Hi. If you have ever participated in the Fortnight Challenge, I am interested in collecting info on what prime lenses you use or own. If you have no prime at all, let me know that, too. This would be helpful in deciding which focal length to use for any Prime Lens Challenge. The idea comes up in the Topic Thread, but we have trouble deciding on where to go with it.

My prime is the 100mm f2.8 IS Macro L lens. Everything else is a zoom.

Love the first three, don't like the last one.

In the interest of community participation, would it not be more appealing to limit the contest to a particular focal length? Or even a range of focal lengths (i.e. under 24mm, 35-50, 75-200, 200+, etc). I don't own any primes but could easily replicate one by not moving the zoom ring on my camera...

My curiosity bites me again...

I'm just trying to gather a bunch of info on what primes folks have and use. I don't intend to be promoting a "prime lens" challenge. I just want to be able to speak from a position of greater knowledge the next time someone suggest using a prime focal length lens for a Challenge Topic. So far, five of us have primes and they cover a wide range.

Note: I changed the title of the thread.

EF 200mm f/2.8L USM II
EF 400mm f/5.6L USM

Zooms:
Tokina 12-24mm f/4
Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

Another zoom I plan to buy in the near future: EF 70-200mm f/4LUSM (no IS), which should be perfect for dog races during the winter months.

I think this calls for a poll. :)

I've got relatively few primes compared to many Pentax users :p

Pentax K:
F SMC 50mm f/1.4
M SMC 50mm f/1.4

M42 (Screw mount):
28mm f/2.8
135mm f/2.8

(and 24mm and Tokina 135 mm 2.8 for Pentax-K, but these are collecting dust together with the camera.)
Forgot the Pentax SMC 50 1.7!

Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 prime. (2x format = 40mm)

I shoot a G1 micro 4/3 format.

I just bought my 2nd body so I don't have to switch lenses in the field.

No primes in my kit either....16-35 II and 70-200 II. I'm looking to purchase th new Carl zeiss 85mm prime for about $1300. I tried it out the other day at my local shop and this thing ROCKS! It takes me about 2-3months to buy a lens because I tend to do a lot of research and hands on before I splurge :D

I use the Nikkor 10,5 mm / 2.8 (Fishy) and the Nikkor 35 mm / 1.8 on my D90.(1,5 Faktor)

I'm planning to get the makro Nikkor 60mm / 2.8 .

As a Pentax user I have a nice collection of prime lenses:
Pentax SMC M 28mm f/2.8 (used to get more use but not any more since I bought the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8)
Pentax SMC FA 50mm f/1.4 (gets a lot of use)
Pentax SMC M 50mm f/1.8 (used to get more use but not any more)
Pentax SMC M 200mm f/4 (used quite a lot)
Vivitar S1 90mm f/2.5 (beautiful lens, one of my all time favorite lenses, gets a lot of use)
Zeiss 20mm f/4 (M42 lens, too awkward to use, so it mostly sits at home)
Sigma 24mm f/1.8 (used to get a ton of use on my old 6MP K100D, but since I upgraded to 14MP K20D I can see the lack of sharpness and I stopped using it)
Pentacon 300mm f/4 (M42 lens, medium format so effective field of view on APS-C is 675mm, very heavy lens, not tack sharp, gets used, but not too often, it's just too big)

Canon 50mm 1.8 II
Sigma 30mm 1.4 EX DC

These are the only 2 lenses I own besides kit lens. The 30mm stays on 99% of the time, and the 50mm is attached to extension tubes for when I feel the need (rarely).

The Sigma is my most-used lens at the moment. I've really gotten to appreciate the way you work with primes. I think my next lens will be a wider prime, perhaps a 17 mm Tokina or a ~20 mm prime.
