Next year I guarantee that people will be saying “My 14 Pro camera, battery is better that the 15 Pro camera and battery so I’m returning the 15 Pro and keeping my glorious 14 Pro.”

Thinking you need to upgrade from the 14 to the 15 is the core issue here.

I agree with most people, that many claim to return but never do, they want those internet points. Funny enough I’m one who had never returned (nor ever claimed I would) while changing phones at least once a year. I even said I wasn’t returning my 14 PM. Yesterday, the first time ever I returned my a phone, 14PM and went back to my 13PM. It’s a weird feeling not having the newest but I’m trying to learn. The only upgrades for me was slight signal boost and dynamic island, which isn’t that useful. I’ll watch updates closely and if things change I’ll repurchase. I don’t take many pictures so the camera didn’t matter and i don’t use AOD ever.

I have a friend who loves Apple but doesn’t take pictures. So he waits for a feature that will kind of wow him. I love taking photos so I’ll take any camera upgrade they’ll give me.

I keep pulling my 12 mini out and comparing it to my 14 Pro. I keep getting to that point where I’d like to stick with it and return my 14 Pro. I just like everything about the little guy.

But, then I think about all those 14 Pro features I’d miss. I just feel like if I returned it, I’d want to buy it again. I’m not hurting for money, but wouldn’t mind throwing the $1000+ I spent on the 14 Pro into savings or something. My partner got a 14 Pro too, I suppose I can always use hers if I need to take a macro shot or play with a new feature or something.

Edit: Was doing the same tasks side by side on both phones. The 12 mini battery dropped 20% while the 14 Pro stayed the same for the 10-15 minutes or so. Granted, the 12 mini battery definitely needs to be replaced, but it sort of helps solidify the decision in keeping the 14 Pro

Honestly the battery wasn’t a big issue for me since I’m either home near a charger or in my car for an hour if I leave home, but I’ve been shocked at how little I’ve had to put the 14 pro on the charger.

The whole concept or question of “Is it worth it to upgrade? Just doesn’t fly with me.
If a person wants to get the latest iPhone then get it. If you have 13 Pro and want a 14 Pro get it. If you get it and want to return it do that.

People really feel the need to justify a purchase and look for internet validation of the purchase or validation that the purchase is crap and “I’m returning it.” A lot of it is the remorse of spending the money. I understand that. I’ve had buyers remorse for many things.

People stress over the camera upgrade. “Is the 14 Pro camera better than the 13 Pro? Let me test it.”

People really need to convince themselves that if they can prove a feature in the previous model is just as good or better than the current model then they should return it, not get it or better yet you shouldn’t get it.

It’s the same song every year. The only thing that changes is the iPhone number.

Next year I guarantee that people will be saying “My 14 Pro camera, battery is better that the 15 Pro camera and battery so I’m returning the 15 Pro and keeping my glorious 14 Pro.”

Well said.

So, in other words, people post opinions and feelings on the internet.

Damn, who knew?

It's the same every year. A lot of people get caught up in the forum hype and fever and order a new phone. And when it arrives, many are disappointed that reality of what they already knew before the order, is still reality.
But I thought the iPhone 14 Pro Max was supposed to come with a new girlfriend and a promotion. I thought that every time I unlocked the phone I would experience indescribable pleasure and a sense of fulfillment in life. Turns out, that’s not true! That’s why I returned mine.

/s

The only thing I returned is the iPhone 13 Pro Max for trade in credit towards the 14 Pro Max :).

I upgrade every year and every year I hit that moment when I’ve tried out every feature and setting that I know about. I might have a brief moment where I want more, but for me I’ve learned that often comes later. Like with the 14 Pro Max I keep having moments where the screen looks exceptionally bright and sharp. I know I’ll have pictures down the road that will really strike me for their color and clarity. For me it just takes awhile to appreciate all of the upgrades.

So I have to admit, I’ve been surprised by the number of posts where people return their iPhone. To be honest, I have never returned an iPhone and actually I never even thought about it. I’m a big geek who likes to read up on everything before I buy it so I’ve never been so surprised by anything on my new iPhone that would make me want to return it.

