i am in chicago so it is still pick your poison. the one up at&t has on sprint and vzw is the phone actually works in my room. but the pricing was still just ridiculous on all of them. so due to the fact i have always had a nice phone i had a rep to keep too. thus having a iphone for my latest cool phones.

Hmmm

A List starting on the 20th, baby! That'll take care of my minutes and plus, they don't have an iPhone on Sprint network! End of discussion for me!!!

That's because nobody lives in Kansas anyways...

The old Nextel headquarters is in Reston, VA and I used to live less then 5 mins from there and had great service.

i also live very close to reston and service is always 3-4 bars.. no problems whatsoever. sprint may not be great for everyone but it works for me and my pre bill is wayyyyyy cheaper than anyones iphone... cept that one guy who said his is that cheap but im not supposed to ask him how...

And of course if their customer base was as large as AT&T or VZW, they would still have this plan, right?

That is the ONLY reason this plan exists. Can not fault them for trying to make a buck but they would not be offering this if their business was not going south. A few people I work with use Sprint and they have nothing good to say about it. Bottom line is that each provider is going to be better in a particular area than others.

Sprint is a lot better than ATT where I'm live and work. I have both sprint and att phones and att services sucks big time. While waiting for my iphone to "load" data over att network i usually give up, take out my sprint phone and look up what i wanted to look on the iphone's safari but can't because of att.

so what that sprint's customer base is not as big as vzw and att. I can ask the same question "what if att didn't have an iphone"? :) I don't care what the customer base is for me 2 most important things are service and cost. I think that its actually good for consumers if other carriers follow sprint's pricing because frankly ATT and VZW are grossly overpriced.

Wow, that's a great deal. Now I feel like At&t is ripping me off with its crappy network. I'm getting sick of dropping calls left and right, and the very slow 3g speeds. The only reason I put up with their CRAP network is for the iPhone.

Do you really think if you put millions of iPhones on the Sprint Network, that the same thing, if not worse, would happen to their network? Hell, half the time you are with Sprint, you're bouncing off a Verizon tower. Then, everybody's gonna rave about how great the AT&T network is!

Then so be it. At least we will know. "You'll never know for sure until you've tried it." Let Sprint, Verizon, Tmobile, etc, etc sell the iPhone. Customers will complain about the bad networks, the word will get around, and in the end the losers will fall and the best network will prevail.

What does Consumer Reports say about cell phone service providers?

Only on an Apple forum will people complain about a competitor dropping monthly phone charges. I would have thought everyone would agree this is great news for the consumer. Let the prices keep dropping!

Lord almighty yes. It might as well be unlimited everything unless you are a severe talkaholic with someone on a landline.

The key addition here is NO RIDICULOUS $20 FOR UNLIMITED TEXTS WHEN YOU'RE PAYING $30 FOR UNLIMITED DATA. If this forces AT&T's hand, that's $5/month I'll save. Go Sprint.

Dude, I know exactly what you mean. I had to give up my iPhones because the plan costs were outrageous.

I was one that went with the Palm Pre. Unfortunately, updates are need badly for the Pre and Palm is taking their sweet time addressing them. The HTC Hero will be on the Sprint network soon, so I may give that a try.

Sprint on the other hand is GREAT here in AZ! No dropped calls and unbelievably fast data network.

I had three iPhone with AT&T on a family plan. The bill was $120 before I even got to my minute plan. ($30 per phone data plus $30 unlimited text). Also now that you can call or receive calls from any mobile in the US for free on Sprint, makes them #1 in my book.

I am hopeful that Apple will break away from the exclusive contracts with carriers and offer them on other more reasonable networks.

But, as with the recent iPod touch update, it looks like all Apple cares about is their bottom line. I am sure they will hop in bed with the highest bidder.

If Verizon or Sprint get the iPhone (Hopefully Sprint), I will be first in line to watch AT&T burn for what they have put us through. And they deserve to burn.

What's wrong with this? Apple is a business, not a social welfare agency.

It's not that we're complaining, it's that we're pointing out the reality of the situation: the prices aren't being lowered by an actual market mover. Sprint is doing this purely as a desperate effort to survive, and it's not likely this is going to have an impact on AT&T's nor Verizon's pricing strategies.

Remember when Sprint had SERO? That allegedly exclusive, heavily-discounted loss-leader plan that somehow everyone on Sprint had? Sprint was still losing customers then, as they have been for the past two years now.

