Strictly speaking, they DO NOT require checking or debit for auto-pay. They DO require checking or debit for the $5 auto-pay discount.
That was my point, except the $5 dollar auto pay discount is per line, so its does add up to be a lot more unfair the more lines you have with T-Mobile. So if you have 4 lines as an example that is $20 a month that T-Mobile is pocketing while protesting credit card transaction fees that some bank raised needlessly in the USA. ;)

In general the price of technology decrease overtime for a given piece of equipment. Now if they’re properly managing their new Capex expenditure inflation doesn’t come into play. Of course them increasing there prices will in turn increase core inflation becoming a vicious cycle

Meanwhile, everyone wants more money to work and trying to form unions on minimum wage jobs. This is why you'll be paying more.,

You don't think this is 100% greed? I mean come on. Yes a companies costs rise which is why they target _new_ subscribers. This isn't about $5. This is about T-Mobile not wanting price locks anymore. They want to be like Apple and everyone else and be able to raise their prices whenever they want primarily to raise the stock price and put more money into shareholders wallets.
And, not only that, companies may legitimately need to raise prices a certain amount due to inflation. But they pad it at every step along the way. Cars that were $25,000 in 2022 are now $35,000 today. That's not just inflation.

Yes. I got a text about $2 but not my voice line which seems to be covered by “price lock 1.0”. $2 for a watch line seems excessive.

100% greed? No.

Just look at their Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) numbers. In Q1 2017, ARPU for postpaid lines was $47.53

7 years later, T-Mobile reported Q1 2024 post-paid APRU at $48.79. That's an increase of 2.65%.

If T-Mobile was being greedy and jacking up rates left and right, ARPU would be much higher.

The trick I was told to get around this, and it works, is to pay all but $1 on your credit card, then have TMobile auto-pay the rest of your bill on your debit card. It doesn't do anything for security purposes, but if you paid via credit for the points bonus, this works.
Don’t even need that complexity. Just schedule a credit card payment before the due date and there’s a zero balance for autopay.

"We're adjusting prices to respond to rising costs"

Rising cost of what? THEY ARE the rising costs.

At a minimum, the rising cost of employees including wages, benefits (insurance costs), etc.

Some of these T-Mobile plans apparently haven’t seen any increases in nearly ten years which makes a $2 to $5 increase pretty insignificant on a per year average basis compared to overall inflation during that time. For example, adjusting for inflation, $50 in 2014 would be around $66 today. The $2 to $5 increase is much less than $16.

T-Mobile appears to targeting seniors with these price increases. My wife and I have been on the ONE Plan Unlimited 55 plan for the past 6 years. We are now in our mid-60s. And I have recently added my 89 y/o father to the plan since mom passed away. Given the language around limited scope etc from T-Mobile this is definitely targeting seniors.

No they’re not. It’s everyone. You had the $30/line plan for 6years which was an amazing run, it’s still super cheap at 35/line for postpaid . If you don’t like it switch to a cheaper MVNO like mint or visible

I got this. 0 details provided though. Does it apply to the free line on my account? How about my Apple Watch? I have 4 lines plus the watch. I can’t even see the new bill until it’s time to pay it and if you go on the website to try and change plans, you get an error. Annoying how little info they tell us.
I got the email my standalone watch line is going up 2 bucks

I use energy drink prices as a metric.

Go into any small grocer or gas station, and you can buy 3 for $7.00.

Go into the big chain groceries and the exact same product is twice the price! Like, come on!
From which small grocer or gas station can I buy Celcius energy drink for $1.00?

And I just had to switch autopay from credit card to bank account in order to retain the $5 discount. Now this?

I’m still on a grandfathered Sprint plan so not sure if this will apply.
Not sure how you're still on Sprint plan, the should have migrated a while ago.

T-Mobile hasn't offered a ONE, Simple Choice, or Magenta plan in years... way before Jan. 18, 2024 which is when the price lock guarantee kicked in.
Magenta they absolutely did, I worked for a retailer up until March last year and I know for a fact I was on Magenta Max, and I sold them as well.

We got the text this morning. Not surprised. In the ~20 years I've been involved with Sprint/T-Mobile, service has gotten better. Adding the in-laws about a decade ago saved us a ton on our six lines (AT&T took advantage of a couple seniors. They paid a lot more for two lines than we did for three lines). It may be time to drop two of the lines. Even with the increase, it's still cheaper than AT&T and Verizon by enough to not get incensed by the small-ish increase.

How are they "definitely targeting seniors" when the increases impact both regular and 55+ plans?
