This thread is funny..

You're right.. i dont understand spending $60 a month because you cant browse the net AT WORK.. i mean, if you need to browse at work, then your employer should pay.. I have never been in an office... or even a MC DONALDS that didnt have wifi.. so i'm very surprised that ANY work place doesnt have a community wifi ..

but whatever..

the guy suggesting that you just use your MBP.. well, it would make sense, but its a big gadget to pull out every time you want to update your facebook or twitter (which is what I am assuming 90% of this guys usage is)

If you can afford it.. great.. but if you are one of those guys without health insurance just to have this thing.. your a dick - IF

I work in downtown S.F. and AT&T data service is next to unusable. I get Edge all day in the office (20th floor). Got tired of not being about to use my iPhone and MacBook pro I went ahead and got a Sprint MiFi. It's been a day now and the connection is ROCK SOLID.<snip>
Sounds like a good plan.

These type of devices are gaining in popularity it seems. Even here in Japan there are a couple of models available.

Having one device that can share a cell Internet connection to 5 devices over WiFi is sweet.

Why should an employer allow employees to use company resources to browse the Internet for non-job related browsing?

Then maybe you haven't been to enough offices. I have never been to an office that had open wifi or wifi period and I work in manhattan midtown financial district. And it doesn't seem like he's selling his kidneys so he can pay for it, so more power to him.

Everything you say you want to do on your three devices could be done on your MBP alone, including unlimited multitasking. Why not just get a dumb phone and use your MBP with a USB dongle, then do all your slingboxing and skyping etc. on the MBP. Your setup just makes no sense.

I don't think carrying a MBP in your pocket is practicle.