They thought they could stem the tide with the Pre, and that would cause people to line up out their doors just like with the iPhone and they'd have a huge payday as a result. Turns out there were some lines, but only because each store had one or two Pres in stock, and the backorder process took forever. At the end of the quarter, they were still losing customers, and their only saving grace wasn't so much the Pre, but the fact that Sprint had so many pre-paid resellers picking up some (but not all) of Sprint's slack.

Meawhile, despite all these tricks by Sprint, AT&T and Verizon still have higher prices and are still signing up people at a million+ per quarter, while Sprint's just happy not to lose too much more than a quarter mil of total paying subscribers.

(By the way, the true numbers are pretty horriffic: they lost nearly a million post-paid, contract customers... the type of people who are more likely to stick around and get things like smartphones.)

The Sprint fans on this thread and go on and on about how great their coverage is. The fact is, people are still leaving Sprint for other carriers, and most of the time it's for Verizon or AT&T. There has to be a reason for this. Something is making people leave in spite of the low, low prices. And if coverage isn't the problem and pricing isn't the problem, then it's either because their phones suck, or customer service/billing sucks. Or, possibly both.

I haven't heard good things about Sprint's service in DFW. If I lived in a city where Sprint had good service, I might be tempted.

If sprint actually worked at my house I would be all over this. I only have AT&T because no other carrier works all that great at my house. If sprint ever stepped up its game here i would dump AT&T and go with a Pre.

my only wish is that as a result AT&T and Verizon will stop double dipping on people who have data plans by forcing them to get a text plan too. Texts are data....stop being jackasses.

It's because Sprint sucks period. They hardly have coverage anywhere besides metro areas.

I just had a customer come in last night from Sprint and switched his daughter to AT&T because we're the only provider that gives coverage to her college. The guy's paying something like 130 for 4 lines yet signs his daughter up for our unlimited text and talk plan for 129.

Case in point, Sprint is dying- they bleed customers to my store every day regardless of how much more our prices are. Are prices are what they are because we provide reliable coverage, and i speak that to my area in Upstate NY, I understand if some users on this forum don't get the best reception- cant guarantee it everywhere

Sprint is dieing mostly because of their years of very, very, very ****** customer support. Not even comcast was this bad at their worst point (they made a huge change I'll give them that).

AT&T coverage is best described as ****ing weird. When I go to the Pocono's Lake Wallenpaupake is still choking on edge coverage even though it's a summer hot spot for many people from NYC yet on the trip up I-83 (I'm coming from MD) the top of a mount in the middle of no where has 3g. Doesn't have it around the mountain. Just on top.

Are prices are what they are because we provide reliable coverage
ROFL...your joking right? At&t is hardly reliable. Why the hell do I get Edge in the middle of Los Angeles and dropping multiple calls on the 405 fwy? Even when I sitting on my couch I still get dropped calls with 3 bars.

@Maven1975
My Gf have the Palm Pre and love it. I played with it a bit and I think the OS is freaking awesome. I'll give At&t another month and if nothing improves I may jump ship to Sprint and get the Hero (looks good without the chin) or Pre. I'll save money in the long run and get great Sprint coverage in So Cal.

What's wrong with this? Apple is a business, not a social welfare agency.

Apple clearly has the technology to put the camera inside of the ipod touch. When they come out and say, "Oh..People don't want a camera.. thats why", we all know this is B.S. and they didn't want to do it either because of cost, or it was not ready yet.

Saying people don't want it is dumb and offensive. Tell the truth Apple.

hmm not sure if neone read this or not but apprently the parent company of tmobile is looking to by sprint/nextel.. thatd be interesting shakeup

Well, if you haven't tried Sprint lately, it is a whole new ballgame. They even credited me for my ETF that i had with AT&T. That was almost $400! I asked the for an Airrave for my office and they sent one out no questions asked.

I do remember a time when Sprint was really bad. This was back before Apple shocked the world and the Treo 650 was all the rage.

In AZ, AT&T blows. Dropped calls left and right. I am sure its awesome in other places, but I would expect 4g service for the price people are paying them. They are fricking milking this iPhone and trying to upgrade their service on the back of iPhone subscribers.

I would looooove to see this. I want to try a Nokia N900 badly! Also, several european phones are T-Mobile exclusives.

Great! The Hero and Pre are a good alternatives. Its gonna take more of us bailing to get their attention. However, when I tell people i'm saving more than $150 per month on Sprint, they are starting to see the light!

LOL, Sprint is rolling out 4G, while AT&T still drops calls and has issues with 3G.

Again, AT&T might be good in your area, but Sprint might be too.
