What is that? Photos? Some apps won't work in split screen. I think that is one of them. Try dropping messages or mail into split screen w/ Safari just to make sure it works for you.
Yes, the split-screen control appears when using Photos, but I don't find any app who are able to be in the 1/4 of a space.I don't think Photos can be resized to half the screen, I think it has to have a wider-than-tall window size, so it won't be able to snap to half the screen.
This was Safari and Notes. Tried same thing with Messages and Safari - no luck for any configuration.
I'll file something as well but split screen only works on some of my apps, not apps, not all. I can split screen safari & mail, mail & notes, etc. I can not split screen safari and Tweetbot or Photos w/ anything. Can you split screen Photos? If there is inconsistent behavior then that is most definitely something to report.
I can use split view on both my Retina MBP (2012) (trackpad) and my Mac mini (2012) (mouse), so I don't think it is related so much to hardware.
It is the 13", and it was an update from Yosemite. Maybe it is the discreet gfx on the 15" that is the problem? (Not that I can imagine why it would be so)Was El Cap a clean install or updated from Yosemite?

I find that very very odd since your machine is much newer than mine.
For what it is worth! Photos and Calculator can share split view!
Haha - yes, I also find it very odd since my machine is newer, but that's just what's happening. It seems likely it's some kind of software configuration mismatch based on everything I've read in this thread and others.
can't split screen anything with
I tried now by using screen sharing session, and it works fine also via remote accessing the desktop. So there must be some odd circumstances why it fails on your computer.Considering Metal is deeply integrated with the system UI now, it might be due to kexts but I can't think of anything else that could explain this.
Makes sense to me so you can use the desktop separately.I'm using a mid 2010 iMac and didn't think it worked, but I was doing it wrong. I thought you clicked the green button and dragged it to one side, but you don't - you click and hold the button (without moving).
That said, it works for Safari but not iTunes for me. Probably to do with the fact that the green button for iTunes is stuck showing the maximise (as opposed to fullscreen) symbol, even though when clicked it goes full screen (also you can select it as the second window when you've made another go half screen).
So what do people think regarding the fact that this is restricted to full screen mode? I haven't made my mind up yet. I think I'm going to end up loving it.
