I personally love the X & Xs but my girlfriend totally agrees with the OP and is clinging onto her 8 Plus still.

IMO it's hard to go back to a 6-8 series phone after using an XS. It's so much more pleasurable to use day in, day out. That said I still use an 8 for music and it's a great spare for when I don't want to risk damage to the XS.

kepler20b seems to have a lot of hate going by their post history. I also found this post regarding the iPhone 8:

But now it's the best iPhone ever. Apparently.

Here is another gem from the op.

Funniest thing about his predictions, the s9 was actually huge flop. iPhone X not so much.

The Thing when I read threads like this, which I find baffling when members start threads like this, they don’t respond to anything of why they _believe_ what they do is wrong with the iPhone, they just list certain things that are highly more subjective than they are fact. It Just doesn’t make sense to start a discussion pointing issues over the phone, but doesn’t post why they believe what they do, and yet that individual never discusses anything about their own thread. Strange.

One of THE most underrated features of the X and up series besides dual sim (Xr, Xs, Xs Max) is...

Not having to deal with the the very OBTRUSIVE in call green bar across the top of the screen. Now it is a very palpable small pill. I noticed this right away coming from my iPhone 7.

Such a pleasure not having to deal with that anymore.

Probably because they know there are enough people here who get twitchy when someone suggests they prefer older iPhones over new lol. It’s a classic hit and run thread designed to stir.

I shouldn’t have waited to downgrade.

Faceid is a bad solution to a problem that doesn’t exist
The notch is a security issue for those that need the vpn notification on the status bar
Having laser beams burned into your eyeball is not good
I can see the pen tile matrix in the Oled
Brightness level in direct sun no longer an issue
Driving and unlocking to view gps directions are no longer a life or death health hazzard

The 8/8+ are the best phones apple has ever made
Er, no thanks. Not thinking about it nor planning to. Enjoy your downgrade, however.

The 8 is clearly inferior, but the size of the 8 is great. Would love to see a Xr-variant in that form factor - or smaller. The X-phones are a bit bulky for my taste. Especially XR and XS Max.

I just recently upgraded from 6s in January (I used to upgrade every year until the 7 was released) and I was choosing between the XR and the 8.

Things I liked about XR:
New design
A great battery life
Great Camera

Things I liked about the 8:
Size (I don’t like big phones)
Fast internals
Great camera
Design (yes, this phone still looks and feels good to me, and it’s not as thick as XR)
3DTouch (I use it quite a lot)
PRICE! (€650)

In my humble opinion, paying €1150+ for a phone is absolutely insane. I know many would disagree with me, otherwise X/XS models wouldn’t be so successful. But I think that given all the choices we have from Apple at the moment, the 8 has the best value for what it offers.
XR is the next option, if you are ok with the size.

What really drives the need for an X-series phone is camera quality - especially Xr/XS really represents a change from iPhone 8.

Portrait mode is EVERYTHING and has literally brought another dimension to mobile photography.

I’m more than happy with the camera quality on my 8+ but have no doubts cameras get better each year. The problem is, if the camera is more than satisfactory, there is less incentive right now to spend more.

I would expect the triple lens camera for the iPhone 11 will be on another level, but the question still arises, does the consumer justify the price point for the technology? That’s where Apple has to really deliver in terms of marketing and the overall value for the iPhone.

I have an iPhone X, my wife has a XS, and my mother has an 8+. I’ve spent a lot of time with all three. They are all excellent phones with beautiful displays, but personally I wouldn’t want to go back to the 8/8+. My wife and I both love FaceID, and my TouchID iPad feels a tad clunky to me now because TouchID is this thing I have to do. I hardly ever think about FaceID... it’s so seamless for unlocking the phone or for secure apps. The main reason I bought the X was to get dual cameras in a smaller than plus form factor, but I’m surprised by how much of a difference FaceID and the gesture driven swipe up to go home interface has made in terms of fluidity while operating the phone. Not that the home button was bad. I just prefer the new way.

I hope your iPhone 8 has a long and useful life. When it’s finally time to upgrade, I don’t think there will be a home button option for you. There will likely still be Android devices with a fingerprint scanner, but I think Apple is done with it.

When my wife went from 8 > X the difference was quite noticeable. Our dSLR has not been used much after that. (Not saying the X > DSLRs) Pictures from the X are "good enough" for almost everything we use photography for. I am also very happy with light editing directly on the phone. Strange how quickly things have evolved.

I own the XR but seriously considering going back to the 8 plus. I miss the width of the 8 plus I know there is not much difference but with the xr black boarders on the side it looks small to me.

I’ve been an amateur photography enthusiast for a couple of decades, and I own a pretty nice collection of DSLR and m4/3 gear. I started buying m4/3 years ago when I wanted a compact daily carry camera. I went from an iPhone 6 to the iPhone X, and I don’t carry my other camera gear as frequently as I used to. The dual camera, as well as the overall increase in image quality and imaging technology, makes these phones very capable tools for photography and video. I still prefer to shoot with my dedicated camera gear when I plan to take a lot of photos (especially when I plan to use specialty lenses like. Fisheyes, ultrawides, telephotos, etc. or when I need to shoot action or really challenging conditions. Even then I find myself shooting with the iPhone alongside my Nikon and Olympus gear.

Good luck sticking with 2017 processors and RAM forever.

I love that you all have dug into my posting history.

Truth hurt so much that you spent time researching. I'm truly grateful.

As for the thread:

1/ Those claiming faceid is a better solution: you are just biased and wrong. No one aside from people that work for the government or corporations carrying sensitive trade/secret data needs the extra verification level that faceid provides.

Aside from your family no one is touching your phone. Faceid is a stupid "solution" to a problem that doesnt exist. It presented the user with a slower and more dangerous method to unlock their phone. If your car does nto have carplay, or you refuse to use siri and have every conversation you have in your car beamed to apple, faceid while driving is downright hazardous and life threatening.

Often times I am traveling to somwhere im familiar with, but not so much that I dont need the gps. So i'll know the exit and want to confirm the next turn i'm gonna make before the app tells me. Using faceid in this scenario is a joke. I've tried it many times before and it is a stupid stupid joke.

Whereas having touchid my eyes are literally NEVER off the road because I can use my finger to unlock and riase the phone. success rate is at 1000%. It takes less than 1 second to confirm that after exit 68 i am looking to stay on the right hand lane.

2/ vpn. Sorry, again more ********ters chiming in.

If you travel alot and need to use vpn to secure yourself, the notch on the phone is a complete joke and an enormous security risk. Its a bigger security risk than whatever extra "security" faceid adds to the phone. a complete joke that you have to swipe down to confirm you are on vpn.

Face ID is the future, rather you choose to support or not, is your own prerogative. But it’s far more secure in terms of over touch ID, it’s not perfect, but it doesn’t need to be, nor was touch ID either.

This isn’t true. And I really ever read/hear any complaints about this whatsoever due to the notch.

That’s interesting, do you know anybody specifically that where Face ID has caused damage to their eyes? I don’t, and we certainly don’t have any conclusive evidence of long-term affects affecting anyone either.

Driving _and_ using your phone in the first place is negligent behavior and you shouldn’t be doing it. It doesn’t matter with Face ID or not, leave your phone alone when driving in the car.

Subjective. I believe the 8 is a ‘great’ phone, and it doesn’t have a lot of hardware issues, where this phone matured nicely over the years, but you’ll _never_ have the majority agree with you when you say ‘best’ either, that’s more a blanket statement.

No it is not. Android phones now have finger print sensor under the screen so they do not need a notch on the screen. That is the future (actually it is already here).
