I don't consider Android based Tablets even close to being a viable competitor.

The only thing that Google has on tap that would be threatening is a Chromium OS based tablet.

Now, that could really shine.

Android is great, but IMO, having spent alot of time with it, isn't intuitive enough to make huge inroads on a tablet form factor.

(Just like an opinion, I reserve the right to change my stance over time. :p)

I think an Android tablet would still stand a better chance than yet another tablet iteration running Windows. By the time a real competitor actually launches and is available at a retail store, Apple's headstart in the mainstream tablet market will be formidable. They have already set a high bar with the 10+ hours of real battery life, so we'll see who else steps up.

Not at all "limited". You are thinking old school. CD's, USB's and hard drives are a thing of the past. And remember that this is a wireless device. Like the iPhone you can sync wirelessly to your home computer.

Nearly 68 years of age but up with the times

Really? You know the iPad has to be tethered to a compute to activate it. The OS updates also need to be installed via tether. How are USB's a thing of the past?

Hard drives/USBs/Memory cards are a thing of the past? Really? Ok. How am I storing all my photos locally before putting them into the cloud? What about when I'm not on wifi?

How am I storing the movie I just ripped from my dvd - or editing video on FCP without a hard drive?

How am I getting my photos from my camera (since the iPad doesn't have one) to the iPad without using a computer?

How am I printing from the iPad?

I appreciate that you're "up with the times" - but Hard Drives and USBs are not a thing of the past. They're very much the present and will be in the future for many years to come.

Well now, we have an iPad killer in your garage then, eh? Just waiting for Nokia and Verizon marketing to come by for a demo, right?

Huh? If you think I'm bashing the iPad, I'm not. I have one. I honestly have no idea where your sarcasm (if that's what it is) or comment is about.

Who ME?

Just wondering why that 'perfect' model of yours isn't out on the market kickin' the iPad butt right now. That's all.

Plus, technology comes and goes. What seems necessary and obvious today becomes unnecessary quite quickly. That is part of being a 'revolutionary device' entails. Think Different. (All that said, does not mean that I disagree the iPad platform needs to 'mature'.)

The only tech which seems to be able to avoid this truism is Microsoft.
IT NEVER GOES AWAY!

Who said anything about me thinking my model was perfect. I was responding to another poster who said USBs, Harddrives, etc are a thing of the past. Did you you read the whole thread or just my comment? It seems like you're trying to start a "fight" or "argument" where there is none.

Sam there are two outright pieces of silly in this post. I'll let you find them ;)

Umm I typo'd computer (compute) - and "there's an app for that" (printing)

And the iPad isn't meant to video edit (yet...)

My points were an example using the iPad - but overall, the technologies of hard drives and USBs aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Straight from the WePad's website:

"The WePad is built on the WePad OS Linux-based operating system, which provides support for Android and Adobe AIR applications, amongst others. Numerous applications may be downloaded and installed from the WePad Store (designed as a meta store) or from integrated open stores."

So let's see...it doesn't really run Android OS, and doesn't have the Android Market installed. Hmm...sounds like Google really had a lot of input into this device, huh?

Somehow, I don't think Steve Jobs will be losing any sleep over this thing, and that's if it actually ever ships to begin with. I'll believe it's not just another technology demonstrator when people start buying them by the thousands in July or August.

I don't think he'll lose any sleep either. I was interjecting into a disagreement about Android Marketplace and the accesablilty of said Marketplace from a device that is not a phone.

From hothardware.com...

The company makes no bones about the product they are targeting, saying that their tablet is far larger and more capable than the iPad. There's also a set of built-in speakers here, and since it's based around Google's open Android operating system, applications can be loaded on to it after purchase. Other specs include 16GB of NAND Flash (32GB optional), a 1.3MP webcam, SIM card slot, Flash/Adobe AIR support, access to the WePad AppStore and Google's own Android Marketplace, multi-tasking support, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, optional GPS, an ambient light & motion sensor and an internal microfan to keep things cool.

With Apple there is only one standard to follow when it comes to their hardware, w/iPad, where w/others, you you have many.

By many I mean, different cpu's (AMD, Intel), gpu's (Intel, AMD, Nvidia), chipsets (AMD, Intel, Nvidia), displays, WiFi and bluetooth hardware, etc.

The most important thing that most tech heads don't see is that Apple is culturally relevant. We're at a point where the market here in the US is embracing the gadget culture. Normal consumers outside of the nerd realm are willing to pay big bucks for the coolest gadgets and Apple delivers that time after time. You will see time after time, that while Apple's products might not be the biggest seller, but they will always be the leader of the gadget culture. They are the cool kids that you can't seem to figure out.
