I mentioned this on another thread, but the new MBP has reduced the number of connections I need to use when at home and "docked" with the AV adapter. The Dell has a few USB ports built-in, so it means when I'm working from home I just need to plug in the adapter and my speakers. With my previous MBA and Thunderbolt Display there were three connections from that and the speakers.

Did you try the Dell DA200 with the new rMBP?

i have the base late 2016 Macbook Pro. All I need is a USB C hub with 2-3 USB ports, one of which I need to recognize my external HDD. Has anyone tried the HooToo shuttle? I don't need the card reader or HDMI output. Thanks.

A lot of people use the HooToo USB-C hub.. on the internet you can find a lot of reviews :)

The only problem with all these hubs is that the power output is limited, so you can't connect several HDDs powered only via USB without connect an USB-C input cable into the USB-C Hub

[doublepost=1478867827][/doublepost]Thanks. I only have one external HDD to attach. Reviews I read were mainly people who had not used on new 2016 MacBook Pro. Just don't want to fry my nice new laptop.

I watched some videos on YouTube where the HooToo Hub was used with the 13 inch new MacBook Pro w/o TouchBar.

I think that between the latest reviews on Amazon.com you should find other confirmations..
Yesterday I read there about the compatibility of the Dell DA200 that I bought some days ago for the new Mac, but it doesn't fit what that you need !

yes, hootoo or other similar bus powered usb-c hubs are having the same design problem. see the reason here

try to get a reliable wall powered hub or dock like CalDigit or OWC USB-C dock.

43% of the reviews on your link are 1 star.....probably says all you need to know.

I have tried four small (as oppposed to big ones like Caldigit and OWC)...Minix, Hootoo, Anker and Apple's multi.

They are all pass through charging, and first three have two or three USB-A ports. Apple only has one. However none of the first three enable data transfer between two connected drives, so they have all been returned. I only have the Apple one which works flawlessly but only has the one port, so can't transfer data between two connected drives, which I have to do on my other mac.

I have seen articles where at least the large Caldigit does support multi drive connection.

Another vote for the CalDigit though I really wish I could drive 2 monitors simultaneously under MacOS (I can under Windows on my Bootcamp partition). Seems to be a MacOS limitation.

My big vote for CalDigit's USB-C dock. It works for MacBook and MacBook Pro 2016. The best thing I like is the SuperDrive support. It has 3 usb 3 ports and a DP port as you wish. See the review here. The guy was testing it with MacBook and MacBook pro TB3 model.

Price is very reasonable too compare to other type-c charging dock.

1 x USB-C
2 x USB-A

Micro SD card sot

This is one, but it's not actually available yet:

https://www.bourgedesign.com/pre-order

EDIT: Oh, sorry, doesn't have the micro-SD slot, would need an adapter :)
[doublepost=1479281563][/doublepost]Actually, this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FWT7MEK/

From the Q&A it appears this can only pass through 49W, well under what the new Macbook Pro can draw for charging, which basically means plug the MBP directly into its charger and don't use the charge-through feature of this adapter.

Keep it in mind, you can not power up two USB-A 3.0 ports if the adapter is in bus powered mode. You should use a full desktop dock like CalDigit's USB-C dock or OWC's dock if you need multiple USB-A ports.

Either would be great, that's exactly what I'm looking for thanks! I have the retina MacBook so it's well below the 49W limit

Question - what's the deal with the 4k @30Hz? Is there anyway around it or is that a hardware limitation in the adapter?

Thanks for the heads up, could you elaborate? Is that only if the charger isn't plugged into the adapter? And would it be the case that they'd act as USB 2.0 or just one would work?

Please excuse my ignorance

My experience is that the cheaper smaller ones (like Hootoo, Minix and Anker that I have tried) will not fully power two USB-A ports even when the hub is connected to the wall power. May be OK for some tasks but certainly not transferring data between two connected drives. From all that I have read, the much larger OWC and Caldigit hubs do fully power all the ports.

Peter, what Mike said was right. You can not drive two external USB drives without an external power supply to the dongle or dock. Even some pass through dongles can be plugged in apple's type-c charger, they do not draw power from charger, they might still draw power from the computer.

The insufficient power to the USB-A ports will cause potential data lost in a long run. see more details
http://crazydiamondstar.blogspot.com/2016/02/intermittent-drop-out-usb-thunderbolt.html

Look at Apple's dongle, they only put 1x USB-A, 1x HDMI, 1x pass through charging port. They do not do two USB-A ports. I think that's the reason.

If you want more than one USB-A port, you must use CalDigit's USB-D dock, or connect a wall powered hub to the MacBook.

What I actually said was that all three of those small hubs will not drive two external usb drives even WITH the external power supply connected.
