I will also give my impressions:

- Overall the game is decent, but not worth all the hype IMO
- It looks to cartoonish for my taste
- If it wasn't set in Star Wars, this game would be a dud
- Nothing beats killing stuff with light sabers!
- Game runs smooth on my Mac using Parallels 7, which is awesome!
- Overall, will play until Guild Wars 2 releases

I disagree on that, this is the only MMO which I actually give a **** about the story.

Can I run this on an Early 2008 Mac Pro?

Hello all,

Don't know if anybody in the beta has similar specs to me, but do you care to speculate how well it would run on my machine?

I have an Early 2008 Mac Pro. 4GB ram, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB, and 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. My Boot Camp is Windows XP (pretty sure it is 32-bit. Will that be bad? Friend told me I should be able to DL 64-bit for free...)

I currently run WoW on the 'Good' settings on Mac side, and it stays at 60 FPS almost all the time (Vsync on) which I find more than adequate. (I played WoW from 2005-2008 on a PowerBook G4, it was getting like 18 FPS at the end of its life.)

From what I've read, I'll have no trouble meeting the minimum requirements, just wondering if people know what kind of performance I can expect.

Thanks for any and all replies.

P.S. My monitor is an old school 20" ACD from 2004. I totally have one of those big bulky ADC-DVI convertors. Would that cause any graphics issues? It hasn't before, but I've always been curious...

What kind of Mac are you using where this game runs smooth under Parallels? I have Parallels 6 and haven't always found games enjoyable under it, but they are good under bootcamp. Granted I am on 2009 i5 with 4850/512 but I do have 8g ram for the system

I would be shocked if it runs anything close to "well" on paralells. I ran paralells 7 on my 2010 iMac and tried to play Bit Trip Runner which is a side scroller and the performance was terrible.

I didn't record any movies... but here is a screenshot playing with my Wineskin port last weekend... you can see from SMCFanControl it was running very hot :) Only running 1920x1200 since thats all my 17"er does :)

kicked it out of full fullscreen for a moment to grab a shot right before the servers went down.

My fans are running loud and the computer is pretty hot when i play it on windows on my MBP 2011 so I think thats just normal for this. I have to have my volume up around halfway to hear the game properly.

I have tried your wineskin and my game is currently patching, I will hopefully be able to get it run too!

Early 2011 i7
8GB Ram
256GB SSD

I had to turn the settings down obviously, but i get 40-60 FPS on corusant.

I don't have my Mac with me at the moment, but I will post the settings I used to get those frames later.

When I'm at home I play on my desktop which gets 100-120 FPS, but for gaming on the go Parallels 7 has done very well.

My only complaint is the terrible mouse support, but I don't mind using the trackpad.

The only reason I'm using Parallels over Boot Camp is due to the fact my superdrive broke and with the latest EFI update for the MBP you can't install Windows from USB.

If you go to http://swtor.com/tester you can start downloading the new build.

Downloading is a long slog even with the best of connections. The fastest download for me was about about 1400kbps was 8 hours.

Then you might love this game. Just remember the "class story" is all most like playing a single player game. There will be thousands of others experiencing the same solo experience as you. There are moral choices through out the game. From what I can tell the primary significance of moral choices has a bearing on what kind of gear you can equip. There may be other impacts I am not aware of. My impression is that if you are Empire, you want to go "dark" and if Republic, "light". I'm not sure, but I imagine that a "light" Sith is going to regret it. :D

There is nothing bad about being a lightside sith or a darkside jedi. They access different rewards and that is about it.

The only problem arises when you are like me and play an Agent and so far at level 20 I am completely neutral, same amount of choices for each dark and light.

There is no reward for being neutral so currently you are forced to be dark or light, where as it makes sense to me for a character like an agent to end up neutral if you consider what an agents role in the conflict is.

The download is now about 21GB and it takes me about 6 hours to get it, it has been coming down in size recently so I guess they are tyring to get it as small as they can for release.

