What benefit does upping the AA give you?

When you look at the outline of anything on screen--the characters, the edge of buildings, and most conspicuously, cable lines--you'll since "jaggies," slight imperfections in the outline, so that a straight line isn't totally straight, a curve isn't perfectly curvy.

AA will smooth out those jaggies. It'll bring down frame rate a lot, but when your system can handle it, as it seems yours can, definitely go for it.

10.6.4 definitely addresses these poor performance issues.

I hope so. I've read varying opinions on 10.6.4's affect on gaming, here and at the Steam forums. The worst was that there's absolutely no affect.

So you've tried some games on 10.6.4? What I don't understand is that in having seen the briefs for each build, it merely mentions something like a focus on "graphics compatibility," but since some people say it has a positive affect on gaming, would that mean OpenGL is part of this "graphics compatibility"?

I got a list of stuff as long as my arm that isn't fixed in 10.6.4.

So if 10.6.4 is better, that's awesome, but just wait til the stuff on my list gets fixed too.

How can you see what version you're using?

And this 10.6.4, is that the developers-version that will be released to "normal users" soon or what?

I'm running the new MBP 13" and on the lowest settings its still quite laggy some times. :(

After 4 days with tf2 on my MBP 15 late 2008 9600 512mb i cant understand my graphics config. I used the same settings in different steam accounts and ad very different results... one of them completely unstable, the other very stable and above 30 fps. i tried to turn of or reduce some graphic config and a lost some fps... when a put them up again the fdp's rise... a can't understand this, it doesn't make any sense...

does any one knows when apple is going to make a big update?

cumps, sorry me english

anybody played under 10.6.4 yet? any differences? be great to hear others opinions :)

btw, are achievement_idle servers legal and do they actually work? I see them on my list and heard about some kind of ban implemented for people idling and waiting for items to drop.

It greatly affected my performance in a negative fashion. Sound is jumpy and fps went down.

In fact it has rendered my computer incapable of playing TF2. When before the update it was perfect.

downloaded 10.6.4 and now I can play TF2 at 1280x800 with everything low with about 25 fps, thats a 7fps improvement BUT now the CS:S Beta runs much worse. before I was able to play it at 1280x800 with everything low but model and textures at high with 45fps average, not it's down to about 30fps with all low but models and textures at medium.

wtf is up with these performance issues?

my fps increased after i put model em very high... try to put some settings in higher.... worked with me.

10.6.4 absolutely murdered my performance. Things were already mysteriously shaky before the update though, so I'm not sure if perhaps either an earlier TF2 update hurt my performance, or some caching issue. I hadn't touched a single setting (was running on very high perf defaults with silky smooth response for over a month since buying the game). Just a few weeks before 10.6.4 it started to become unplayable, even in local practice mode with a few bots.

After the update, it's an 'effin slide show---completely unplayable. I've tried setting the video settings down to 1996 levels with not an ounce of improvement, so I don't think it's anything there.

Really sucks. Valve needs to fix whatever the problem is.

Oh, and HL2 and all Episodes run just fine, with maxed out settings. So does Portal. It's just TF2 that blows giant, rotten chunks of half-digested Sandvich.

In case I missed it, can you please post your system specs, and can you qualify by "the update" do you mean the 10.6.4 update, or the subsequent "Snow Leopard Graphics Update", or one of the TF2 updates .
