oops. I forgot the iSight, I guess I will say look behind the pixels.;)

Oh and the corners of the screen should probably be rounder but I just copied and pasted an ACD.

Like this one and LeviG's design as well... the whole idea of an iMac that has a touch screen interface for use is an interesting one. I've seen something on the market before that I *almost* bought, but just couldn't justify the cost (this may have been mentioned before, but I don't think so in this thread).

It was esssentially a 15"/17" LCD monitor that you could detach from it's base very simply. It had wi-fi and a battery built in, and when you took it off the stand the screen image was sent wirelessly from the base station to the LCD. Seemed like a brilliant way of combining the expandability of a tower system with the portability of a laptop if you only needed it occassionally. As an interface, this thing had a stylus, or an on-screen keyboard.

Can't remember who made them, but saw them on the market about 4 years ago, at £1000 a pop... never used it in PC World, so no idea if it actually works well or if there's loads of lag when you do stuff on screen (in wireless mode)...

Mark.

this looks beautiful, won't the screen's weight cause it to fall forward. How will it be weighed down in the back?

That'd be the hooziewhatzit.

No, Im not a real designer but I figured they could adjust the center of gravity by moving the connection of the arm and base backward. But this is all coming from my buttox.:)

Ew wait, since it is wall mountable it could be desk mountable. You could use the wall mounting bracket to screw it down or you could buy the suction bracket for just 40 bucks from the apple store.

Bwahahahahahahaaaaaa!

Yo dude. PLEASE NEVER STOP DESIGNING! This post made my day. I almost passed out from laughing to much.

Yeah, the designs and the rendering suck, but you WILL get better if you keep trying.

Next time just use lines when you render. Skip the color also.

nice in theory, though i believe it to be a little........ um.... let us just say, not the direction i would imagine apple to be going.

i do think that having the cpu moved to the base/foot is a likely change, just the total package you have created in your image just seems.... off.

enjoy the speculation however.

The biggest flaw here is that to go from flat to standing you've got to flip and turn the entire system - dragging all your cords around in the process.

At the very least, just put a hinge in. Not that I like this design either.

Why dont you all leave the kid alone...
Its good someone is trying to be a little inventive.
I believe that with everybodys 'CONSTRUCTIVE' critism he'll eventually get their. maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon.

I like the idea of a hinge but then why not just bust and invert a current macbook. That ought to do it. That way you can keep the traditional keyboard if you wish.

My main concern is how can you possibly have the ease of functionality taking away the keyboard and mouse?

I guess this is apples problem anyways. Lets hope they get it right.

Anyone?, Anyone?, Anyone?

Godbless, this is one of the few threads you have started where you actually continue to post regardless of negativity.

I applaud you for that.

Now I will go throw up.

Thanks.

I don't think anybody owes him constructive criticism. This is an internet message board. The two are almost completely mutually exclusive.

And I think the design is terrible. I don't see how anybody who has needs this intends to fulfill would choose this over a laptop with a touchscreen.

Wouldn't the design in question be a stepback, a thicker imac ?, it looks like some PC vendors hideous attempt at a imac

Regarding multitouch, the iPhone seems to be their new baby, and has demonstrated that Apple is open to taking a device that historicly has had a physical keyboard and replacing it with a touchpad and slick software. I doubt we will see a wedge iMac, but I can envision a G4 redux, so that the screen swings down to a drafting table angle and position. It may be a long way off, so I would expect a tablet first, somewhere between the iPhone and Macbook.

Imagine this AO size like a real drafting table, something I could stand over and something I could plug everything into like a digital ruler and a wacom tablet. Include multitouch and god damn Apple should have made it already!.

Do you all think that a touch screen is a necessity for all consumer level computers? I could potentially see it as an option if Apple were to release a new product called something like "Mac Touch" but not in the iMac. I just don't see the majority of people using it.

I don't see Multi-touch ever being available as a option. Lets say they decided it would work well on iMacs, they would put it in them all, like they did with iSights. The option will be that you just don't have to use it, as in the speech recognition or Universal Access, IMO.

I do think that it is likely that Apple would go to a tablet or laptop before they would go into desktops but not necessarily because I think the iMac is actually what Steve thinks a PC should be right now so he gives special attention to it.

...also, I cleaned up that design I posted earlier. I think this looks better and I fixed a few mistakes.

Can't believe I'm resurrecting this thread, but I saw this and thought it'd be a possible step in the direction of a touchscreen GUI, still leaps ahead of the OP's ideas too.

Not unless you wanted to use more desk space than my design uses.

I guess you're not designing a touch screen iMac after all?

Why?

We use the keyboard and the mouse together--so why wouldn't we use the multi-touch screen, the keyboard and the mouse all at the same time?

Hiding the keyboard with the touch screen is a very, very poor design.
I think that hiding the keyboard is very good design. for a few reasons.
a) Apple has something called Ink just for that reason, drawing w/o going to a keyboard.
b) there is a virtual keyboard built in to every mac
c) if you are drawing and using it like a drawing table, then you will be sketching something, and then going back to typing.

And then to your designs:
they are ugly. They show little thought in what they will look like in use. They do show some signs of thought in the solidness of them. The overall concept is sound, but the implementation is poor along with the "Apple-ness" of the product.
