in terms of a big update, as in a redesign, or big update like g4-g5 you are right.

however, last year as i mentioned, apple announced a special event at 1 weeks notice (although word got round a bit before).

the same could be done this time round.

i personally think if apple was to release the new imacs in sept, the current line would have received a silent bump in may/jun, 8 months or so after the september o6 update, as 13 months is a long long time to leave a computer without any form of update/ price drop

Precisely.

It is a big update, New design _AND_ new hardware..., this year is different..., previous year iPhone didn't exist. The would not take focus of iPhone so soon.
I vote for September (probably not as the iPhone will be released in Europe this month?!) or October.

I would love it if you were right.

My G4 powermac has been "lethargic" for a few weeks now - it is 8 years old, with upgrades offcourse. I have my eye on a 24 inch and I've been waiting for those upgrades -- it's not crucial, really crucial, for me to have a new computer.

BUT the sooner the better

They had G4's 8 years ago? Why then does my 7year iMac have a G3?

if its not with us by the first week of august then i would be inclined to agree with you

also if its not with us by first week of august im lumbered with a dell, as i really cant wait any longer for a new computer, but i also will not pay 2006 prices for 2006 technology

I hope you're right. I'm leaning towards September, as every iMac has been introduced with a Steve(or Phil)note. My guess is all upcoming updates will be revealed at the Apple Expo. (eg. New iMacs, Ultra-portable MacBook) It sure would be nice to see Leopard released early!

i hope your wrong. :p
I like having the lastest and greatest. If it is an update i hope its not a redesign just a switch to SR

G3 for consumers and G4 for pros at one point. Then it was G4s for entry level desktops and notebooks and G5s for mid and high-end desktops. Intel changed that now with a single chip line for almost everything at various speeds except for the high end.

i just got an issue of maczone magazine in the mail today. They are an apple authorized reseller. I was looking through it, and there were no imacs or mac minis. It is not mentioned once and there is no graphic of one. Possible this tuesday.

I WILL buy the next iMac but I hope you're wrong ONLY because I have way too many expenses the next few months. Leopard comes out October, which is perfect for me and also don't have to worry about upgrading it (even if it's free). I'd rather buy the new iMac's pre-loaded.

no need to worry there

as soon as leopard comes out, all macs will come preloaded with it

what he said :)

LOL

it was a 400 mhz sawtooth -- and i got it with 320 MB ram and SCSI configuration

about 1.5 years ago i upgraded the processor to a sonnet 1.4 put in 1.2 gigs of ram, two 120 gig hard drives and second (used) video card.

It was a nice upgrade --- BUT the video cards are giving out now, I think the motherboard is starting to go I THINK --- the DVD RAM i installed isn't reading CD's anymore.

I don't do much video editing or photo editing anymore BUT, I do use a lot of java applets for forex and stock trading and I would LOVE more power to have more charts open.

Also, my current set up won't let me run my slingbox because the computer can't handle it -- I know the set up work because i tested it on this generations 17 inch iMac --- so i'm keeping it considering that i know i'll have a new computer in the next few weeks

I'm looking forward to being able to run a 24 inch iMac - connected to a 19 inch CRT --- and have a slingplayer window with CNBC on along with my order entry applet on the 19 inch --- and then multiple charts running on the 24 inch screen

BOOOYA

As said before, if anyone besides high standing apple people knew anything about a new iMac it would not be a rumour that iMac is comning, it would be a fact. - So i don't really belive that a big magazine know about it already and skips iMac ads:p, I hate lying people...

paetrick wanne make a bet with me about it?

i'll put my money on july/aug and you on september/october.

$10 just for fun, we pay by paypall once there is a winner.

Deal? (and yes you can trust me, $10 is like 7 euro which is like 15 mins work for me, just a fun bet!)

His reasoning is very good, I believe that it will now. The reason that apple is having the "buy a mac, get a free ipod" deal, is because they are clearing out their stocks to make room for the new products, or so I believe. It also would not make sense for apple to release the new imac with leopard, they would lose alot of sales that way from leopard.

Thats my two cents, I just want a new imac soon.

Wow...some one did there homework!!

I hope so...but one can never know. Also I question how much info best buy gets about new Apple products...

gamerz I agree with you 110%, all the way! Get the old iPods out with the rebate to make room for the OS/Touchscreen iPods around the corner (speculated August, I say 'Yeah right' but you never know). And Apple would make a lot more selling the iMacs NOW (what I want) and then Leopard as another sale later on. (We all know, we'll buy now and then buy Leopard again later even if we say we'll hold out until Leopard comes preinstalled.)

I think what he meant was that they didn't have any iMacs to sell, so they didn't even mention them.

Nice wage there. 40 bucks an hour!?!

Not gonna happen right now, IMO. What is there to upgrade? Maybe the graphics card and slight bump to santa rosa. No big whoop there. Probably will either just have those bumps along with the leopard release in October, or also have a new style case at the same time- although there's really no reason for a new case style either. I don't think there's any reason for them to significantly redesign the case, because the parts are essentially going to be the same except for santa rosa/upgraded gpu. Shortening the chin would probably require a different size and shape power supply, which may or may not be possible.

2) $100 off your printer with a mac :apple: deal ends the 23rd.
3) Discount on .Mac :apple: promo ends the 23rd.
4) Best buy coupon off iPods deal ends the 23rd.

Let me be a devils advocate and offer some counter-points if i may:
2-4) I've watched these deals for the past year now. All were available when i bought my macbook in Sept. 2006. All three have been offered consistently for the past 12 months if memory serves me right. Apple will probably just renew the promo.

I'm thinking that they are renewing contracts so they could apply to the new model #s.

Yes; I think an iPod update will come in September, at the Paris Expo.

lol, that is 76800 dollar a year (if you work with normal hours) then you will have to be VD of a big company to earn that much (apple perhaps? =P)
