Sorry to be the person that writes something positive on MR message board, but Apple could have stopped at 18.1 and I'd be happy. I cannot overstate how much writing tools has changed my creative and professional life. I use it at least 30-40 times a day. It isn't perfect, but it usually gets me usually 85% of the way. My only complaint is it bleeds battery life. 18.2 sounds really cool and I think the eventual device awareness will help us use our devices better.

I know everyone hates Apple right now. I get it. But the staggered approach seems like reasonable strategy. Especially in terms of the iPhone 16 cycle. As each new feature drops, buyers may have a new incentive to take another look.

Ask Sam Altman or any of the other tech company that's rushed an AI product to market. Could (temporarily) lose your job.

Real kicker is that image playground works in airplane mode and is, as best I can tell, running locally. Silly app, amazing tech.

Actually after using Writing Tools on my Mac a bit today, I do have to admit it's kind of nice. The concise option helps me boil down long paragraphs of irrelevant information from my users down to the question they're actually asking. So far it's accurate and highly conservative. No noticeable battery hit on the Mac either.

Staggering the new Siri UI and the Siri/GPT integration is bad branding. A ton of people are gonna think they’re getting “new Siri” next week, and not realize it’s not coming until 18.2.

Yes

i switched to English Canadian and playground told me I needed to enable Apple Intelligence and the ChatGPT section within Apple Intelligence settings vanished until I set it back to US…. Rather disappointing

plus even the ChatGPT integration is underwhelming considering it doesn’t read out the response and if you ask it to a text just comes up saying text it doesn’t support text to speech
You need to set both Siri and your main OS language to the same thing. I set my Siri language to New Zealand English and then Siri was disabled and it said "Your device language and Siri language need to be the same to use Apple Intelligence" so I change my device language to match and viola.

ChatGPT integration is amazing!! So cool. I've played around with it a bit already and I am pretty impressed. Also if you go into the settings you can make it automatically use ChatGPT without needing to confirm each time. I'm still waiting for access to Image playground though.

All of this is so hard to find. They should add a dedicated "Apple Intelligence" menu in settings and not just make SOME parts of it part of the Siri menu. I am confident that 90% of my friends or family will not even be aware that those features exist.

Even I had to wait for this article to figure out how to access these new things like the Genmoji

Dare I say, they should copy Samsung:
It is a dedicated menu. It's called "Apple Intelligence & Siri" and it's right there when you open the settings app.

"the most exciting Apple Intelligence features"? ChatGPT, alright, I can get that, even if I don't personally agree with it, but I haven't heard any kind of excitement for genmoji, image playground, or image wand. I don't think it's exactly a killer feature that's going to draw all kinds of people to iPhone.
And you expected it to?! But it may keep people on the iPhone rather than jumping to other platforms that have had these feature for a long time now.
