Does this actually mean that ppl are given the option of “breaking through” your DND(?)

Just long press on either wifi or bluetooth and you can go straight into their settings, it is not that difficult.
Again, a simple two step process is turned into a much longer one. Three taps in iOS 14. Six taps + unlocking device in iOs 15.

The whole point of control centre is to avoid going into settings.

I agree, both of these changes are... perplexing.
With the bluetooth - off should be off.
It is possible it has to do with the Find My network. Leaving it on minimally in the background means it still can detect other items like the Airtags.

There are three things in iOS 15 which are really annoying for me…

1. Firstly when setting alarms they have reverted back to the scroll wheel, it takes so much longer than just typing it in.

It’s not quite as good as it was but if you tap on that wheel in the middle the option to type in the time reappears

Why does Apple INSIST on removing features and changing to worse versions of features?

After taking away the ability to easily turn off Wifi and Bluetooth in control centre back in iOS 11, they left the ability to switch them off in control centre if Aeroplane mode was enabled. Now you can't switch bluetooth off at all without going to settings which is bloody annoying.

Then today I was out the first time since iOS 15 came out (I'm currently in lockdown) so needed to check in with a QR code and in iOS 14, when you scanned a QR code in camera, you got a lovely big easily tappable notification/banner with the URL. Now, you get a stupid tiny popup with a fiddly touch target, which disappears as soon as the QR code goes out of focus. WHY APPLE? WHY??

When you're carrying things and using your phone one handed and checking in to multiple places, it's extremely clumsy to use this new method.
”Hey Siri! Turn off bluetooth.” ”Hey Siri! Turn on bluetooth.” … same for “wifi” 🤓🥳

When using my Bluetooth keyboard on iPad OS 15 I now have this hovering keyboard icon at all times in the bottom corner of the screen. It blocks the navigation on the app that I primarily use Bluetooth keyboard with and defaults to the bottom right corner every time the keyboard appears, meaning I have to swipe it out of the way every time I need to navigate.
Anyone have a solution for this? Does this floating keyboard exist with the Magic Keyboard as well? I’m using a 3rd party one.

You shouldn’t be disabling WiFi and Bluetooth. They barely use any juice anyway.

Further more, you might argue that taping the notification in the center of your screen is far easier to do one handed than tapping a banner way at the top. Most iPhones are too big to reach the banner.

Wi-Fi uses more battery than 3G cellular data

Except the majority of the time I'm doing this bedtime when everyone else is asleep so I don't want to wake people up with Siri.

I got one. You used to be able to choose the volume of the spoken directions in Maps. You could make it so the voice doesn't duck the music that's playing. Now they've removed all that. Why? Who is putting effort into regressive changes instead of making sure the rest of the crap works right?
They didn't remove the ability to completely silence directions did they? That would be an absolutely awful change.

well… you can actually whisper to Siri and it will turn them off 😎

It's still a clunkier way of doing things.

Hold button in to active Siri. Wisper 'Turn on aeroplane mode'. Wait for Siri. Press button again, Whisper 'turn off wifi'. Press button again, Whisper 'turn off bluetooth'.

As apposed to swipe down, tap aeroplane mode, tap wifi, tap bluetooth. Done.

Omg this is one of those ‘I was today years old’ situations, thanks so much for this 👍👍👍👍😂😂😂😂

Did it do this when we had scroll wheels previously??? Please tell me it didn’t as I have waisted precious minutes of my life lol

My understanding is for taking off and landing bluetooth is meant to be disabled. Why else has every other version of iOS up to this point disabled bluetooth when Aeroplane mode is turned on?
Regulations have changed over the years for in-flight electronics.

At first anything with a radio had to have the radio completely off when flying, even receivers. The FAA wasn't sure if consumer electronics could interfere with airplane systems, so better safe than sorry. Airplane mode disabled ALL radios, even GPS which is receive-only.

As the years went on and personal electronics proliferated, the demand to use them on the plane went up, so more research was done. Eventually it was found that Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS radios do not interfere with aircraft systems, so they were allowed in the cruise phase of flight. You were still not allowed to use the devices during takeoff and landing though, out of extreme caution since these are the most critical phases of flight where something going wrong can more easily cause an accident.

At this time Apple and other manufacturers modified airplane mode to not switch WiFi and Bluetooth off by default. Cellular radios still must be off during flight, but this is more to prevent problems with cellular networks than possible interference with the plane.

A few years after that the rules were relaxed further, and now you can use electronics during all phases of flight. It was found that there's no risk to aircraft systems, and on top of that, newer aircraft are even better shielded from interference. Use and enjoy your bluetooth devices and in-flight WiFi all you want. Airplane mode only needs to disable the cellular radios now.

Just as it is objectively more difficult to check in with a QR code now.
Try using the actual QR code scanner rather than the camera app. It automatically opens the URL without having to tap anything. You can find it in Control Centre, though you may have to add it through settings if it isn't already there.

No but now it’s all or nothing. I liked having the voice but without ducking the music.

So once in a while you have to go into settings when you’re flying. Wooo. Crazy.
You have obviously decided to miss the point... adding steps to an essential progress is a retrograde step. Not progress.
Whether YOU use it once in a blue moon or not is irrelevant. Others need it more often & for no explicable, logical or sensible reason a once simple, one-touch process now requires multiple steps.
That's just stupid.
