Not really, because put that Exynos under the load of my daily activities and it would die within the hour.

My point wasn't clear, I'll give you that. I was trying to point out people focus on cores as if that's what makes something better, and yeah, having more cores in a device *can* be good, but it's not a guaranteed better, and in a lot of cases, the tradeoffs are worse.

What do you mean it would die within an hour?

I don't want to underestimate more cores and MediaTek esp the MT6592 again after reading this article -

MediaTek MT6592 (on par with Snapdragon 800/801?)
www.hasaan.com/2014/09/mediatek-mt6592-review-benchmark.html?m=1

I was a bit of a skeptic and hater on MediaTek but the 6592 might already have surpassed Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 and reach 800 territory while being 1/2 the price or more on many cheap Asian brands. It blows away the 400/410.

There is a phone in the Philippines which uses the 6592M variant called the SKK LYNX. A rebranded China phone. Only $90. HD screen, good camera, good battery, etc. I'd be lucky if I can find it anywhere. Local branded phone of the year and SKK is generally a laughing stock to us. This MediaTek SoC is basically like the Snapdragon 800 but you can get it at under $200 and cheaper than Snapdragon 400's. If I can't find the SKK Lynx which has ugly wasted bezels for a 5-incher screen, I am taking a look at another phone called the Firefly Mobile Intense Mini. Only 2300 mAh, but smaller and qHD. About $100. Looks better than SKK like an Oppo Find 5 mini copycat. That octa-core is starting to matter if done right and the price is better than Qualcomm's and Intel's.

Good to know that 8 cores are on par with 4, right? :|

Who else thinks we're getting more and more ridiculous as time goes on?
MediaTek's Clear Motion is an interesting and unique feature that nobody seems to notice.

From 60Hz/24 to 30 fps to 120Hz/60 fps. I am already tired of the 60Hz limit and ghosting refresh rates.

I tried the $90 (3999 PHP, it dropped in price) octa-core Firefly Mobile Intense Mini briefly last night. And like what I feel with most Chinese white box/locally rebranded companies, NO WAY! It looks nothing like the pics. Not really metal band. A hint of lag just to open the lockscreen. Cam is ok. The size and back is the only things I liked with removable battery and micro-sd slot for future proof purposes. SKK Mobile Lynx still has my attention since I can make it faster but I don't expect much for a $90 local brand smartphone.

What intrigues me most is MediaTek having its 6592 surpass Snapdragon 600/800 performance, with Clear Motion technology, and you can find smartphones for under $100 with that same chip. You are usually left with Snapdragon 400-410 for most phones under $150. I thought the Snapdragon 400 was one of the most power efficient SoC for low to mid-level phones. Huawei Ascend Mate2 used it packing 3900 mAh and blew the competition away. My Nokia Lumia 635 with 1800+ mAh and LG G3 Beat with 2500 mAh gives 9-10 hr SOT for me. Snapdragon 400 and 800-801 were stellar SoC's. MediaTek is on the rise and starting to become more power efficient but it depends on resolution /screen size and size of the battery. 2500 mAh should be minimum for "5/720p.

Many cheap phones like the Firefly Mobile Intense Mini still intrigue me because for under $100, you can get a small compact phone with better power than the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. Their reputation could be bad, but they also do provide louder speakers, better selfie cams with flash, analog or digital TV tuner, and removable battery. Sucks how cheap China phones can outshine overpriced global brands in some areas. I guess it is like Taiwanese, MediaTek. It seemed to have such a bad reputation for so long. Now things are changing for them. No longer the usual crap. Same can apply to Apple products in 1996, Samsung (pre-2005), LG, et cetera. All had crappy reputations before too.
