my next question is obvious. JB has been around for a while, what is the preferred way, pawning...? or Blackrain. Do I need to make a choice or do I just look at the sticky for JB follow directions then when finished complete the tether guide. my FW is 3.02. Thanks for the info!

since your on a mac, i would use pwnagetool. goto dev-team blog site and d/l the PT and read up on how to use.

Use PwnageTool if you don't mind restoring / if your phone is unlocked using ultrasn0w and you want to keep it that way.

Use blackra1n if you already have 3.1.2 installed and don't want to loose anything. Blackra1n leaves your phone as is and just jailbreaks it.

BTW, I wrote up a tutorial for tethering on 3.1.2 a few days ago: http://appleguru.org/iPhoneTethering.html

Easy to follow, lots of pictures, and proper apns.

As long as its turned on in the phone and you connect to a computer with iTunes, the blue bar shows up. I'm running Windows 7 x64 with iTunes 9.0.1.8.
