Then why not just buy a mechanical Tag? I mean look at the photo below. The watch face completely duplicates the timing bezel. You'd never find that on a mechanical Tag. This watch seems completely pointless to me. No heart rate sensor, no NFC for mobile payments, no GPS, no speaker, low res display. It's not better than other Android Wear watches from a tech/functionality standpoint and not better looking than a mechanical Tag.

The low res seems like a miss for sure. It seems very conflicting with the very nature of a quality Swiss timepiece. You can see the pixelation.

And the list of omissions certainly is odd -NFC, heart rate sensor - two things that give true usefulness to a smart watch over a mechanical.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I wonder if Breitling, Omega, Rolex, etc will counter with something better, or just watch if this will crash and burn.

Sadly, after the tag inevitably crashes and burns the rest of the luxury market will stay far away. You will probably see more collaborations like an Omega edition apple watch.

I love my AW, but I see luxury watch makers staying away. I think we may see more of the Hermès type AW in the future, but I would not count on Breitling, Omega, or Rolex testing the smart watch waters any time soon. I mean FitBits are still out selling all smart watches, so as far as luxury watch makers are considered. This is just a fad. I hope it's not because I like smart watches, but I can understand not jumping in.

This watch does not excite me. I have two pre-conditions for a watch: long battery life and waterproof. The only one that fits me was the Withings Activite. It does not have all the bells and whistles of other smart watches but it has what I need. Alarm, logging steps, logging swimming, logging sleep. It is very a very elegant, Swiss made watch with some smart functions.

I love mine and it stays on my wrist 24/7. It is so liberating not to have to charge every day or every 4-5 days like I used to do with my Fitbit.

It works with iOS and Android to boot. If you want a quality time piece with some smart functions, then that is the one to get.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
The more I see the Tag the more I like the look of it, wouldn't buy one but it looks nice I think.

Omega have already stated they won't make a smartwatch and instead are focusing on materials they use. They already use liquid metal extensively and ceramics too.

Oh I definitely think it looks nice, though I think their mechanical watches look a heck of lot nicer. I just don't get why someone would spend 1,500 on something like this. I feel the same way about the Apple Watch Edition.

I find the non-rotating outer bezel to be cheesy.

I really like the overall design. I cringe about the low res screen...I mean seriously, what were they thinking??? Anyone have any idea what type of screen technology is used?

I suppose they figure they don't have a choice but I'm not convinced smart watches will replace luxury mechanical watches. I don't think people that wear nice mechanical watches are going to jump to smart watches, and I doubt those who currently aren't wearing a watch care if it looks like a mechanical watch or not.

I agree. I don't really need a mechanical watch. It's meant to tell time, look good on the wrist, and that's it. I can't even contemplate if I actually had to read text on a screen the size of a watch.