I thought it would be an interesting poll to see what are the major causes of returns. You can select all that apply to you. This can be a return of any iPhone not just the new one.
Should have had an option of “returning iPhone “ and replacing due to defects or such ? Just an idea. 👍🏼

Yeah I thought about that. In my head that was an exchange and a different beast. I was trying to capture the pure return because of something they didn’t like. Appreciate the suggestion

I’ve bought the new model every year since the 6 ( 6, 6s, 7 Plus, X, Xs, 11 Pro Max, 12 Pro Max, 13 Pro, 14 Pro ) and this is the first time I’ve returned a phone. The battery life on the 14 Pro left a lot to be desired. I was finding myself needing to top up before the end of the day. My 13 Pro can go from 7 AM to midnight and still have 20%-30% in the tank. Perhaps if they correct whatever is draining them so rapidly I’ll pick up another one, but not right now. Unacceptable IMO.

Only time I returned an iPhone was when I went in to upgrade my 5s to a 6s Plus. I ended up with a 6 Plus instead and somehow didn’t realize it till I left the store. I realized it later, and they (US Cellular) let me return it without using my one 15 day exchange.

There are always hyperventilating posts every new release. You could just recycle the headlines.

Guess Apple stopped innovating!
How underwhelming!
I’m already bored!
Steve Jobs wouldn’t have allowed this!

All in alternative caps and lowercase.

It’s every single release on the forum.

Something else to consider is that more often than not, people go online to rant, complain and vent rather than to praise and rave.

This is why I find it difficult sometimes to research new purchases. On one end, you have people who are absolutely head over heels in love with the thing, whether it's genuine appreciation, a paid review or - like someone said earlier - a positive review meant to ensure they don't fall in the brand's bad graces. On the other end, you have the ranters and complainers who can't help but dial up the negativity. The most nuanced reviews tend to pop up well into a product's life cycle.

My nephew who is a total fanboy returned his iPhone 14 Pro because of battery life. He was disappointed to have to return it, but there was something definitely wrong according to him. But to me I would definitely expect someone to return an iPhone if it’s not working correctly. It’s not like you said the purple wasn’t purple enough for your liking.

Took back my 14PM because the cell coverage was way worse than my 13P. I loved the size upgrade and AOD but man the coverage sucked.

I returned an 8 Plus that was poorly assembled to the point the lightning port didn’t work properly. The whole phone from display to frame was visibly crooked and was like nothing I’ve seen before or since, quality control wise from Apple.

I returned an X whose display was giving me serious eye strain. The text appeared to be twitching nonstop. That’s when I learned about pwm, pulse width modulation and its insidious effects on the nervous system of some of us sensitive to it. Edit: I forgot I returned an XS Max whose pwm rate caused a seizure migraine.

Then the year the iPhone 12 series was released I struggled to find one that was ergonomically comfortable and that had a display with a pwm rate compatible with my migraine condition. I’m not usually so indecisive once I’ve made my purchase, but that year they changed the design enough that it took me by surprise the ergonomic issues I would have with the various sizes and weights. And as always, my sensitivity to pwm often complicates my ability to adjust to a new OLED display.

I finally settled comfortably on a 12 mini and a 12 pro max. Both had defective displays showing greens in place of blacks, but I did not return them. I tolerated the issues, knowing I would trade them in eventually.

My 13 Pro had a somewhat wonky camera with focusing issues that I didn’t get addressed because the display was causing me headaches. I set it aside and used a free XR from AT&T until I was gifted an iPhone 11. I am trading the 13 Pro back to Apple today.

14 Pro Max is a keeper for me this year. I am very pleased with it so far. I’m ridiculously pleased with the deep purple color, too.

Well this is the reason why I am happy with the mini. I’ve never run out of battery since I’m always near a charger. So it’s not a big deal to have a shorter battery life. What I do notice is the size which is I don’t notice the size of the phone. I just like the not noticing my phone.

I have a iPad mini 6 and 11 iPad pro so those are my big displays if ever.

I returned a Switch game, an Amiibo and a case today.
Wow I honestly can't remember the last thing I returned. I'm sure it was something from Amazon, but it's been a while. Only cell I ever returned was the Samsung Mythic. It was so horribly unresponsive.

I tested and returned a google pixel 6. It was really really nice phone. And android has come a long way. Excellent battery life. Awesome camera. Awesome screen. It even has this picture editing that lets you delete people in the background of pictures. The system detects the people and you choose chose the figures of people to delete. I
