So you can remove Chrome from Android? Interesting. And wrong. You cannot remove Chrome from Android.

And then we have the next excuse. Anonymous Data gathering is still data collecting.
Funny you seem to be talking to yourself re Chrome as you both asked and answered it :)

However re Chrome its not a default app and it can be disabled.

I just checked my cache and data usage is 0 for Chrome as I do not use it by default so no usage

This is the point I made earlier you have greater control in some areas to assist in avoidance but neither OS is fool proof and both have pitfalls

Apples stance on there server privacy I am 100% confident in their ability to manage and I agree it may be easier to get pinged less with an iPhone than say an Android but that's worth squat IMO when it is not 0

If you disable Chrome, you still have Android WebView. And that is basically Chrome. If you don’t think it does the same thing in terms of tracking location, I have a bridge to sell you.

Edit: And once again, you go with an all or nothing stance. Because that’s reasonable.

Sorry mate still think your on your own questions just trying to fill in some bits for you

Personally not disabled chrome just do not use it and how much other browsers use webview still fits in with my basic premise on options and avoidance that have varying degrees of success if you wish to call it that.

Yep sorry if the genie is out of the bottle its academic how far

By that logic, Apple does it too, and so does DuckDuckGo.

Everyone on the internet collects your data. The difference with Google is
  • They use your data directly on you to improve your experience
  • They are open about their privacy policies
  • At any time, you can go find what Google has about you
Too many people here pretend Apple is a garden of privacy. It's not. Your data is private between you and Apple. That's really it. It's not that much different from Google.

I ditched my Pixel 2xl 2 days ago for the iPhone 8. When I got home I did some research on Google and found that every time I used Google Assistant there was actually transcripts online of what I discussed with the Assistant along with dates/times. Not only that but I also found what appeared to be verbal conversations I had with people. Maybe Assistant was on and mistakenly recorded these but I’m sorry, having that stuff recorded and a record of it is crossing a line for me.

I’m not hiding anything but I also don’t feel like my business should be everyone else’s.

Ppl can say all they want about how great the Pixel line of phones are, how amazing the cameras are, blah blah. But for me, I’m happy where I am with Apple. Apple makes great products and IMO work better than anything Android related.

Yes and your free to use many other browsers like Edge which does not use webview it uses a different open source chromium content module as I understand in my limited knowledge of these inner workings.

There are also other extensions used that are further removed and so on these were all spin-offs from the chromium project and should not be confused with Chrome

All these extensions enable delivery of html content to more or lessor degrees but have a common core standard for agreed standards for compatibility etc and are used cross platforms on many apps and not just browsers eg your game or app may deliver rules or FAQ in the form of a web page

Whilst Chrome is a fully developed app with many add-ons spell checkers etc etc other apps only use the very basics if you like to deliver HTML with minimal overheads

Whilst it seems reasonable to assume Googles own browser may have some tracking embedded its far fetched to assume any or all other content delivered by chromium api's etc etc is also tracking back to Google given the open source code and cross platform use.

It seems what ever you do somewhere along the line your leaking and there probably is many things you can do to slow down the leaks or give false data, but stemming the flow is probably outside most users knowledge including myself :D

While it can be seen that leaking slowly is a better option the end result will be the same. Part of the trouble of the slow sink approach is like cutting out the sports section in a news paper you may also remove the joke section on the flip page

I gave up trying to be King Canute :D:rolleyes: in fighting of the inevitable on some trivia tracking is not worth the effort given all the other stealth data mining going on from less scrupulous developers etc.

It's not the holes that you can see its the ones you cant that are sharing your contacts, photos, location data etc on Android or IOS unfortunatly.

Of course they do! So does Apple. This is how these companies make their assistants better. As far as the random crap, that just happens sometimes, but go get a homepod and watch the same thing happen.

Here's what should concern you: On Google services, you know where you stand and what they know. Apple doesn't tell you what they know or don't know. They don't claim to not mine your data. How much does Apple know?

Oh well.
I prefer iOS and it works for what I need it to do. Pixel was ok but I wouldn’t say it rivaled the iPhone or iOS.

Depends what you're trying to do.
Have better native mail - Pixel
Have better native services - Pixel
Have a better built in assistant - Pixel
Have a better camera - Pixel
Better low light photos - Pixel

Refined OS - iPhone
$1000 phone - iPhone

I know I shouldn't feel bad about using android now, they have come a long way and are often better than their counterparts but because I have used iPhone for so long and because I have I swore allegiance to them long ago, I do feel dirty, as if there's a terrible stigma surrounding the use of android phones.

I am not sure what Apple has done but I do feel slightly brainwashed even after switching, hopefully this will fix it's self in time.
Thanks for your honesty, probably you are not the only one with a very unhealthy relationship with your phone :)

As a longtime iPhone 8 user I am really hoping that the OnePlus 6t has better vehicle integration than the Samsung Galaxy s9. I really enjoy Android but vehicle integration is important to me , especially when it comes to Bluetooth use.

I was once really embarrassed when trying to use google pay in stores. Nfc was on, card was active and ready and it just didn’t work. Switched to my iPhone and it worked first time.

Yup. Had the same issue. But the Android bleeding hearts will be the first to say: “oh it can’t be the phone.”

Too much eggnog??

If you havent noticed it yet the difference between android and ios folks it is that android folks stand on their feet while ios folks have their head in the hype cloud - it is never apples fault, the user is to blame. Bendy ipp? Never heard, you must have sit on it by yourself or your elephant. User fault until apple released a note - but still must be a user fault. Bendy numeric magic keyboard on the last year - you must have bent it by yourself (just google it!). No lte after an update - i dont have it so it must be an user error... or you are just holding it wrong, try to stand on your head and bend your leg alittle bit at the same time. I have dust inside my imac display - why dont you clean your house better? Newest display of apple watch is just a carbage and it seems they dont have any quality control - no it is perfect, you must have ocd or something else and apparently the watch isnt for you, buy shamesung watch. did i forget something that has happened lately?
