I tallied the number of offers to give away or trade song codes. You can see that demand exceeds supply for the first week of songs, but supply exceeds demand for the rest.

If everyone with extra codes for #8 through #22 were to offer them free (no trade necessary) to everyone who asked for them so far, then everyone would get the ones they wanted. Meanwhile, people who have #1 through #7 can drive a hard bargin.

That is what we have asked all members to do, so that their first-posted list will be kept current, so that nobody uses new posts as a way to "bump" for attention, and so that these lists will appear in chronological order, since some people may want to take the first matching offer they come across. Thanks.

Doctor Q, the reason we have been doing that is so that the people who are still in on the trade, still updating it, can see eachother's most recent lists. If people keep updating lists from previous pages, or even up in the middle of page 5, others may not notice the updated lists... since there hasn't been "new" activity on the page, and only updating old posts... I have had much fewer trades. If you want to keep it that way, can you at least clean up the board so people with current lists are on the forefront? Thanks:D
 
Since you asked...

Most people have posted their list and then gradually removed items as they collect the songs they want, or give away the spare songs they have.

Based on that, here's my reasoning:

When someone first comes to this thread, they'll probably read the entire thread looking for what they want. If they see it, they'll make an offer to trade, or they'll pick up a freebie they need. Ideally, they won't see any out-of-date posts with leftover lists. If they still need some, they'll post their list.

If they are interested only in giving away extras, they'll post and don't need to read old posts.

Once they've reached the end of the thread, they have little reason to go back and look for updates to previous offers since those lists will tend to shrink, not grow.

Keeping the original list up-to-date helps newcomers. Those already following the thread don't need to see the (shorter and shorter) lists again.

The case where my assumption fails is where somebody has newly acquired codes that are in demand, so they are adding something to their list that people have been waiting for. I suppose that would be a situation where it would be worth adding a new post and updating the old post to note that its been replaced.
 
Yeah, I keep updating with new codes, and also other old codes that I get. And I really don't feel like re-reading all of the old posts to see if anyone is willing to give me something I need for one old song that I've just aquired, y'know?
 
I agree with yaycoffee in that it would be nice to have a new, clean thread if the goal is to for each person to have one post and keep it updated. It would be much nicer to scan through approx. 25 song lists rather than 125 posts of all sorts.