I really enjoy the game, it's not ground breaking but its a fun game and it has all the basic things I would want from an MMO. I have already found a guild and can see myself sticking around this game for some time once it releases.

Thanks for the info!

I won't know until I get home, but it seems that download speeds have dropped. Anyone else experiencing this? I've been in hotels which were not compatible with such a large download as the humongous 19Nov patch. I'm visiting relatives with a home network, am downloading at 160 kbps, and showing all most 12GB of Main Asset 1 downloaded. Can anyone tell me how large this patch is?
Thanks!

It is 21GB then when its installed it is about 18gb, you are as well starting from scratch as that and the patch are the same size.

The servers are getting hammered today, so everything is grinding to a halt.

Finally got it downloaded and am up and running. It only took 2 days. I may go with SWTOR into retail until Planetside 2 comes out. :):)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Is there any ETA on Planetside 2 yet? That and Secret World look pretty interesting, the only thing putting me off both games are SOE and Funcom respectively!

All I know for Planetside 2 is sometime in 2012... I'm negative about Secret World due to its nature. Have a great day!

I have a spring 2011 MBP with 4GB RAM and the 1GB 6750M. Is there a reason I can't seem to get more than 20fps at max resolution (1680x1050)? I can get better fps if I dial down the resolution, but then the game looks awful. My guess is my driver is too old.

EDIT: Window's Device Manger says my driver is up to date, but the driver date is 1/4/2011, version 8.812.0.0. I had gone to AMD's website and installed the Catalyst Control Center version 11.11, but that doesn't seem to have changed my driver (Downloaded here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx#2)

On my MBP I'm getting 20-40fps. I'm using the standard Apple drivers that came with bootcamp. Next time I sign on I'll try to remember and note my game settings.

I re-installed the drivers and now I'm consistently getting between 40-60fps which is much better, and with most settings on max.

Since the last beta update is now broken under Wine... I switched to using Win7 in Parallels to play and I am rather impressed, using mid ranged settings and getting 40fps+ through Parallels on my MBP 17" early 2011.

I have the 2011 MBP i7 2.2GHz, Hi-Res, 4GB RAM, and 1GB AMD 6750M. And I'm using the default Boot Camp drivers, which are dated 1/4/2011 (so nothing even close to up-to-date).

How does this run on a mid 2010 iMac?

I have the mid 2010 21.5 iMac.

3.2 Ghz i3
12 Gb RAM
ATI 5670 with 512 MB VRAM
Windows 7 64 bit via boot camp

Hoping for consistent playability on high settings at 1920x1080 native resolution. Anyone been running this rig in the TOR beta? Thanks for the feedback!

Since the NDA is lifted, here's the game running on a 2011 27" iMac with the i5 processor and 1 GB Radeon 6970M GPU:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KYdGYLS-WM

That's at 2560x1440 resolution. I set FRAPS to record at half resolution (720p).

I have the same iMac with 12gb of ram and had to knock the resolution down to 1900 x 1080 as it was stuttering quite a bit. It still does it a little at 1080p to be honest.
I'm surprised to be honest as its only using about 35% of the CPU and 30% of the memory. I have the latest ATI drivers, so am hoping it's something to do with the beta.
Strange yours is silky smooth though.

Late 2011 17" MBP ... so i7 2.2, Radeon 6750, 8gb ram...

I have 2 CPUs going to Parallels, 4 gb of ram... Win7 Pro 64bit... and running the game at everything max, with shadows and bloom off... at 1680x1050 and I'm pulling from 30 - 50 fps... occasionally some areas are dipping in the 20s but it hasn't really been noticeable, thats just from the in game read out. The average stays around 35 to 40

Bloom is a major culprit for framerate issues. I recommend turning it off... the visual improvement is minor and isn't worth the tradeoff at the moment. I'm hoping the final build alleviates this problem.
