The most astonishing part about the whole article is that “most people have heard of Stardew Valley at this point…”

Seems I am not most people
We are the minority who will have the joy to discover it and enjoy it as if was totally new!. I am heading ti Watch videos about it. Then will download it and play it for 3 minutes. And never again as I do with most of my Arcade games :)

If Apple really wants to make Apple Arcade shine... they'd invest some money to bring back MacOS 9 and MacOS 8 classic hits:

Dark Castle / Return to Dark Castle (this is OG Macintosh as it gets)

Escape Velocity (Nova)

Bungie's Marathon series

Ambrosia Software's other shareware hits: Apeiron, Maelstrom, etc

Spaceward Ho!

LittleWing (Japanese developer) Pinball games

Old InterPlay-MacPlay horror and noir hits: Alone in the Dark, Flashback, etc.

These kinds of games need only a bit of work to be revamped (modernized for this century), and the hardware (CPU and GPU) demands are pretty low.
There’s a nice open source Escape Velocity clone called Endless Sky. It’s available for Mac, Linux, and Windows on Steam for free. Or, if you don't use Steam: https://endless-sky.github.io/

The normal version had gamepad support, but was definitely in need of those gamepad support improvements - gamepads were very janky. I'll have to see how how much they improved it when I get home.

I can't imagine the arcade version will be any different to the normal version.

Can confirm the gamepad support now feels in line with the console versions. Previously it felt very weird.

I have but only because it was referenced in a few episodes of TV. Nora From Queens for one.

Stardew never had IAPs. One of the few good games that didn’t adopt the worse gaming plague to ever exist (thanks Apple.)

But Stardew for iOS has always been neglected…

Apple popularized micro-transactions and software subscriptions (the worst things to ever happen to software.)
To play devil's advocate, the user base was a part of it too. If we were willing to pay $20 to $50 per game, then that whole landscape would've been completely different (but ofc., you're pricing yourself out there b/c there's generally not a culture of paying for stuff on the mobile markets) :\

At least you can still get some great games without ads, nor IAP for consumables ("gems" [yuk]). I don't mind IAP itself b/c games use it for legit extra content (like expansions, unlocking the full version of the game like Super Mario Run).

I bought this on iPad a couple of years ago based on the hype alone...but I just couldn't get into it.

Ok but if you happen to not like any of the above, what gives?
Most devs still ain't gonna bother about supporting Mac regardless of how powerful Apple Silicon is. Those devs include AAA game dev companies.
Yes, things will change, but anytime soon? I doubt it.

Ok but if you happen to not like any of the above, what gives?

out of the scope of your statement, which again was: "no AAA on mac"

well. it is, and more is coming. what you do or do not like is not relevant.

Everyone has their own way to interpret a statement.
And frankly, I couldn't care less whether Mac will have more AAA coming or not.
Yes, the "no AAA on mac" is a bit blunt, so what?

no idea why you're talking about it then

dont care if it was blunt, or sharp. what you perceive it to have felt like is also irrelevant. it's simply what you said, i only addressed what you said.
