I've noticed there's been a huge amount of iPad-like devices since it was released. I personally think they are stupid. My iPad is perfect for me. Perfect weight, perfect display size, perfect battery life, and it will be even better when iOS 4.2 comes out. What do you think about these other tablets? (such as the Galaxy tab or whatever)

Great to hear that you view the iPad as perfect.

Meaning for you it could not be any better.

When we all have our iPad v3, we shall have to check up with you as you won't have upgraded as there will be no need as the current model is perfect :)

Or course you won't upgrade, as if you do then you would be that action saying the iPad you currently own is not perfect as the new one will be even better than perfect and as we all know that's not possible :)

I think 90% of the iPad's success is its Software, something that can't be imitated that easily.

Wrong, wrong, and more wrong. Where have you been for the last few months? You are aware that there are countries that have been able to sell the iPad yet right? Stop with the creative, non-factual speculation.

Non-factual? Really? You are wrong, wrong and more wrong.

Release date for Europe is October 11th, with pre-orders on Vodaphone for the UK as of today. No release date confirmed for the U.S. or pricing. Pretty easy to check this online. There is this search site called Google. You might want to check it out. Welcome to the internet.

Agreed.

Most normal people are not going to buy something just because of it's construction.

If the software is poor it does not matter how great something is made.

And if the software is brilliant it does not matter how well it's put together.

the Xbox360 is THE worldwide top leading console, yet I don't think anyone is holding it up for any construction awards. It's just a container.

The Tablet sectors inherent attractiveness is its portability.

The lighter the device the longer you carry it with you thus enhance its portability.

A 10" device the size and weight of an iPad isnt going to last long enough, especially carrying it with one hand.

The Galaxy Tab, for example, weights only 380 grams.

The iPad, in comparison, weight 680 - 730 grams.

Alarms bells are sounding inside Steve's lab.

The iPod Nano only weighs a few ounces! Its the best tablet EVER!

Guys, this isn't 1999 anymore. Specs aren't the main selling factor. It's EXPERIENCE. The Galaxy Tab could have dual 10MP cameras, 4GB of RAM, 3GHz CPU, the fastest GPU on the market, and a retina quality screen, but it would still fail miserably because of it's experience and GUI qualities.

You get it..... Sadly others don't. This is the Nokia syndrome. Nokia can make great phones with super hardware but they lose in the end because of the user experience.

A lot of them may be able to get close and add in features the iPad doesn't have, but a lot of them won't get 10 hours of battery life or the easy to use OS. By the time competitors get even close, Apple will introduce the next iPad.

Apple's iPad isnt Jesus.

That my friend, is a lie. As far is I know, the iPad can perform magic tricks just like Jesus.

See what I did there?

Maybe I will, maybe I won't. I am personally happy with it. Will I upgrade to iOS 4 ? You bet I will. Do I wish Numbers played better with Excel ? Of course. Do I let it bother me? No. (I still have to lug a laptop around anyway, so when I need to use Excel, I use Excel). I dwell on how convenient the iPad is and it's strong points.

Okay Mr High schooler and Mr Middle schooler, please explain competition and how it affects Apple in their decision making. Here let me help you. It doesn't. Apple does what it does regardless of what the competition does. How many millions of craptacular net books have been sold ? Apple didn't even enter the market. Android is trying to get flash to run half assed on there devices. Does Apple care ? Replacable batteries, SD slots, USB ports, ... Do they care ? Do they try to copy them ? Do they still sell millions of devices ? Will they continue to sell millions? They will continue to improve, no matter what 'competition' is available. And they don't care if someone else sells more of something, they only care that their device works better.

Lol... his point was that even a high school kid knows what competition is which I corrected as even a middle schooler knows what comp... is. Anyways, the basic point is that if there is a device better than the iPad and the general population begins to lean towards that, then Apple is bound to introduce some other [new] features as well as a price drop in order to not lose their market share; the chance is unlikely as Apple is quite big and many people [esp. on this forum as it's mainly on Apple] are Apple fanboys and won't opt for anything else. At the same time, Apple actually did enter the netbook market in order to kill it with something more efficient [iPad] and less bulky. This can easily turn into an argument however the device was meant for browsing internet and etc... not to replace one's laptop; keep your eyes open and you'll see that Apple won't implement a USB port or SD card into the iPad [they may if they make a touch version of the OS X]; it's marketing really... except it's more like marketing 401 than 101.

But my point is that Apple won't let the compition dictate what they do with the iPad. And even without compition the iPad will evolve. I know they will not implement USB or sd slots on their devices, even if the compition does. They are not needed. I really don't think Apple cares about market share, but that they make superior products that have a good user experience, while keeping the share holders happy. (Steve has said that they make products that he enjoys, and he hopes we do too.)

