I also like the small form factor of this one: http://www.satechi.net/index.php/sa...orts-space-gray#product_tabs_customer-reviews

Any clue whether they would be able to charge the new rMBP? (i.e. enough power throughput?)
Tbh, I personally liked it as well. But then if charging, USB and HDMI is all I want, I am better off with the Apple Dongle. Not sure about the charging thing though. Good thing about having the macbook pro is you can charge it on other ports and dedicate one port just for this dongle.

I know, after all the tests and researches, looks like caldigit one is the cheapest and best USB-C hub or dock for MacBook type-c users. the main key point is the self powered and stable laptop charging, others are completely wrong design from the getgo. check this out http://crazydiamondstar.blogspot.com/2016/02/intermittent-drop-out-usb-thunderbolt.html
I'm new at this "dongles thing" so I don't have much idea... A question. The new Macbook pro 15" has 4 USB-C, so if I want to connect 2 HDD with USB 3.0, is there a problem if I use a USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter for each one? So each HDD would be connected to diferent ports, not a Hub with manny ports. Would that work if is no self powered? And at the same time I connect an HDMI to USB-C in another port?

I don't know if the only problem with the not selfpowered hubs is that they don't work with too manny thing connected, but if each "accesory" is connected to a different port I guess it shouldn't be any problem since this is what we usually do with any other laptoo but without dongles. I would charge the MBP directly to another individual USB-C, not through any hub.

Hope I made myself clear, english is not my main language ^^

Having now two main products with just USB-C it sounds a little bit strange that the only viable options on the market are the Apple dongle, the Hootoo one and the Caldigit dock.

Cross Hootoo off that list.....misbehaves if trying to use more than one USB port at same time, e.g. copying between two connected Samsung T3 drives.

So I just ordered the new MacBook Pro 13 inch Base line. And I am now looking for Hubs. Hotoo seems to be right up my alley, as it offers all I need (HDMI, Card Reader and USB ports). There are mixed reviews here, but from what I can tell, most people have faced problem when connecting multiple device and transferring data between them. SD Card to External SSD or between two External HDD. Though I do plan to connect both an SD card and external HDD to the hub, I doubt i would do it at the same time.
So in case if a person is looking to connect only one device at a time (SD card or External HDD). And ofcourse connect a USB mouse every so often, is this a good option. Also what about the HDMI port, again mixed reviews. Anyone who has had the Hooto HT-UC001B Shuttle USB 3.1 for a while, would care sharing their views

I like some of the adapters I've seen, particular:

http://www.satechi.net/index.php/sa...-micro-card-reader-3-usb-3-0-ports-silver-601

Or even just:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XU6PM6...17145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B00XU6PM68

But, what I'd like is something with more than one USB C inputs. Everything I can find seems to have at most one. I'd like one for charging and at least one more for connecting additional devices. Is there anything out there with more than one? Also I do not necessarily need all the other ports like HDMI or Ethernet, although I don't mind having them just in case.

Just received Satechi's Type -C Multiport Adapter (two USB-A ports, 1 USB-C port, 1 HDMI port) and Satechi's Type-C + USB 3.0 USB card reader, which works with both SD and Micro-SD slots.... Haven't yet tried either of them out yet in my rMB but am looking forward to doing that tomorrow. The Multiport Adapter is slimmer than Apple's similar adapter, plus it has 2 USB-A ports as opposed to Apple's one. This device will be ideal for travel, as will the tiny little card reader. As far as having a second USB-C port, I don't think I'll find that an issue since I can already directly plug in a couple of my devices with a USB-C cable. The only hitch might be not being able to have the computer charging at the same time.....which is something I can do when using USB-A ports on the device. Since I have other computers in the household for the heavy lifting anyway, this isn't really a big concern; it is just nice to have adapters on hand when needed for specific uses.

I suspect that now that Apple has released their MacBook Pro line with USB-C ports that we will soon see a whole lot more products coming out from various manufacturers: hubs, adapters, etc.....

The Satechi has worked well for me, but I've ended up buying the Apple adapter too so I have one at home which allows me to "dock" the Macbook to my monitor and get all the ports i need between that and the cable. The more I thought about how i use my laptop when on the move I realised the one thing I should carry is one of those adapters so I picked up an Apple one too.

I also bought a spare USB-C charger and just assumed wrongly that they would include a USB-C charging cable... How wrong I was!

Not for a new MBP, but a rMB and all work perfectly:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EL4PVFE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B017L3TR8E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01ANITHVQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The USB adapters are great value, and I've got them stuck on a Lightening charge cable and USB3 memory stick. Cable connected a USB3 HDD previously with a USB-A cable at one end. Not planning on using the Minix as a hub, but more a multi-purpose adapter which will more likely be used for 1 thing at once, but has been faultless like this.

Wow... what? I wanted to buy Apple's own usb-c adapters because I figured they would be more reliable over time.

The usb-a port on every single one of their adapters is usb 2.0.

Is this a joke? I really hope I'm missing something.

This is wrong. The Apple single and multi ones are 3,1. Posting this on my phone in a hurry so can't post links.

Please do post links.

They don't advertise it as usb 3.0/3.1 on their own site and it's specified as usb 2.0 on Amazon.

Extraordinary that the store page doesn't say they are USB 3.1, although the Apple Store iOS app does.

Can't see on the Amazon UK pages that it says USB 2...if they do they are wrong. I own both adapters and have tested them with SSD drives and got over 400MB/s

Thank god. I would have been seriously disappointed.

What a convoluted place to put that information.

Today turned out to be a busy one and I still haven't had time to play with my new Satechi adapter......one thing I'm wondering is if it does or does not work with the Apple SuperDrive? No matter if it doesn't since I do also have the Apple adapter which DOES work with it, but I'm just curious. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have some time to experiment with things.
