Prime

Tamron 60mm f/2 Macro.

I never really used it until the past few weeks, now I love it. I am going to switch to mostly primes now!!!

Currently my only prime is a Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 fisheye. Love it, although it's used infrequently.

I'm looking to get an EF 85mm f/1.8 one of these days

All others are zoom

I've owned two zoom lenses, and sold both...

Rangefinder lenses --15mm f/4.5, 21mm f/3.4, 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/2, 90mm f/4, 90mm f/2

SLR lenses -- 28mm f/3.5, 31mm f/1.8, 35mm f/2, 43mm f/1.9, 50mm f/1.4, 77mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, 100mm f/4 (Macro), 135mm f/2.5, 200mm f/4, 300mm f/4

Medium format (6x6) -- 50mm f/4, 80mm f/2.8, 150mm f/4

If you're looking to start a challenge with a specific focal length, you're going to have to deal with with different formats (4/3rds, APS-C, Full Frame, Medium Format, etc). It might be better to restrict it to a field of view (Ultra Wide, Wide, Normal, Short Tele, Tele, Extreme Tele -- however you want to break it up) -- a 50mm on 6x6 is a wide, a 50mm on 35mm-FF is normal, and on APS-C it's getting towards the short-tele range, and on 4/3rds it's a tele.

That said, a prime lens challenge could be fun -- I hope to find the time to participate.

Instead of a "shoot with xx mm prime lens" challenge, how about a few challenges like "superwide (<24mm)," "wide (24-35)," "normal (35-60)," "short telephoto (85-135ish?)," and "telephoto" challenges? Variety for everyone.

That might be too obvious and maybe it's been done before already. I've only been looking at this forum for a month or two.

Anyway - just ideas.

Jonathan.

I'd recommend that suggestions on variances of the fortnightly challenge be posted in that thread. I think (correct me if I am wrong) this was just a poll to follow up on one of those recommends.

Only have one, so far... 50mm 1.8 II

I am however shopping for another prime, but not sure if i want something wide like a 20mm, or something for macro type stuff like the 100mm 2.8 :)

30 mm f/1.4 Sigma
50 mm f/1.8 Nikkor

The Sigma is my most-used lens at the moment. I've really gotten to appreciate the way you work with primes. I think my next lens will be a wider prime, perhaps a 17 mm Tokina or a ~20 mm prime.

Canon 50mm 1.8 II
Sigma 30mm 1.4 EX DC

These are the only 2 lenses I own besides kit lens. The 30mm stays on 99% of the time, and the 50mm is attached to extension tubes for when I feel the need (rarely).

That Sigma 30 interests me. A lot of what I shoot with my 28-75 2.8 Tamron seems to be at 28mm. Sigma has a track record for iffy quality control. How sharp are the units you have?

All vintage Minolta AF, used on a Sony Alpha:

28mm f2.8 (xx)
50mm f1.7
135mm f2.8

I am getting into the 28 after using the 50 almost exclusively for the last 5 months. The 135 is nice but just don't have the need for that long most of the time (and when I do, the 70-210 f4 provides more versatility). Would like a 100mm macro and the 85mm f1.4, but don't really see either happening too soon, or ever for the 85 because I only want it for the collection and don't really know what I would do with it.

But the 28mm is my current go to. It is near normal but still fairly wide (as far as cheap primes go) on an APS-C. Really close focusing and fast AF, plus I only paid $28 for it.

Nice bag of glass, my friend. Do you shoot a day with one lens or swap between the ones that are close in FL like the 28 and 35mm?

Canon 28/1.8 , 35/2 , 50 1.4 , 85/1.8 , 100/2.8 macro , 300/4 , Don't use the first and last too much , the 50 and 85 are mostly used for portrait stuff with the family, 35 seems to always end up in my travel bag as a museum lens.

My lens I use 95% of the time is my Canon 25mm 1.8 I got for some ridiculously cheap price (and it is ridiculously cheaply made, worst auto focus ever) but its so fast!

One day I will get an L.