I won't argue your net book point. I have played with other peoples net books, and I was unimpressed. I even tried loading some of my automation software on it (net book), the screens are to small and the performance is less than craptacular. I need Windows :(, so I never expected the iPad to replace my laptop, but for after hours use, it can't be beat. ( I also have some technical pubs on my iPad, so it is not just for after hours).

Obviously, you aren't aware of the history how Apple drove iPhone/Touch users crazy by not implementing some of the very basic features during the pre-Android era.

Apple is your religion and Jobs is your god. Either that, or you're really naive or young, or both.

Don't you prove his point, though?

If they drove them crazy that means they did what they wanted, and paid no mind to the competition, yes? :)

What makes you think history will not repeat itself with the iPad? iPod Touch sales have been robust to say the least through it all...

Yeah, Apple really must driven those users crazy about missing features while selling tens of millions of the devices. Gee, how stupid Apple must be.

Comments based in reality would be really nice. Like you know what exactly was it that Android forced Apple to do? Or how doing that saved them from failure?

Okay. Change to "…just cheap copies that cost even more." ;)

I'd give some consideration to the competition. Sure, China is churning out tons of cheap iPad look-alikes and Android tablets. Whether these devices hold a candle next to the iPad remains to be seen. These tablets hold little interest for me, except for the fact they are hackable and dirt cheap.

These current Android tablets appeal to users based primarily on price and for some the fact they are "not Apple". I've seen a couple of these devices. They are crap. Fun to tinker and play with, nothing wrong with that, but I prefer my (non-jailbroken) iPad for more serious usage.

The major manufacturers like Sony, Samsung, and others have or will bring out much better quality devices at higher prices. The NVIDIA Tegra-based tablets as well. These are the ones to watch out for, but if they cannot come up with at least an equivalent to the iPad at an equal or better price, they will most likely fail.

I am looking forward to the notion ink Adam. If/when it gets released I will sell my iPad or maybe keep it only for development purposes.

Well go buy your Archos... And then beg for help getting a file to install so you can break into the Android store on the Archos forums. But hey you will have an SD slot and will have saved a few hundred bucks. (save a lot of money on apps too...)

I am truly amazed at the Steve Jobs cult members and their blind following. Hopefully some years from now you will reread your posts, and laugh at how ridiculous they sound.

Calling an iPad perfect, and ridiculing anything else just because it is not an Apple product is actually funny. I'm certainly not worthy, as we only have 3 Macs and 2 iPads, but... <GASP>... I find my Nexus One phone to be more interesting that my wife's iPhone 4, and I see many iPad's shortcomings, which I hope are either remedied by iPad 2, or by an Android tablet.

You see, a blind trust in a person or company creates quite a problem. This is what happened when businesses blindly embraced MS Windows as their product of choice, and Microsoft came out with "gems" such as Windows ME or Vista. I have been an Apple fan since Apple II, but I can certainly see that they are getting too big and cocky for their own good. What was once the underdog is now the main player, and I don't like it, because Apple has become quite arrogant, and that's bad for the consumer.

This sounds like a young post. There should be an age limit.

The ipads short comings would be ?

Please don't say doesn't have a camera because you were told before it came out that it didn't have camera. Don't say flash, because when it came out , Andriod didn't do flash, and while it is starting to, when it does, it does it poorly. Flash sucks, I even removed it from my Winblows laptop. BTW dont mention anything that it was not advertised to do. You can't have nine pages open in Safari without a refresh... Okay, ya got me there. Big deal. I NEVER have that many pages open at a time on my laptop or desktop so why would I care? Can any other tablet do that?

What people are sick of are being called iSheep, or being told to drink the cool aide by those Droid fanboys who make references to products that don't exist or features that aren't available on their platform. Archos tablets ? Come on, I have read the reviews. You can't even use the Android marketplace. Sure you can down load a file to hack your device, but out of 101 Archos forum post I read, 100 were complaining they couldn't get it to work. How many people have problems getting stuff from iTunes?

Now, in all fairness I am an iPod Nano fan and WAS looking forward to upgrading my 3rd gen Nano. Key word there is was. They screwed that one up.

Edit: Almost forgot, Excel compatability. How good is the compition with that?

How many dozens of "serious" iPhone killers did we see in the last three years? Two? Three? The first and classic # one of them, the Nexus, was buried some weeks ago without any pomp and circumstances. Sorry for the people who payed money for that Google crap.

I am afraid we will see similar things with the iPad and it's "killers". Apple has landed another monopoly for those who want a very good and stylish device that is worth each cent.

I too would like to see some serious competitors, but there aren't any. Just cheap copies.

The first classic popular phone that was supposed to be the iPhone killer was the blackberry storm. That one was 100x worst than the nexus.
