I know, you deserve alot more and should get everything for free or cheaper

Take your eye roll and stick it where the sun don't shine. I am hardly a member of the sense of entitlement crowd. Apparently, you're too much of a fanboy to see that it isn't such a great deal if you're already paying ATT for access.

The 2 have nothing to do with eachother genious. You have an iPhone with data and you want to get a 3G wireless card. Do they give it to you free or for a discount since you already pay for unlimited AT&T Iphone data? Same thing, it's a business not a charity.
Shows your maturity level by your attitude and by thinking you should get it cheaper.

I agree. And we'll probably never know, but maybe the iPad deal was a bone on AT&T's part, to help convince Apple to extend the iPhone exclusivity deal.

It may have been, but Apple surely bit or the deal would not have happened, and we'd be paying $60 a month, as usual, for the iPad tethering. AT&T did not do this out of the kindness of their heart, especially if Apple is in talks with Verizon, Spring, T-Mobile etc. The iPhone will likely be a GSM phone only. I doubt it will ever gain CDMA compatibility. Ever.

Uh-oh, I better go run off lest this "genious" get the best of me.

They have everything to do with each other. If ATT would like to provide another service to me, I'd expect a discount. Just like I get with my cable company and utility company.

I was even such a fanatic that fledgling Apple stores in neighboring towns used to invite me to help set up Apples new issues (long ago before they ever imagined geniuses). The Iphone and now the ipad leave me feeling like a jilted lover. I had a sickening visceral response when they announced that the ipad will be on AT+T.

Perhaps it simply has boiled down to the reality that I hate AT&T more than I love the modern Apple.
HAHA, you act like Apple owes you anything. Truth is if you do not get good AT&T service where you live then move.

Data is allocated by bits. If you are paying 30 dollars a month for unlimited data then it should not matter if it is on one line or another. Either way it is on your plan, easily measured which means easily divided and can be be distributed between devices. This is like paying 2 times for internet service at your house because you have a router with 2 computers or 3 times because you also have a xbox.

I find it funny how soo many people make excuses for huge corporations ripping them off.

Yes , you'll get a discount ok....
Ask steve jobs for one, maybe he will give you an Apple bundle package :D

this will never happen

though I like the idea there is no way to do it so this thread is a

Your logic makes no sense.
Welcome to the real world.
By your logic since I pay for Internet at home and they are bits of data I should get Internet on my cell phone, laptop, ipad and everything else for free also.
I pay AT&T for Internet at home anyway right?

Not only did we get a GSM-only iPad, it still doesn't have support for T-Mobile's 3G frequency band. If there was ever evidence that Apple's hitched its wagon to AT&T, this should be it. I would expect the next iPhone to use the same bands.

That said, I think the iPad is being sold the way the iPhone should have been to begin with: unlocked and unsubsidized. I would love to see the iPhone sold unlocked, contract-free, and with an optional $15 250MB or $30 unlimited data bolt-on.

You should only pay once per medium. That is to say,

The cost of AT&T providing you service through your landline is the same regardless if you have a router of not. So it does not matter if you have 1 pc, 10 pcs or 100pc. The cost for AT&T (or any provider) is the same. So if you want more service, want more computers to access the information at once you need more bandwidth. Which is why they do not cap usage but instead cap bandwidth and charge you money based on the bandwidth.

If you are paying service for AT&T to provide you internet though your wireless connection, the same concept should still apply. But of course it does not. It is a lot more profitable double booking people for service and instead rate them based on data usage not bandwidth. So people end up believing they are getting charged a fair amount because they are being rated in something when in fact they are being rated on the wrong thing and thus getting ripped off.

It would be nice but it doesnt work like that anywhere with any company.

AT&T recovers its subsidy of your iPhone by charging you $30 for unlimited data. According to analysts, when you figure that in, AT&T is barely breaking even on your data plan; if they allowed you use your iPad on the same data plan they would actually be losing money on you. Your expectations are unreasonable.

LMAO :D
You're enjoying this alot huh?
I was expecting it also, sad to bring it to Verizon folks.

Yes I am enjoying this. After months and months of constant Verizon fanboys yapping all around saying how Verizon is getting it... and blah blah blah...

Also, I don't see Verizon fanboy #1.... kdarling... wonder what he is doing.

Sorry to break it to you, but the clues about AT&T holding exclusivity are all over the place, you were just blinded... yes your tears too are delicious...

You misunderstood. I am replying "NO" to the original topic to stop the Verizon rumors because I don't want the rumors to stop. I like reading how "knowledgeable" someone's friend is who works in the marketing or development department at Verizon and is TELLING YOU Verizon is getting the phone soon.

It's just pointless but amusing at how the anonymity of the internet creates fearless tech marauders who know everything.

Dig?

Preaching to the choir.

If that is true (which i believe it is) AT&T can not disclose that information because that is illegal. The right and legal thing for AT&T to do is increase your cost per phone (e.g. charging you 15 dollars per month instead of 10 until your subsidy is paid off) not charge you 30 dollar a month per data. Legally speaking that 30 dollars a month you are paying to at&t is for data not the subsidy or anything else.

Your expectations are unreasonable.
So I guess not paying off a subsidy forever or getting double booked on service is unreasonable. It is truly remarkable how corporate brainwashing can make people happy getting ripped off. So much so that they will actually defend the scam.

Delicious Verizon Fanboy tears are so great! Yum, yum!!! yes more Verizon tears!

Just throw a few million more high data use devices on the AT&T network that you think is so wonderful and we will see how that is working out in another year or so. I never understood why some people don't want carrier choice. Oh well I guess we do have Android now for carrier choice and I am very happy with my Droid.

My romance with Apple is finely over. For decades I have been a true believer. I bought one of the first macs in 1984 and have purchased over ten computers from them since. That seemed more than a hint that Vorizon which actually works where I live will probably not be getting an iphone this year. I also was disheartened about the thought of Apple driving up the cost of e-books by pricing them 50% higher than other services. Jobs threw the Newton away and messed up itunes with copy protection to the point where I still have difficulty forcing myself to download music from their store. Could we have Wozniak back? In the meantime I have been teased once too often by Apple. Back in the day the slam on Microsoft was their practice of buying code and trashing it rather than writing new code in order to get rid of competition. Apple has gradually become better at that than Microsoft ever was. While my departure from the Apple boat, I am sure, will not be missed and Apple will continue making billions my new battle cry will be viva android! At least with Verizon I can finish a conversation when I get a phone call. I had AT&T for years. Perhaps it simply has boiled down to the reality that I hate AT&T more than I love the modern Apple.

Just get a Droid. That's what I did since I figure Verizon will probably never get the iPhone. Motorola is also developing an Android tablet that is very similar to the iPad, but it will run on Verizon. I am sure it will have flash support and USB ports so in some ways it is likely to be better then the iPad.
