I know I'm only making worse the "fake-vs-real" argument, but can someone compare the height of the RX350 SUV (67.7" I think) behind him, compared to the height of Steve Jobs (6'2"), and figure out the height of the man "holding" him? That may help gauge the real/fakeness of this picture.

Not that easy, bub. You have to account for perspective. You need to know the distance from the foreground (Steve and co) to the mid-ground (the car) to even start to accurately calculate that. Given that it's a driveway with a grade you're getting into even more variables.

Regardless if the picture of him in the hospital gown is photoshopped or not I don't think the close up of his face is and his face looks very ill. I like Steve and I hope he keeps up the fight, but I'm sorry to say we are probably looking at several weeks to a few months at this point.

It is so sad to see someone die from cancer. Many of us have witnessed it and I think all of us would rather leave this earth another way.

I wonder if steve thought about trying to build himself a robot body. I wonder how many billion and how many years work it would take to make a robot body, or at least something to keep the head alive, chop my head and mount it on a system that can deliver awesome blood to the brain, it can't be that hard considering all the dialysis/heart-lung bypass medical technology that is currently out there.

That may be my new goal in life, I will make enough money to build myself a robot body for my head before my body kicks it. then i'll work on genetics-aging and regeneration until my head can go on forever, then i'll discover the origins of the universe and contact aliens. and Ultimately shoot myself into a black hole when i get bored and know pretty much everything, and I'll get to see the whole future of the universe play out before I get spaghettified.

It wouldn't surprise me if the first person to cheat death in a significant fashion is alive right now.

maybe it is time to give the Bong a rest

the crazy future plan to contact aliens aside, is it really so crazy to think about having a head live without a body? The body basically just keeps the head alive with blood, and most of the things the body does to give the brain good blood we can do with machines at this point at least short term.

I guess lungs give air for talking as well as deal with the blood so I guess you'll have to hook up a compressed air line to the head to talk, but that would be awesome, never have to stop for a breath... ok.. putting the bong down.

Well at this stage a human can possibly - with the most advanced (and possibly quite clandestine) cybernetics technology available - be "bionicized" to *some* degree, but I fear it would be rather limited and experimental. Probably not much use in terms of longevity.

In the future, maybe. Before we see our fantasy cyborgs, however, we'll see the incredible benefits of stem-cells, which is something that holds an incredible amount of promise.

I must admit, a Picard-esque mechanical heart is a pretty exciting thought. I believe there is such a thing already, but it's not quite ready for prime time. ;)

Does western medicine have a cure for cancer?

Thanks to western medicine, my dad is officially in remission from prostate cancer because of western medicine's early detection and treatment. I'm glad he didn't try any voodoo medicine, or worse, pray to an invisible man in the sky to cure his cancer, and I'm sure he is too.

The photo is on the front page of our Sunday newspaper (NOT a tabloid) here in Western Australia, and it's a lot clearer than what is shown on TMZ. In this picture I can clearly distinguish between his shirt/sweater and what people are saying looks like a skirt in the TMZ version of it - it appears to be more a pair of airflow/basketball shorts that are way too baggy for Steve. It really does look like it has lost some of the detail on the TMZ post. I'll try and get a scan of it.

Photo off aussie newspaper. Different from the TMZ one. More clearer. I think the TMZ one looked like photoshop because of the Sh** compression they used when they turned both images into one image and put them side by side.

still could be fake! but this is at least the fake without the bad compression. (Also notice that it has the extra garden on the left side meaning they also had the original source..?)

is it my imagination or does steve look slightly healthier in this pic?

It's very hard to see on the online photos but in the print edition (on the front page of one of the two major Sunday papers here in Sydney, Australia) it's clear (if you look closely) that he is wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts.

The overlap of the tshirt over the shorts is visible in the printed photo. I think it's the lower contrast with on-screen viewing that makes it hard to see.

The 'dress' effect is because he is so skinny the fabric is hanging in a way it usually wouldn't on a healthy person combined with the two garmets being the same colour.

I'm real hesitant to get into this frey but why are those shoes both people are wearing so BLUE'ish ? That part looks really photoshopped.

It's pretty obvious the photo is taken spy-stype from a car window, probably with the windows up.

Don't really want to get into the whole real vs fake thing but I believe the photo was taken from a car window and the blue is the reflection from the bottom part of the window

Interestingly TMZ appears to have taken the photo down.

Edit: no they haven't... sorry, just a loading problem.

This sort of thing always happens. Elvis dies, then somebody sees him. It's like, they come out of the woodwork.

And the **** storm that ensues, is worse than his singing.

Fact is, those Bigfoot photos? NOT photoshoped. (hint: It's a monkey suit)

Also, same thing happened with Jesus. Jesus dies, somebody sees him. Now look what damage THAT did. ;)

Bigfoot=Jesus=Steve Jobs

That's quite the trinity.

I feel sad when anyone faces the prospect of dieing before living a full life, 80 is a good number. And it's sad when someone so important to a technology I'm very fond of looks like he is about to leave this world. But it's part of the package. There are no guarantees. We have to make the best of the time we've had and not to write him off, but I'd say Steve Jobs has made very good use of the time he's had. Who could ask for a more productive life?

All the people yelling "Photoshopped! Fake!" are in denial about Steve.

Remember last time when The Enquirer leaked pics, everybody was screaming "Fake! Not him!" and then it turned out to be true.

He's sick. Why do you think he can't remain CEO of Apple?

I hope he'll recover, I really do but it looks like the cancer is taking him over and he has few weeks/ few months left to live.

Get well, Steve, think positive and fight back!
