Teleport IS a FINISHED program, and it works fantasically whether you are home or away, elsewhere on the internet (I use it both ways myself). If you do not understand the basics required to set up a VPN or do port forwarding on your router don't blame the author or application.

The author did his best to give clear instructions with pictures on his website. That "16 pages" of instructions are small slides with a little bit of text on each one, and could probably fit on two printed sheets of paper. He chose to present it in bite-sized chunks to help people such as yourself understand the process easier.

chill baby, did I say I blamed him, just that it was not a finished program for those who do not have the knowledge and skills like yourself.

giving his best is not good enough for 25 bucks man.

anyway, you all can get logmein for free and there is no set up problems what so ever and it works fairly well.

Sorry if I offended you in some way, that was not my intent. However, my point still stands that Teleport is a finished, complete application. Teleport is a VNC client, there is nothing missing in his app's implementation. Try Mocha VNC (and the free Lite version) if you want a comparison (even though those are a joke in comparison feature-wise). These apps all require you to do the extra setup steps to access remotely.

If you find some sort of web-based remote access system you like that's fine, but I'll stick to VNC (and remote desktop with WinAdmin) over a VPN to keep my (and my client's) data safe and secure. I would have easily paid $50 for Teleport for the capabilities it has given me. :)

If only there was a way for these things to stream audio also.

Say if I have a live chat person on my mac, it would be nice to both remotely see that person AND hear them. Or any paid service live cams - ported to phone with sound. That's what I want. I don't quite understand why we can stream from our iTunes library but not other things.

Ok, for all of you who are still having problems connecting outside your network, youtube has a step by step using no-ip and touchpad pro (teleport)

Make sure you view the "video response"....it shows you where you need to change the last 3 digits of the ip in Airport settings, and you should have no problem. If you pay real close attention during the "video reply" you will notice that one of the settings (checked box) he tells you to check in the original is unchecked on the update (as he is scrolling through the tabs)

As far as using Teleport to stream videos and sound...get real. Do you have any idea what the refresh rate and associated bandwidth would have to be? That's not what this program is about.

Okay, I get it now. Doesn't make much sense to me, though, because when you leave your house or wherever, don't you usually put the computer to sleep and close the lid? I don't want to leave my computer open all the time just in case I need to access it from somewhere...

I used too but not any more. Most of society leaves their systems on and screen savers kick in. They allow updates, system scanning and backups to take place at night while they sleep or are at work. This is what I do now also. I maintain heavy encryption on my router and firewalls. I do close the lid but I set it to not shut down when I do close it. Some do not leave their systems up and obviously that is your choice and maybe this is not for you. Others may need to have access to their systems for whatever their personal reasons are and that is what this app allows.

Just my .3 (inflation) cents worth.

Anyone know if this works better than VNC Lite? Even with the 8 bit display option over a 16mbp/s wifi connection, it's slower than VNSea for jailbroken iPhones. I hope that this one is a lot faster.

Apples and Oranges man....Teleport makes VNC Lite look like it was written by infants.

Fair enough. I assume you're using a WinPC, then, as my Macbook goes to sleep when I close it, unless I use InsomniaX.

If your connected using Ethernet (not WiFi) you can use "Sleepover" to remotely wake your computer up before you connect using Teleport....that way you can let your computer sleep and not have it on 24/7

Cool, I'll have to do some research and see if my Alien machine and router will accept this. It would be a big asset to tie in with teleporter if my system accepts it.

Yeah...I bought it, figured I could get it to work over wireless...no dice. I need to hard wire the main comp in.

Hi folks,

I am the developer of SleepOver and just wanted to post a request for help. If you have successfully got
wake-over-Internet working reliably with your router it would be great if you could visit
http://www.perculasoft.com/sleepover/report_router.php
and fill in the details of your router, along with any notes about what you had to do to get it to work.

As some of you have probably experienced, it is very difficult to know if your router will support
wake-over-Internet until you try it, so I am hoping to put up a list of routers that are known to work
sometime this week, but at the moment I have a grand total of ... 2

But I'm sure there are more ;-) and it would be good to have them listed somewhere instead of having to
trawl forums, etc.

BTW, I am working on the next version of SleepOver (free update) which has the following improvements
based on customer feedback:
* Support for hostnames (useful for dynamic DNS).
* Replaced sliders with keypads for IP, MAC entry, for faster input.
* Removed some unnecessary fields which only confused people.

gambcl, thank you for the Sleepover app. I have submitted detailed instructions for WOL over the internet with the Linksys RV082 to your website. Please note that the RV042 can also be set up in this manner. You can PM or e-mail me if you need more info.

Teleport is definitely the best VNC app on the store - problem is I often get the message that my iPhone does not have enough resources to continue and the app quits.

Do a "force quit" on Mail and Safari. That will get rid of the memory problems. To force quit, open Mail, hold down your home button for 5-8 seconds until it closes, then open Safari and do the same.

Teleport v1.0 would just crash to the springboard on low memory/resources. The new version 1.1 will warn you, and just close the connection without crashing (at least in my experience with it).

Hope that helps you... :D

Thanks, yes it helps to force quit those apps - shame Apple doesn't provide a proper way to quit applications, seems daft that on a device with limited resources it isn't already an option.

Can someone tell me if it is secure to use this app to remote access my computer when it is connected to the internet using VPN "http://www.sh3lls.net/" as long as I setup a password?

No, that will not secure your traffic to the final destination. Here are some awesome ASCII diagram on why it wont help you ;)

Cheap unecrypted shared VPN they offer first:

YOU______________VPN Endpoint (USA IP)__________YOUR HOME PC
X ---> 10101010100110 ---> VPN ---> 10101010100110 ----> Y

Now the Encrypted private VPN:

YOU______________VPN Endpoint (USA IP)__________YOUR HOME PC
X ---> ************** ---> VPN ---> 10101010100110 ----> Y

So you see the data is either totally unencrypted or only encrypted up to the VPN endpoint, after that it is decoded and clear. The only thing that will TOTALLY secure you is a VPN endpoint at your home or office. Replace whatever crude consumer router you have at home with a Linksys RV082 and set up a VPN tunnel. I have one here and it works great with the iPhone, my transmitted data is secure, no forwarded ports on your router at home that let everyone in! :D

I am currently using their "Dedicated IP With Encryption" VPN service and the linksys WRT54G router, is it safe enough? I just don't want others to have access to my files on the computers.
