I had some free time on hand and emailed two dozen sellers of 1st gen ipad on Craigslist in my area and eBay about this target deal. Got several thank you replies.

Wow. My parents have an original iPad and they're ichin' to get a new Air. THIS is a great deal. Thanks OP! :)

Do I just bring the iPad in by itself, or do I need to bring in a cable, charger, box? I have a 32GB iPad 1 sitting here that I can take in tomorrow!

I called and asked and they said only the iPad is needed. I plan to go on Wednesday.

Did this deal this evening. Traded in an iPad 1 and got an iPad Air 16GB white for $279 + tax. Gave the unit to my wife since I had already bought a 32GB on Friday from Best Buy. Both units are working great. Now I have to decide what to do with my iPad mini.

Going to trade both my 32gb iPad 2 and 16gb iPad mini and wait for retina mini which will be free. After I got the iPad air on launch day I can't go back to the A5 chip ever again.

I really need to do this.... But I'm going to be short $ to get what we need.

Our 1s are just starting to have some issues with certain apps. It's time. But how to convert them with the least output. I'm fine with going with the 4th gen and/or mini right noe. Obviously a big step up for us! (I will get the T-mo air for me :p )

Here is hoping it still is on Wednesday morning when I'm not working.... (at target without a mobile department!)

That was amazingly easy. I walked out with a nice $200 gift card and no hassles.

I got to keep my charger and cable too, which is a sweet extra since I can use them for my iPhone.

Happy.

So I went to Target and got a $200 "Target Trade-in Card" for a 2nd Gen iPad.

I tried to use it as a giftcard on Target.com but it wouldn't work. How does one spend the trade-in money on the Target online store?

Thanks

I traded in my iPad 3 16GB WiFi tonight and got the $200 Gift Card. They said the card was only good in the Target Mobile area and the Electronics Department. They were not good online or for in-store merchandise from other departments. I will just save it for the iPad mini retina when it comes out and use it with my Red card to save even more.

Considering I got the iPad 3 free as a prize, I am still ahead by $200.

This trade works well indeed

Got my $200 for a 32 GB iPad gen1, used it for a new 32GB iPad air.

The actual trade-in was very easy, but I had to wait no less than 2 hours behind others to get it done. Then they insisted I had to use the card specifically on an iPad, but they were out of Airs. So I got an iPad 4, called back the next day to verify they had an Air, and went back to exchange it. Major hassle, but got a great Air, perfect screen.

I just crunched numbers.... and in order for it to work for me I have to go with 16gb devices.

We have 32s now - it will be rough going back, not to mention with cameras they are going to want a variety of other apps on there too.

Or I can keep my life functioning as it does now and skip it - or just trade in mine, save the CG for the retina mini for my oldest, and order the t-mo variant.

That might work.

Except, I should keep mine and trade in the kids (mine is 3g). Hmmmm.....

My rep said it was good for anything in the Target store or Target online. They gave me a receipt that has a link to the terms, and the site says the same thing. I am attaching the screenshot of the terms.

Can the Target tradein credit of $200 be applied to purchased anything from target like a gift card or must it be applied to the purchase of the iPad Air? Will they accept a broken 1st gen Ipad? Is it a target employee testing the device or do they just accept it. Are they offering the $200 credit for any Ipad Generation? The $200 credit is definitely a HUGE DEAL if the iPad is broken or if it is a 1st Gen only. The 3rd or 4th gen you would be better served selling it to a website like Gazelle or BuyBackWorld for a higher cash offer than $200 credit.

You get a gift card that can be used for anything at target (in store/online). I grabbed some laundry detergent on the way out.

Terms state the iPad has to be functioning. By functioning it has to turn on and they have to reset it before they give you the credit just incase find my iPad is on for newer devices. The mobility person will test the device as their name is on the trade in sheet.

Well I took advantage of the target trade in deal and traded in my old iPad 1 32GB 3G for 200.00 and in return bought a 16GB iPad mini for my parents for 115.00 and used the 25.00 gift card on a case for it. This target deal is assume.

Does any one know or tried to a we if chest Buy will match this? I have some BB gift cards that could take the price down further.

Can someone comment on how long it took for the inspection? Wife said she thinks it was 20 minutes per person.

Also, any idea if they'll reject it if the screen was replaced with an aftermarket?
