I have it. PM me with your email address and I'll attach it to an email. The ZIP file is only 135 kb.

Edit: Ah, it looks as though you're too new for PMs. Do you have a disposable or junk email address you could post publicly?

Hi, I just upgraded my MP1.1, put 2 x X5355 SLAEG CPUS in, need this firmware flasher, the Netkas site has been down now for quite some time, I think the DNS record for it has been trashed or something.

Could somebody please point me in the direction of a location to download the netkas flashing tool to take me up to firmware 2.1

Many thanks
Moonscresta

I bought a Mac Pro 1,1 with the 5150 Xeons (2.66GHz) I took the computer completely apart and cleaned every piece of it. I have 9GB of ram installed, and plan to upgrade the CPUs to the X5365 quad core processors. From what I understand, it will shows as Unknown, but since I ran the firmware updater (so it is a Mac Pro 2,1 now) they will show up correctly? Right?

Such a cool machine. I've always wanted a professional Mac Desktop. After getting a PowerMac G5 in great shape for free, I decided to buy a Mac Pro.

Ive been following this thread a lot, scored a pair of 5335's for 50 bucks ordered all the supplies via amazon prime and will be doing the upgrade this weekend. Im excited.

I thought I could afford the new mac pro 2013 but decided it was a foolish money choice.

so Im going from a

mac pro dual core 2.66
6GB RAM
1GB video card

to
2.66 Quad Core
20GB RAM
1GB Video Card ( I really want to find a card to flash thats at least 2GB)
USB 3.0 Sata
SSD Sata Boot Drive

most likely Mavericks, Im still following that thread.

I'm hoping you've made a typing error, because 5335s are 2.0ghz

yea typo, I was at work so I was typing pretty damn fast. I just swapped them and went from a geek bence score of 4900 to 10,200 not bad. Now Im looking for that overclocking mod.

I'm thinking that is the BESL mod if my memory serves me and a quick Google search seems to confirm that it does. You short a couple of pins on the cpu to raise the FSB it runs at looks like your ripping it part again to get it done.

I have been reading many success stories from people upgrading their processors in their 1,1 MP. From 2x dual core to 2 x quad core.

So I bought a pair of X5355s to do the upgrade on my 2006 1,1.

However, I realise that all the reports I've read are from people who's processors are 2.66GHz and are replacing with the same speed.

My processors are 2.0GHz.

Can anyone assure me that the upgrade will work? I found an old email to a company I asked about it and they said it was not possible due to the limitations of my Main Logic Board. Is this true or are they mistaken?
If it's true I've wasted my money but I'm hoping they were wrong.

Has anyone done the same upgrade?

Thanks

It shouldn't make a difference;

I know of some who have gone from 5150's (2.66GHz) to X5365's (3.00GHz).

Yes, the X5355 will work in your MP 2006 1,1.

I have done the same upgrade a few years back.

I just did the upgrade successfully and everything is cool. I loaded a Logic project with lots of plugins and got no 'system overload' messages. Yippee! Thanks to all for your help.
One question.
Is the firmware update necessary? All seems to work ok. I did register with netkas org to get the tool but they haven't accepted me yet.

Curious about that firmware update too. I registered there a week ago and still not approved. I'm upgrading my MP 1,1 with X5365's a SSD and 22GB's of ram. Hope it'll give me at least 3 more years of reliable Mac power :D

I'd like to get that firmware 1,1 to 2,1 tool
