Why does Apple INSIST on removing features and changing to worse versions of features?

After taking away the ability to easily turn off Wifi and Bluetooth in control centre back in iOS 11, they left the ability to switch them off in control centre if Aeroplane mode was enabled. Now you can't switch bluetooth off at all without going to settings which is bloody annoying.

Then today I was out the first time since iOS 15 came out (I'm currently in lockdown) so needed to check in with a QR code and in iOS 14, when you scanned a QR code in camera, you got a lovely big easily tappable notification/banner with the URL. Now, you get a stupid tiny popup with a fiddly touch target, which disappears as soon as the QR code goes out of focus. WHY APPLE? WHY??

When you're carrying things and using your phone one handed and checking in to multiple places, it's extremely clumsy to use this new method.

I think these changes are pretty awesome.

How is an easy to use banner for QR codes 'dumb'?

Why can't the bluetooth settings be reverted?

Because it makes more sense for the indicator to be next to the thing you are looking at. Lots of people never saw the banner at the top.

The way the Bluetooth toggle works now is perfect.

It makes no sense for the touch target to be so small and for it to be intermittent.

How can you not see a large banner appearing at the top of the screen?

There are MUCH better ways to have implemented this. a) Option to turn the banner back on. b) Banner and indicator next to QR code.

The way the Bluetooth toggle works now is perfect.

Yes I love when what used to be a quick process now involves having to go into settings every time.

What do you mean? I can turn wi-fi and BT on/off in the control centre, with or without airplane mode turned on.

Airplane mode off:

Any combination works, right from the control centre.

Airplane mode off

You can't turn Bluetooth fully off - you can only 'disconnect from devices till tomorrow' and turning aeroplane mode on in either control centre or settings leaves bluetooth on, you've got to manually switch it off.

I've attached a screen recording of my 12 Mini on iOS 15 and my 6S on iOS 14.8 to show the difference.

Airplane mode remembers the last bluetooth setting. With bluetooth enabled, turn on airplane mode then turn off bluetooth in settings. Now turn off airplane mode......bluetooth should now turn off and on as you enable and disable airplane mode.

Not anymore. In iOS 15 deactivating the airplane mode seems to reactivate both wi-fi and BT, regardless of their previous status. It doesn't bother me, but I agree it's not the most logical behaviour.

Not on my iPad running iOS 15. If I leave bluetooth turned off when I disable airplane mode then it remembers the setting next time.

Edit: It even remembers after a power cycle.

Then it's probably just a glitch in iOS 15, and not the intended behaviour. We'll see if they fix it in the next update.
iOS and iPadOS are two different entities now, which explains why your iPad behaves differently.

I see. Yeah, I guess it would be a bit more logical if it remembered whatever status the wi-fi and BT happen to have had previously. But frankly, I don't see it as such a big deal. I wouldn't even have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out.
It's very frustrating for me. I like to turn off bluetooth at night. Also for people who fly, the fact that bluetooth doesn't turn off with aeroplane mode isn't good since bluetooth is meant to be off when flying.

Would just be logical if it allowed say a long press to turn Bluetooth off completely.

I'll install it on my iPhone later and post back.

It's doing that for me now - but still its frustrating. If I turn bluetooth back on in control centre, I've got to go to settings to turn it back off.

At the moment, I have very little reception at home. So I am putting on Aeroplane mode frequently, and then turning bluetooth and wifi back on. Then when I go to bed, I turn wifi and bluetooth off. Now that involves going into settings for something that was simply doable in control centre before.

You shouldn’t be disabling WiFi and Bluetooth. They barely use any juice anyway.

Further more, you might argue that taping the notification in the center of your screen is far easier to do one handed than tapping a banner way at the top. Most iPhones are too big to reach the banner.

Who are you to say what I should or shouldn't be disabling? Wifi and Bluetooth use battery power, and I like them off at night.

if the notification in the centre of the screen was a) big enough and b) persistent, then yeah it would probably be easier to do. As it stands, it's hopeless.

I bet you close all your apps when you’re done with them too.
