Every year, like clockwork, as surely as the sun rises in the east... there will be a number of vocal people here who will not just return a phone, but several.

These folks usually obsess over some imagined imperfection before returning their phone 2-3 times, sometimes even more. Often it is the same individuals year after year. I have to believe it is some kind of mental condition, because nobody can be that unlucky.

After all the hype, have you thought about returning your phone or have already returned your phone going back to what you originally had? (what is it if you did)

After some use, I’ve come to terms that emergency sos and crash detection is an insurance policy, the dynamic island is nice but isn’t the greatest thing necessarily, the always in display is just a battery drain so it is better left off, and the cameras… reading that camera comparison post it doesn’t make much of a difference when pixel binned…

Is it wrong for me to think of returning and going back to a 12 Pro?

Regardless what your thinking what phone did you have before your 14?

I returned a Pro Max. I couldn't adjust to the size and was actually experiencing pinky pain haha. I tested it for a week, and a few minutes in store would not be enough to know.

I had pinky pain at first with my 12 Pro Max, but discovered the right case can help a lot. A lot of hard plastic cases and cases with open bottoms kill my pinky, but soft silicone or leather cases with closed bottoms don’t hurt it.

I've only ever returned due to cosmetic or display issues. I never had to return my 3G, 5, 6, original SE or 8, they were all perfect the first time...but I gave up and just accepted iPhone Xs #4 (was never happy with it though) and also ended up on 13 Pro #4 (which is flawless).

And by the looks of it, 14 Pro #1 is likely going back.

I returned an 8 Plus that was poorly assembled to the point the lightning port didn’t work properly. The whole phone from display to frame was visibly crooked and was like nothing I’ve seen before or since, quality control wise from Apple.

I returned an X whose display was giving me serious eye strain. The text appeared to be twitching nonstop. That’s when I learned about pwm, pulse width modulation and its insidious effects on the nervous system of some of us sensitive to it. Edit: I forgot I returned an XS Max whose pwm rate caused a seizure migraine.

Then the year the iPhone 12 series was released I struggled to find one that was ergonomically comfortable and that had a display with a pwm rate compatible with my migraine condition. I’m not usually so indecisive once I’ve made my purchase, but that year they changed the design enough that it took me by surprise the ergonomic issues I would have with the various sizes and weights. And as always, my sensitivity to pwm often complicates my ability to adjust to a new OLED display.

I finally settled comfortably on a 12 mini and a 12 pro max. Both had defective displays showing greens in place of blacks, but I did not return them. I tolerated the issues, knowing I would trade them in eventually.

My 13 Pro had a somewhat wonky camera with focusing issues that I didn’t get addressed because the display was causing me headaches. I set it aside and used a free XR from AT&T until I was gifted an iPhone 11. I am trading the 13 Pro back to Apple today.

14 Pro Max is a keeper for me this year. I am very pleased with it so far. I’m ridiculously pleased with the deep purple color, too.
Just wow! I’ve never heard of someone having so many defects in iPhones. Of course those would have to be returned. The PWM issue is something I just learned about recently. It sounds rough. I can see it might take some time to see if a new iPhone is going to cause those types of issues. I’m really happy your new Purple Pro Max is a keeper for you!

I certainly can’t expect perfection from others given how often I goof something. I’ve had my moments of indecision just never on an iPhone. I recently bought a watch while on vacation that was a little pricey for me. I woke up every day for a week and thought about whether I should buy it. I didn’t want regrets or a return. Eventually I decided to go for it and have no regrets.

What surprised me on many posts are when people return an iPhone so casually. Some I think bought two and kept the one they liked the most. Some return because the color in real life doesn’t match the color online. I just couldn’t do that. And like you said, many people do this every year.

Just my opinions. I think the right/wrong is something you have to decide for yourself. For me, I would have considered those things you mentioned before I bought the iPhone. I think Dynamic Island will improve as more apps use it especially for live events. I use Always On, but for me luckily no battery life issues. The 12 Pro is a great phone too. I will say the display on the 14 Pro is a bigger upgrade than I expected in terms of brightness.

Oh no! What’s wrong with the 14 Pro?

Still loving my 14PM. AOD nice detail. I interact wit DI everyday. A few bugs here and there. Overall good. Only thing is that while on AT&T I had better coverage on the 13PM versus the 14PM. I've noticed on spots that the 13PM was fast the 14PM not the best. Could be AT&T issues. After 10 years with AT&T I'm considering trying Verizon. Have many buddies with Verizon in Miami who swear by it.

I use my phones without a case, so that would be another compromise :(
