maps is all that's listed even though Motion-X Drive and Tom Tom are both installed on his phone.

Must be on phones newer than a 4s as it's not working on ours. Clicking on the address link opens it in Maps only. Click and hold brings up this screen but it doesn't show the other GPS apps on the phone.

I'm using iOS 8. In iOS 7.1.1, you have to choose transit directions then select the app. It's a bit clunky but it does give you the option to choose an app.

Here's what it looks like on my 4S running 7.1.1. Just touch "Transit Directions". That will allow you to choose an app.

Nope....is see where you're saying choose transit but it first opens in Maps, when I click on the little > it shows Transit Directions as an option, but it sits and spins despite a full wifi and cell reception capability. It doesn't show any of the apps on the phone, including google maps.

Try installing another app like Waze then try it again.
