I used the Barclaycard app on an X with no troubles (what I'd call "fake" FaceID signing in, IIRC) and I am using it again on my 7 with TouchID and zero problems. I can't say whether it supported the X screen resolution, but it definitely works with both TouchID and FaceID.

The Barclays Bank app supports Touch ID and now Face ID the Barclaycard app doesn’t.

Are you kidding?

Banks go through months of testing for every little change lest they find that a security flaw was introduced in the process.

I, for one, value the security of my money over fast app updates. Don't look for any apps that deal with money to move quickly on these kind of changes.

capitol one, paypal, bank of america have updated

I figured maybe 2-3 weeks max and most companies would easily have this updated- but at this point it’s really ruining the user experience by wasting huge chunks of the iPhone X screen when using certain apps.

A realistic timeline is closer to 8-12 months.

If a bank app works, most developers spend their time fixing critical issues and security problems. Cosmetic updates are always dead last.

Almost every app I use has been updated, maybe apart from banking? But then it’s banking so the fact it has black bars doesn’t bother me as long as it’s safe to use.

Priorities and all

What are these "major" apps? Specific names please.

Kindle.

Other than that, thankfully nearly all of the apps I use have been optimised. There's a couple of obscure apps I still use that aren't, but they still haven't been updated for the Plus phones lol, so I'm not expecting any update on them whatsoever other than iOS11 compatibility.

The stock Weather app hasn't even been updated. The controls on the bottom are too close to the edge and the home bar is very close to overlapping the page indicator.

Some golf apps that I use. PGA Tour, PGA Tour Live, LPGA and Golf Channel haven't been updated. I sent feedback to all of the apps.

I will add watchESPN and NFL mobile(user interface has been optimized but the actual game/videos hasn’t)

Rotoworld- the most popular fantasy sports app- still not updated as well

What are we specifically looking for to see if an app has been updated, other than whether it hides the home bar during game play or not?

I mean, I think I know - like The Weather Channel app uses the entire screen at the bottom, round edges and all, but it still uses a white bar at the very top for the settings icon, city name, and search icon. Philips Hue app does a similar thing, and doesn't have large borders for bezels at the top and bottom. Tile app is also updated.

But something like MacID to use phone to unlock your Mac, or MySubaru to unlock my car, still have larger borders.

Is that all you're looking for? Or are there other issues that non-optimized apps are lacking?

For non-Apple apps that I use, Amazon Alexa app, Sony PlayStation app, Golf Zero (popular game) haven't been updated.
Funny thing (well not so funny for us users) is that Sony’s own PS Messages app is taking advantage of the iPhone X display which to me is total laziness from Sony, why the hell did they update the PS Messages app and not the main one aswell...

Certain apps it’s not much of a big deal imo. The ones you use infrequently and for some info, then leave.

The Kindle is the most egregious example of the opposite. An app that you spend extended periods of time in first of all, and secondly one that benefits hugely from more screen real estate. Can’t believe it’s seen iirc 3 updates since the X arrived, and none of them include an update for the screen dimensions.

I use an e-ink Kindle most of the time, but for those times when I don’t have it with me the Kindle app is passable.

Yeah, I would agree on that one. It should also hide the home bar when in dark mode, so the bright white home bar stop blinding me at night in a dark room. I have to use Guided Access to lock myself into Kindle, and then the home bar hides for me while I'm reading.

I also use an eInk Kindle, but at night I try to avoid the blue LED light on the kindle and use my iPhone X.

I have to say- it’s really beyond disappointing that we are 2.5 months post release of the iPhone X and there are several major companies, along with smaller companies where there is many more, that refuse to update their apps to be properly optimized for the iPhone X. I figured maybe 2-3 weeks max and most companies would easily have this updated- but at this point it’s really ruining the user experience by wasting huge chunks of the iPhone X screen when using certain apps. I know Apple is not solely to blame here- but if I would have known we would be 3 months into the release and so many apps would
Still not be optimized correctly- I would have passed for an iPhone 8 Plus. Just very disappointing.
Have you contacted the app companies? If not, I think that that would be the logical thing to do, instead of expressing frustration and concern to powerless strangers.
