I am starting to get a little bitter towards Apple and their basic disregard towards its customers. They are unwilling to lower the price of their almost one year old imac and they of course are unwilling to announce any dates for an upgrade because they can still sucker some potential buyers who did no research into the imacs (technology loses value as time goes on).

I don't see why Apple can't discount the current imac and announce a date for the new version... this way people can think they are getting a good buy on a great machine with one year old tech. or wait and pay full price for the next great thing... I want the next great thing... and I am willing to pay top dollar for it now... I would not expect people to pay the same price a year from now on something that is new today...

I guess this is what happens when there is no "real" competition... If you want an Apple you only have one place to go, unlike if you want a pc.

I couldn't agree with you more! I am not going to pay top dollar for anything less than current technology. This will be my first Mac in over ten years, and it would be easy for me to stay in the PC world due to the lack of communication and over pricing of dated technology. I don't believe Apple is out to screw anyone, but they should do a better job of communicating with their customer base.

I have to agree on some accounts it would be nice if they release atleast a date to expect the new iMac. It has been a very considerable amount of time since the last update and it's getting a bit ridiculous.

but look at all the buzz they're generating. Let's face it, we're all talking about the new iMacs...when are they coming, what specs will they have, what will they look like etc etc. The anticipation is building every day.

I somewhat agree. However, I don't think we should be bashing Apple. I'm sure the delay and neglect is due to one of three things:

1. Apple's routine got interrupted by the iPhone. Since it took a few years and a lot of devs to make the iPhone, their Mac division got off-schedule.

2. Apple is planning something really good and it's taking a long time to make. :D

3. Apple is planning to change their product strategy and introduce all-new products. (Which would mean the iMac gets replaced)

Whatever it is, I don't think we will be dissapointed. :)

Yeah, they're really out to screw us...

Yup i got screwed really bad for buying into the 'hype'.. I bought an iMac G3 (almost dead) then a PM GE dual G4 and now an early '06 mini.. yeah as you see i got screwed by apple..

True but some people are spreading fudd without knowing that they are spreading the fudd

I work in a K-12 school district and my problem right now is if I should order the 12 iMacs, 10 minis I have in my budget, or do I wait for Aug 7? I'm afraid they'll drop the mini and the 17" (and thus the lower end model would have a higher price than I budgeted). I guess I better play it safe and order now.

NO NO NO NO DO NOT ORDER IT NOW. If they do drop the mini and the 17 inch you can always find those older models from 3rd part vendors. And the prices will be hundreds of dollars less knowing that the new models are out. You will save lots of money per system and you can buy more or have money left over.:)

Amen. I was traveling all day today so I was hoping that after a day of traveling i would get to my hotel room and see that the new iMacs where at least anounced.

Couldn't agree more. I have been waiting months as you have for the iMac and also categorically refuse to pay 2006 prices for 2006 technology. If there is no product or some sort of announcement by August 7th I'm buying another Dell... :(

Apple is too arrogant to update the iMac and Mac Mini before the end of the year.

Oh, and mark my words, you won't see a Mac Mini with a SR chipset until the middle of next year at least.

Top dollar for last year's technology... I like the ring of that!

Were building up to much anticipation, and then when the next Tuesday comes, we all want to kill ourselves.

A bunch of reasons that the iMac wasn't updated:

1. iPhone
2. iTunes
3. AppleTV
4. iPod
5. All the other iPods
6. iWork
7. Leopard
etc

Does Apple even do hardware anymore? Or is everyone over there too busy downloading Bono's new track on their iPhones?

I think 1 AND 2.

Also, in the earnings webcast product cycles or something were expected to reduce earnings in the upcoming quarter. That means iMacs, which means they'll not be with Leopard.

apple has never been a hardware company, they have always used other peoples things and have never made their own... they still do this 2day. i.e. using intel
